MUSIC PANEL Mark Calima, Houston, TX Mr. Mark Calima has completed 14 years of teaching and began his career as the Associate Band Director at Westfield High School in Houston, TX. During his time at Westfield, he assisted the band to achieving many accomplishments, including being named the 2003 Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Champion. Westfield H.S. Concert Bands, under his direction, were consistent Texas UIL Sweepstakes Award Winners as well as “Best in Class” at statewide festivals. In 2010, Mr. Calima opened Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, TX as the Director of Bands. Within a very short amount of time, the Cedar Ridge HS Marching Band became a consistent Bands of America Regional Finalist and Caption Winner, a UIL 6A State Marching Band Participant, as well as a BOA Grand National Finalist in 2013. Also in 2013, the Cedar Ridge HS Low Brass Choir was invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, in addition to the annual UIL Sweepstakes Awards given to the Cedar Ridge Concert Bands. In 2015, Mr. Calima returned to Westfield H.S. as the Director of Bands and has continued the rich traditions of musical excellence. The Westfield H.S. Percussion Ensemble performed at the 2015 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, which marked the second ensemble under Mr. Calima’s direction to perform at this recognized event. Mark Calima has been awarded the “Who’s Who Among America’s High School Teachers” and has been a campus “Teacher of the Year”. He is now an active clinician/ consultant across Texas and the country, in addition to adjudicating for UIL, (DCI), and BOA.

Gino Cipriani, Mechanicsburg, PA Mr. Gino Cipriani received his Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Education from the University of Mississippi and his Master of Science in Music Education from Towson University. Gino has served as a consultant to Marching Bands, Jazz Bands, Concert Bands as well as Drum and Bugle Corps across the United States, Japan, Thailand, England, Canada and Korea. In Korea, he had the pleasure of working with the Korean Armed Forces Bands in preparation of the World Cup Ceremonies in 2002. In addition, Gino serves as an adjudicator at marching band competitions throughout the United States. Gino spent ten years, 1990 through 1999, as a brass instructor for the 16- time World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2004, Gino held the brass caption head position for the six-time World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. From 2001 to 2004, he headed the brass section of the five-time DCA champion Syracuse Brigadiers. From 2007 to 2010 he took the position of Brass Caption Head for the DCA world champion Reading Buccaneers. Gino served as the Brass Caption Supervisor with The Cadets in 2000 and 2001, and from 2005 through 2016. During his time with the Cadets, he led the brass program to three DCI World Championship titles in 2000, 2005 and 2011. Currently, Gino works for Inspire Arts & Music as the Director of Music, which includes the role of Assistant Music Coordinator and Brass Caption Supervisor for the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. He also holds the position of Associate Band Director at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA.

Jeremy Earnhart , Bedford, TX Dr. Jeremy Earnhart is Director of Fine Arts for the Arlington, TX Independent School District. Educating 63,000 students, AISD provides world-class musical, visual, and kinesthetic arts programs. He was Director of Fine Arts for the Irving ISD from 2009-2013, and director of the state and national champion L.D. Bell High School Band serving from 1998-2009. His education includes a Bachelor of Music and a Master’s of Music Education from the University of North Texas, certifications in International Baccalaureate Music, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. Additional affiliations have included consultation for the 2011 & 2015 national champion Broken Arrow High School Band, and in design/instructional capacities for the Phantom Regiment and Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Page 1 of 5 Nola Jones, Nashville, TN Dr. Nola Jones is the Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Nashville, TN. Her duties include instructional supervision of 400 professional arts education specialists, curriculum planning and implementation. Prior to her appointment in Nashville, Dr. Jones served as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Before joining the UT Martin faculty, Dr. Jones served as Assistant Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Jones maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician for concert bands, marching bands, and honor ensembles in the United States and internationally in Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, and Singapore. Dr. Jones currently serves as Music Judge Liaison for Drum Corps International (DCI). Dr. Jones has judged numerous national championships for Bands of America (BOA), DCI, Drum Corps Japan, Winter Guard International (WGI), and WGI Percussion. Dr. Jones received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University, the Master of Music Education degree from Mississippi College, and the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of South Carolina.

