The winning EuroMillions numbers are randomly drawn. After every EuroMillions draw, the EuroMillions winning numbers are placed in numerical order as they appear on your ticket for your convenience.

How many numbers are used in EuroMillions?

Two (2) different ball sets are used in the EuroMillions draw. The first ball set contains 60 numbers, while the second has 12 numbers.

Five (5) numbers will be drawn from the first ball set during the EuroMillions draw, including two (2) Lucky Star numbers from the second set.

EuroMillions Historical Changes

On Friday, February 2004, the first EuroMillions draw took place in Paris. France, and the were the first participating countries, with , , Ireland, , and joining in October 2004.

A rollover cap was introduced in January 2006. It meant that the EuroMillions jackpot could roll over for 11 consecutive draws. If by the 12th draw, the jackpot was not won, it would then be rolled down and shared amongst the winners in the next prize tier.

The jackpot cap rule was changed in November 2009, and the EuroMillions jackpot cap was introduced. Initially, the cap was set at €185 million (approximately US $227 million), which was reached in July 2011. The rules stated that when the jackpot cap was reached, it would increase by €5 million (approximately US $6 million).

May 2001 saw the Tuesday EuroMillions draw being introduced, including a prize for matching two (2) main numbers. Another change that was implemented was increasing the Lucky Star ball pool from nine (9) to 11.

In February 2012, the EuroMillions jackpot cap was changed again. This time, the cap would not increase by €5 million each time it was reached but would remain set at €190 million (approximately US $233 million).

The EuroMillions lottery game matrix changed in September 2016 with the Lucky Stars ball pool increased from 11 to 12. Another change introduced was increasing the starting jackpots to €17 million (approximately US $21 million).

2020 saw the implementation of a host of changes, with the EuroMillions jackpot cap pushed to €200 million (approximately US $246 million). According to the new rules, when the jackpot cap is reached, it can remain fixed for a maximum of five (5) consecutive draws.

If there is no winner in the fifth (5th) draw, the jackpot will be rolled down and shared between players in the next winning prize tier. The EuroMillions jackpot cap will also increase by €10 million (approximately US $12 million) each time it is won in future, up to €250 million (approximately US $307 million) maximum.

In December 2020, the EuroMillions jackpot cap of €200 million (approximately US $246 million) was won. It meant that the first €10 million increase took place, and now the cap sits at €201 million (approximately US $258 million). Once this jackpot cap is reached and won, it will increase to €220 million (approximately US $270 million).
