List of Whole Rock and Metal Analysis Samples SUMMARY During ten days of July, 1989, a four man crew attempted to map the Urban Claims of Minnova Inc., located in Urban Township. The lower group of thirty claims was entirely covered on foot before the project had to be terminated due to budget restraints. Only six outcrops were located within these thirty claims and thus, little geological data was collected. The property is believed to possess a great deal of potential because of its location astride the northeast-trending Milner Shear which is the locus of six spectacular gold showings. This report deals only with the southern group of thirty claims. It is intended that the mapping of the northern claims will be completed during 1990. In addition, a geophysical compilation of the Urban claims and surrounding properties will be undertaken. Upon the completion of these two projects, an overburden or diamond drill proposal will be prepared. 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION This report describes the results of a 10 day mapping program which was carried out on the Urban Claims of Minnova Inc. The claims are located in Urban Township, in northwestern Quebec. The report is necessarily brief since only nine outcrops were located. 2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS The Urban group of claims is situated in the extreme west-central part of Urban Township approximately 100 kilometers south-southwest of Chapais and 100 kilometers east of Quevillon, in the province of Quebec (Figure 1). The Urban group is centered at 49 d. 06 min North Latitude and 75 d. 43 min W longitude, within NTS map area 32 G/4. Its position relative to the other Minnova projects within Urban and Barry Townships is shown on Figure 2. There are no roads into this area save for an old winter road from the Panache River to the west. The bridge over the Panache River, off Domtar road 463, no longer exists. Access to the property has been by float-equipped single Otter or Beaver, from Chibougamau to the Macho River, which takes approximately 40 minutes for a one-way flight. There are no lakes within the Urban Claims' boundaries. The 1989 mapping crew worked out of an old camp situated next to the Macho River. From here, access to the Urban claims was gained by a short canoe trip to the end of the river. This camp was serviced by single Otter and Beaver aircraft of Propair in Chibougamau. 3.0 PHYSIOGRAPHY The Urban claims lack any known outstanding physiographic features. The topography, as known, is flat, swampy and marked by clusters of thin spruce and tamarack. It was confirmed during the summer's mapping that outcrops are rare, suggesting that the overburden is probably deep in most places. Overburden depths encountered during the drilling of three holes in the north central part of the property were 15 ft., 63 ft., and 189 ft. (Fraser, 1986). There are no large lakes, near to, or on the property, save for Lac Windfall, just east of the northeast end of the group ( Figure 2 ). 2 Bal• James ~ MATAGAMI • CHIBOUGAMAU • TIMM INS PRaTEGT Lac St. Jean f~.4E~9 • NORANDA • VAL D'OR 0 50 100 150 200 Km Lo C.A Tio,v H~ P O F T-1/6- UR By,U - B,9 2FZy PRas r=/6URE / 3 URBAN CLAIMS Lac Wtndfa(( 4`4~c or. One hundred and thirty-eight claims form a staggered block, five claims deep, between the township boundary on the west and Lac Windfall on the east. From the south edge of this block, thirty claims, in a group four claims wide, extend to a point just east and south of the north end of the Macho River ( Figure 3 ). The Urban claims were initially staked for two reasons: A. To control the northern extension of the north-trending, mineralized Milner Shear which hosts numerous gold showings, known since the 1940's, and B. To control an east-west trending sediment/volcanic contact on both limbs of a major fold indicated, by magnetic surveys, regional geological maps, and a compilation of previous regional work. 5.0 PREVIOUS WORK The locus of past exploration relevant to the Urban Claim block was the area along both sides of the Macho River, immediately south of the Minnova Urban Group, within Urban Township ( Figure 4 ). In 1939, the region was mapped by R.L. Milner of the Quebec Department of mines on the Barry Lake Sheet. Milner reported on gold showings in an area which was underlain by basic and intermediate volcanics. These were caught up in an open anticlinal fold, the axis of which crossed the Macho River near its northern extremity. In addition to the folding, deformation was evident in shear zones which strike between 045 and 075. These are reflected in the lineation of topographic features such as lakes and rivers ( Milner, 1943 ). In 1947, 38 claims were staked for the Quebec Smelting and Refining Corporation which established a camp on the Macho River. By 1948, 2,155 feet of X-Ray drilling and 27,500 cu. ft. of trenching near the Panache River revealed massive andesites intruded by feldspar porphyry, younger diabase, and rare dykes of granite, presumed to originate in the Souart Stock to the southwest. Most important was the location and exposure of the strongly developed Milner Shear which trends 055 and is the host for numerous, irregular, narrow, quartz veinlets of limited length. These bear pyrite, chalcopyrite, and erratic gold values ranging from 0.14 to several ounces per ton. Immediately to the south, six gold showings were located in the same shear zone by Macho River Gold Mines. Work was suspended on both properties in 1949 due to the low price of gold.
