TO BE USED WITH CIRCULARS ON COOKIES, CAKES, PIES, AND DRINKS, AND SCORE CARDS FOR COOKIES, CAKES, AND PIES.

1. Prepare the following: COOKIES-Five or more bak­ ings of drop, rolled, or pressed cookies. PIES-Five or more bakings of fruit pie or cream pie. CAKES-Five or more bakings of shortened , y e 11 ow sponge, or angel food. 2. Plan to bake foods that are part of your family's meals. 3. Practice good eating habits. 4. Keep a record of your activities.

FIRST ... Take stock of the kitchen. Where is the mixing area? The cooking area? The dishwashing area? Where are utensils, equipment, and supplies stored? How do you operate the stove and oven? NOW . . . Let's make drop and bar cookies. The circular on cookies has many recipes.

FIRST Get the stage set for baking-Are your supplies and equipment arranged for easy baking? Is your recipe in a con­ venient place to work?

Now that you know the general activities for baking, you are ready to check pastry pointers and directions for pies. These are given in your mimeographed circular on pies and pastries.

What ingredients should we select to make tender, flaky pastry? What fats should we use, and why? How should we handle the and fat? How much water should we use? How is pastry handled? At what temperature should we bake it?

Let's have fun today. Invite some friends for a taste of your best baking-cookies, cake, or pie, and serve a beverage with it. The circuJar, Drinks for the Family, gives you suggestions. Since your snack is sweet, choose a beverage that is less sweet, like milk, lemonade, or tea or coffee for grownups.