Jodie Rhodes, Lubbock, TX Ms. Jodie Rhodes has been a band director for 24 years. She has spent the last nine years in Lubbock ISD teaching at Evans M.S. Prior to this, she spent 11 years in Spring ISD in Houston, Texas at Westfield High School, and its feeder programs. Ms. Rhodes is a graduate of Texas Tech University and received a Masters from Sam Houston State University. She has received numerous accolades for both concert and marching band festivals and is a member of TMEA, TBA and Midwest. Ms. Rhodes is an adjudicator and consultant with numerous marching and concert bands across the country.

Rick Rodriguez, Round Rock, TX Mr. Rick Rodriguez is from McAllen, TX and grew up in the Rio Grande. Rick was a member Blue Devils snare line under Tom Float and Scott Johnson and eventually earns a degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas under Dr. Schietroma. Mr Rodriguez now has over 30 years of percussion and band teaching and masterclass experience. Mr. Rick Rodriguez is currently the percussion director and Associate band director at Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, TX. Rick has been the director of the 3rd and 4th UIL concert bands at Cedar Ridge. He now assists the Cedar Ridge Concert Bands and Wind Ensemble, and is the primary director of the Cedar Ridge Jazz Ensemble and the Cedar Ridge percussion program. Since the early 90’s, Mr. Rodriguez and his percussion ensembles have been fortunate to have several appearances at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic held annually in Chicago, IL. Rick’s latest Cedar Ridge Percussion Ensemble had also performed at the Midwest Clinic and TMEA San Antonio alongside with the Cedar Ridge Low Brass Choir. Mr. Rod is also a busy and active percussion arranger and versatile clinician. In his younger days, Rick was the “center snare” of the infamous University of North TX PASIC Drum Line and was attending the University of North Texas under Dr. Robert Schietroma. Rick was also a snare drummer for the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as the Concord Blue Devils. In his past Rick has been on the working staff of the Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, Blue Knights, and is currently on percussion staff of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also been on the adjudicating staff of Drum Corps International (DCI), and the Winter Guard International (WGI) percussion judging panel still to date. Mr. Rodriguez is currently endorsed by the Zildjian.

Jeremy Spicer, Georgetown, TX Mr. Jeremy Spicer, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Texas State University is the owner of SASI – The Leadership People, LLC., a student leadership consulting firm focusing on in the empowerment of young leaders. Mr. Spicer is instrumental in the development and presentation of this concept to thousands of students across the nation. Mr. Spicer is the former Director of Bands at Vandegrift High School. The marching band was named the 2013 UIL 4A State Marching Band Champion. Additionally, the marching band was a consistent Class Champion (Class A, AA, and AAA) and Finalist in Bands of America (BOA) Regional Competitions. Prior to his appointment at Vandegrift, Mr. Spicer spent eight years as a member of the staff at Cedar Park High School. While at Cedar Park, he served as the Conductor of the Symphonic Winds and the Director of both the Marching and Jazz Ensembles. During his tenure, the marching band won numerous marching contests and was a consistent finalist at both the UIL State Marching Contest and BOA Regional and Super-Regional competitions. The marching band is the 2006 recipient of the Sudler Shield, an international award for marching excellence awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Mr. Spicer has also been very active in Drum Corps International (DCI). He has been on the brass staffs of the Carolina Page 2 of 5 Crown (2000), Southwind (2001), Boston Crusaders (2002), and Santa Clara Vanguard (2003 and 2006). He has served in various capacities ranging from Brass Instructor to Assistant Brass Caption Head. Mr. Spicer is active in the United States as a clinician and adjudicator for BOA. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Ken Turner, Apalachin, NY Mr. Ken Turner has an extensive history in the field of music education and pageantry. During his career as an educator he served as a band director, supervisor of music, clinician, musical arranger, program coordinator, consultant, adjudicator, and guest conductor. His high school concert band, jazz ensembles, and marching bands have won numerous local, state, and national honors. Ken has also served as the Music and Brass Caption Chairman for Drum Corps Associates (DCA), the New York Federation of Contest Judges (NYFCJ), Drum Corps East (DCE), and Drum Corps International (DCI), as well as Judge Administrator for the New York Field Band Conference and as Chief Judge and Judge Administrator for DCI. He has been a member of the DCI Task Force, the Drum Corps Strategic Planning Committee, and the DCI Rules Committee; and has served as a clinician and adjudicator at numerous state, national, and international musical events in North America, Europe, and Japan. Ken served as Director of Music for the Johnson City Central School District in Johnson City, New York, which was honored on six occasions by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences as a GRAMMY Signature School, and was also recognized as one of the Best Communities in America for Music Education by NAMM. He served for four years as a member of the National Advisory Board for the Partners in Education Program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and received special recognition from the Kennedy Center for his contribution to the program.

