HEAVY METAL 1. History Heavy metal was created around 1970s, it started in The United Kingdom, and it expanded all around the world. It descends from the rock music, blues rock and acid rock. At the first time there was only Heavy Metal, but other subgenres appeared quickly. The origin of the term "heavy metal" has been attributed to the phrase "heavy metal thunder," used in the Steppenwolf hit of 1968, "Born to Be Wild." Another possibility is when the term appeared earlier in William Burroughs' novel Nova Express (1964). 2.Main Characteristics Heavy metal is typically characterized by a distorted electric guitar is supported by the electric bass, powerful drumming, an often high and piercing vocal style, and sometimes electric organs or other keyboards. Certain genres have some quiet and mellow parts, but most metal is loud, intense, fast and aggressive. The main organization in the Heavy Metal bands was, one bass player, two guitar players, one vocalist and one drummer. This is a great expression of different opinions and taste of the people, because in the same genre there are big differences. It is characterized most typically by its fast tempo and aggression. It was promoted by the ’’Big Four’’ that are: Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax.
