Trebalo je malo vremena, nekoliko »umjetničkih« ispada i dosta teškog rada (tuđeg, ne mojeg), kako bismo ponovo pokrenuli The Regent Esplanade časopis, no smatrali smo da je važno da to napravimo kako bi se ‘naš glas ponovo čuo’. Trenutak je za nas idealan, jer ove godine slavimo još jednu veliku obljetnicu hotela Esplanade. Uz 85. godišnjicu hotela pripremili smo članak o povijesti Esplanade, primili smo dosta česti ti ki od naših uvaženih gosti ju i prijatelja, te iskoristi li priliku da zavirimo u knjigu gosti ju, kako bismo za vas izdvojili nama najdraže komentare poznati h i slavnih, koji su sve ovo vrijeme ovdje odsjedali. Naš je običaj da budemo diskretni, kada su u pitanju gosti , a naročito oni slavni, no za ovu prigodu morali smo napraviti malu iznimku, ali smo pri tome pazili da ne budemo indiskretni. Osim brojnih oglasa, za koje obećajem da će ih ubuduće biti manje, nadam se da će vam članci, koje smo za vas pri- premili, biti zanimljivi.     Raskošna povijest hotela Esplanade Od 1925. godine Esplanade Zagreb Hotel je najpoznatiji i najluksuzniji hotel u Zagrebu i regiji, a u travnju 2015. obilježio je okruglih 90 godina svojeg postojanja. Kako bi se zadovoljile potrebe grada uesplanade razvoju, izgradnja novog, luksuznog hotela nametnula se kao prioritet. Hotel je trebalo izgraditi na širokom terenu (španj. ), u neposrednoj blizini željezničkog kolodvora – tada jedine poveznice s Europom i ostatkom svijeta - koji je bio jedna od postaja slavnog Orient Expressa na relaciji Pariz-Venecija-Istanbul. Godine 1917. je raspisan međunarodni natječaj kojem su pristupili brojni izvrsni arhitekti toga vremena, uključujući slavnog Švicarca Adolfa Loosa koji, međutim, nije pobijedio na natječaju. Pobijedio je Nijemac Otto Rehnig, čije je izvorne nacrte preradio Dionis Sunko, kojega danas smatraju arhitektom ovog remek-djela arhitekture “Belle Époque”. Gradnja najvećeg hotela u Zagrebu je trajala samo 26 mjeseci. Na svečanom otvorenju, 22. travnja 1925., okupilo se oko 200 uvaženih uzvanika, među kojima i zagrebački gradonačelnik Heinzel. The hotel industry, hotels and hotel chains, as well as the features of the Croatian hotel industry from 2009 to 2017 are first defined. Next, the categories of catering establishments from the "hotels" category in the Republic of Croatia, reflecting the minimum technical conditions and structure of hotel deals from 2009 to 2017, are determined by means of examples of the five-star hotels in Zagreb.

Despite being one of Europe’s youngest capitals, Zagreb is one of the most fascinating and, as the city shakes off the cobwebs of communism and its history of nearly a millennium of foreign domination, it is rapidly emerging as one of the most underrated capitals of Europe. Loved by Orson Welles and often described as a “pocket-sized Vienna” or as a “fairytale capital”, the city features a unique blend of old and new.     HOTEL HISTORY At the beginning of the 20th Century, the two best – known inns of the time became too small for the increasing number of travellers arriving in Zagreb on the famous Orient Express train. As the recently opened Palace hotel, on Zrinjevac Square, could not satisfy the needs of a growing town, the building of a new luxurious hotel became a necessity. The hotel was to be built on a large field, near the railway station – at that time the only link with Europe and the rest of the world. In 1917 the international tender was opened, with participation of many outstanding architects of that time, including the famous Swiss Alfred Loos, who however did not win the contest. The winner was a German Otto Rhenig, whose original plans have been alternated by Croatian well known architect Dionis Sunko, who today is considered as architect of this masterpiece of belle epoque building. The name “Esplanade”, meaning “field” has been given to the Hotel. A TOUCH OF CLASS The building of the hotel was completed in only 26 months. Nearly 200 guests were at the gala opening on the 22nd of April 1925. Among the “distinguished guests were the district prefect, the Mayor of Zagreb Mr. Heinzel, consuls, bankers, journalists and many others in that beautiful hotel with a touch of class”. Newspapers wrote: “The hotel is worldly appointed, luxurious, sophisticated, extremely comfortable and equipped with the latest achievements in modern techniques. It reminds one of the famous international hotels. Private lounges for smoking, conversation, music and business meetings are there to meet all the needs of business travellers.
