Methodology Preface 1 CITY OF CORK VEC Preface This Quality Assurance document describes the policies and procedures that pertain in Services under the jurisdiction of the City of Cork VEC. These Services are the Further Education Service, the Adult Literacy and Community Education Service and the Youthreach and Senior Traveller Training Centre Service. The Policy statements presented are common across all three Services, with the individual Service procedures deriving from these statements being clearly identified throughout the document. The specific centres referred to and dealt with as part of the Further Education Service of the VEC are: • Cork College of Commerce • St John’s Central College • Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa • Terrence MacSwiney Community College • Nagle Community College • The Education Service, Cork Prison Statements within the document refer to all centres. Sections pertaining to this service are identified by Preface 2 CITY OF CORK VEC City of Cork VEC Adult Literacy and Community Education Service is delivered through locally based providers, co-ordinated through 10 networks throughout the city. The 9 Adult Literacy Schemes (ALS) are the main providers of certified modules in community settings. 7 of these schemes are geographically based while 2 have a citywide remit, 1 specifically for travellers. The Community Education service is largely focussed on uncertified courses. Providers engage with the FETAC accreditation process either through the local adult literacy scheme or through the VEC Community Education Facilitator. It focuses, in particular, on the need to ensure: • The provision of a quality teaching service • That each individual student is cared for and respected • That personal growth and development are fostered and encouraged The Management and Staff of the Centres are committed to ongoing interaction and dialogue with all stakeholders. Stakeholders include learners, staff, the Vocational Education Committee, employers and the general public. The City of Cork VEC, through its procedures will accommodate the following objectives: • Learner access to information and feedback • Staff access to information and feedback • Staff contribution to programme development • Public access to information on our programmes and courses • Liaison with employers concerning the commercial needs of the wider community that we seek to serve • The optimum the use of modem technology Above all, the VEC and the management of its Centres will foster an approach to Communications that fosters the twin skills of listening and dialogue.
