Things have surely changed—all of our students have laptops, for example, and the campus is wireless. Our academic equipment and facilities have been dramati- cally expanded and upgraded. Specialized laboratories, smart classrooms and multimedia centers abound. On a more fundamental level, our faculty has never been stronger, our classes remain small, and our close-knit community still makes it easy to learn and grow. Students graduate with the insight and skills to be competitive in whatever professional environment they choose. Both my wife, Jeanne, and I earned degrees here, and I count myself among the thousands whose lives have been changed by this most extraordinary college community. The State College at Fitchburg diversified its pro- grams to include degrees in disciplines other than education. In 1965, its name was officially changed to Fitchburg State College. In July, 2010 the governor signed legislation renam- ing us Fitchburg State University. Today we offer more than 51 undergraduate degrees in 14 academic departments, offer- ing 25 majors, 32 master’s degree programs, six Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study programs, and nine graduate certificate programs. Enrollment is up to 3,500 full-time and 4,000 part-time students which include 1,300 matriculated graduate students. The campus has expanded from a single structure on High Street to 33 buildings on 90 acres, becom- ing the educational center for the Montachusett region. The University proudly offers traditional and non-traditional programs to serve the educational needs of its students as undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students. State College Mission Statement There are six comprehensive state universities—Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University—and three specialized colleges—Massachusetts College of Art, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Massachusetts Maritime Academy. All universities integrate liberal arts and sciences programs with professional education, and the three specialized colleges also focus on academic areas identified in History of the University the college’s name. Connell, Sr. 1939 – 2014 Thomas Connell moved to Westminster with his family in 1970. Tom was a Police Officer first serving in Westminster and Ashburnham starting in1973. He was an active community member serving on the Historical Commission, the Old Town Hall Needs Assessment Committee, and the Home Heating Assistance Committee. Tom was a US Army Veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church serving for years on the church council and Living Nativity Committee. Tom was active with the Boy Scouts as a youth, starting in 1949, and serving in multiple positions, including Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and Committee Chair for units in Westminster from 1973 through 2013. Edward “Rick” Haimila 1944 – 2014 Rick was a long time Westminster resident. He faithfully served his community by working for the Westminster Police Department for twenty years and will be fondly remembered and missed by many. Town of Westminster 2014 IN MEMORIAM Phyllis Henstridge 1919 – 2014 Phyllis was a descendant of one of Westminster’s earliest families. She was born and lived in Westminster all of her life where she served as Town Clerk from 1972 – 1984. As Town Clerk, she rarely missed a Town Meeting or a day at work. Phyllis was dedicated to serving the Town of Westminster throughout her life - a Girl Scout Leader, a 4-H Leader, a supporter of school activities, and always a ready car pool driver.

While radio’s largest markets grab most of the attention (and many of the ad dollars), new research from Nielsen shows radio reaches out and touches a large and qualified audience in medium and small markets as well. According to an edition of Nielsen’s Audio Today Report series focused on listeners in the 215 diary-measured markets, 65 million Americans aged 12+ use radio every week, accounting for more than a quarter of all listeners nationwide. The report shows the majority of consumers in these markets are connecting to radio and spending a lot of time listening. More than 86% of consumers in small and medium markets tune in during the week and spend more than 15 hours of their media time with radio. The Nielsen data also shows radio reaches across genders (with an even male-to-female split) and generations—86.8% of baby boomers (aged 50-74), 86.5% of millennials (12-34) and 89.9% of genXers (35-49) are reached by radio in medium and small cities each week. More than 60% of diary market listeners are in the advertiser-friendly 18-54 demographic. No cell has a larger concentration of listeners in these markets than persons 45- 54, accounting for 19% of the radio audience, followed by persons 55-64 and persons 65+ (17% apiece), persons 35-64 (16%) and persons 25-34 (15%). Persons 18-24 (11%) and teens (5%) represent the smallest slices of radio’s demographic pie in small and medium markets.
