He first became involved in Eeyou Istchee in 2002 when he was invited by the Cree Nation of Oujé- Bougoumou to be a co-investigator in the study of the health impacts from former mining developments in their traditional territory. After that study, he agreed to carry out a community consultation to plan the NA study and has continued his active leadership throughout the years to ensure the successful completion of this report. Preliminary Report on Iserhoff River Area, Abitibi-East County PROVINCE of QUEBEC, CANADA
RP 197(A) Preliminary report on Iserhoff river area, Abitibi-East county PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA DEPARTMENT OF MINES GEOLOGICAL SURVEYS BRANCH PRELIMINARY REPORT ON ISERHOFF RIVER AREA ABITIBI-EAST COUNTY BY JACQUES CLAVEAU QUEBEC 1947 P. R. No. 197 ISERHOFF RIVER AREA ABITIBI - EAST COUNTY by Jacques Claveau INTRODUCTION Iserhoff River area, which was mapped dur- ing the summer of 1946, lies at some ninety miles north of the Canadian National Railway centre Af Senneterre. Comprising about 240 square miles, it is bounded by longitudes 77°00t and 76°451W., latitude 49°45'N., and a line four and a quarter miles south of, and parallel to, latitude 49°$0tN. Two canoe routes lead to the area. One fol- lows Bell river from Senneterre to Mattagami lake, Olga lake, and Goland lake in the northeast cor- ner of the map-area. The other is by way of Bell and Wedding rivers, Duplessis brook and O'Sullivan river to Waswanipi lake into which Iserhoff river flows, four miles east of the map-area. Aeroplane service, available from Senneterre, places the area well within one houris flying time and is greatly preferable to the river and lake routes which necessitate several days of arduous travel. Throughout the earlier half of the stammer, when waters are still fairly high, Iserhoff river can be ascended to within two miles from the west- ern border of the map-area, the operation involving - 2 - only ten small rapids through which fully loaded canoes can be easily waded. Imbault creel_ can be ascended to a point one and a half miles above its confluence with the Iserhoff, whence a portage of three miles and a quarter was cut by the party to give access to Imbault lake. -
The Geology and Petrology of a Portion of the Bell
TH 1772 THE GEOLOGY AND PETROLOGY OF A PORTION OF THE BELL RIVER COMPLEX IN BOURDAUX TOWNSHIP, QUEBEC THE GEOLOGY AND PETROLOGY OF A PORTION OF THE BELL RIVER COMPLEX ,IN BOURBAUX TOWNSHIP, QUEBEC A Thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the Degree of Master of Science at the University of Toronto, Q Randolph Walter Scott 1980 ABSTRACT ~ The Bell River Complex is a large layered gabbro intrusion of Archean age within the Abitibi orogenic belt. After intrusion into the Lac Watson and Wabassee volcanics it underwent regional greenschist metamorphism and was folded into an east-southeast trending anticline. Granitic and quartz dioritic plutonism separated the complex into eastern and western lobes and caused amphibolite grade meta- morphism of the eastern lobe. The Bell River Complex has an intrusive relation- ship with the lower part of the volcanic sequence. The presence of sill-like subsidiary intrusions of the com- plex in the upper volcanic sequence indicates that the complex acted as a differentiation chamber for these vol- canics. REE data for the upper volcanics do not eliminate this possibility, but the data could also reflect residual phases in a mantle source. The exposed part of the Bell River Complex is mainly a medium to coarse grained metagabbro with 60-80% plagioclase and 20-40% uralitized clino- pyroxene. A complete range of gabbros from pyroxen- ite to anorthosite is present along with minor dunite and peridotite. The western lobe of the complex can be divided into a felsic rich and magnetite poor lower zone about 10,000 ft. thick and an upper layered zone richer in mafics and magnetite that is about 15,000 ft. -

Fracture Analysis of a Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide-Related
©2007 Society of Economic Geologists, Inc. Economic Geology, v. 102, pp. 667–690 Fracture Analysis of a Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide-Related Hydrothermal Cracking Zone, Upper Bell River Complex, Matagami, Quebec: Application of Permeability Tensor Theory S. E. IOANNOU†,* AND E. T. C. SPOONER Department of Geology, University of Toronto, 22 Russell Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 3B1 Abstract Located in the Matagami mining district of the Abitibi greenstone belt, Quebec, the Bell River Complex is a >5-km-thick tholeiitic layered gabbro and/or anorthosite body (2724.6 +2.5/-1.9 MaU-Pb), which likely acted as the heat source that drove hydrothermal convection and volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) hydrothermal mineralization in the area. Abundant fractures and veins crosscutting the western lobe of the Bell River Complex formed over a range of temperatures from 250° to 700°C. The 250° to 400°C assemblage, quartz-epidote ± sericite ± chlorite ± pla- gioclase, is the most widespread and occurs as orthogonal, anastomosing, and random vein sets. Vein densities average between 15 and 25 veins per m2, locally reaching as high as 40 to 60 veins per m2. These veins, typi- cally 1 to 3 mm wide, are interpreted to represent thermal cracking associated with hydrothermal fluid miner- alization in the district. Furthermore, they crosscut earlier higher temperature pyroxene-plagioclase (>600°C) and magnetite-rich (300°–600°C) veins (1–10 mm wide; densities commonly ~0–5 veins per m2). Detailed field measurements of quartz-epidote vein geometries coupled with permeability tensor theory have produced a first-order approximation of the maximum model permeability structure (veins unfilled) of the hydrothermal cracking zone. -