VISUAL PANEL William Chumley, Littleton, CO As a marching member, instructor, consultant, judge, and color guard director, Mr. William Chumley has committed over 35 years to the pageantry arts, where his various roles have included: serving on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association for 21 years; judging worldwide for Drum Corps United Kingdom, Drum Corps Japan, Color Guard Netherlands, Winter Guard International, Bands of America (BOA), and Drum Corps International (DCI) for 25 years; and training, mentoring, and scheduling judges for 25 years. William Chumley is the Design Analysis and General Effect Caption Manager for Winter Guard International (WGI); he is a sought after clinician and judge around the world; and he balances his pageantry judging with his daily work as Chief Customer Officer for the Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology.

Curtis Costanza, Vancouver, WA Mr. Curtis Costanza is a middle school teacher in Vancouver, WA. He has extensive judging experience with Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), Bands of America (BOA), Winter Guard Association of Southern California, Florida Federation Color Guard Circuit, and is the current chief judge administrator for WGI and the Northwest Association for Performing Arts. His pageantry experience includes consultant, designer, and instructor for various high school marching bands and color guards throughout the country for the past 31 years. Curtis has been a clinician for Northwest Pageantry Association, Western Carolina University, North Texas Color Guard Circuit, Gulf Coast Color Guard Circuit, Southeast Color Guard Circuit, Florida Federation Color Guard Circuit, Northwest Marching Band Circuit, Colorado Band Masters Association, Winter Guard Association of Southern California, Drum Corps Japan, and BOA

Marie Czapinski, Des Plaines, IL Ms. Marie Grana Czapinski is an expert in the field of pageantry and the only one to hold Hall of Fame membership in all three elite marching arts organizations: Winter Guard International (WGI), Drum Corps International (DCI), and Bands of America (BOA). Marie is a co-founder of WGI, and she played a key role in the formation and development of BOA and was DCI Visual Caption Coordinator for many years. She continues to adjudicate for all three organizations, as well as independent competitions around the world. Marie has instructed numerous championship winter guards, drum corps, and marching bands including several BOA Grand National Champions. She is well known for her clinic presentations, integrity, and creativity. She is an active clinician and consultant for many marching bands. She is currently the Director of Education of the Midwest Color Guard Circuit, a BOA Clinician, a Conn-Selmer Clinician, and a Visual Consultant to the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. Page 3 of 5 Jackie Gilley, Midwest City, OK Ms. Jackie Gilley is a native of Stratford, Texas, and was the band director at Monroney Middle School in Midwest City, Oklahoma, for 29 years. She also taught color guard at Midwest City H.S. for 18 years. Her first job was in Miami, Texas., teaching art, band, and yearbook. Jackie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Ceramics and her Masters of Music Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She is also accredited in Secondary Education Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. Ms. Gilley earned accreditation in 2002 as a “National Certified Teacher” in Instrumental Music, and she was also “Monroney Teacher of the Year” in 1992 and 2003. In 2012 Jackie was inducted into the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame. In 2014 she was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OKMEA) Hall of Fame and was also named “Exemplary Teacher” by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association. Jackie is past president of the Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and serves on the Earl D. Irons Program of Distinction selection committee. She is also a member of OMEA, OBA, NAfME, and WIBDA. Ms. Gilley is well-known as an adjudicator throughout the United States. She has been an adjudicator for Winter Guard International (WGI), Drum Corps International (DCI), Bands of America (BOA)/Music for All, the Texas Color Guard Judges Association, and Oklahoma Music Adjudicators Association. She has judged numerous state marching band championships and concert band festivals. She also serves as a mentor for Marching Roundtable Judges Academy. Jackie is president of the Stratford Education Foundation board in her hometown of Stratford, Texas.

John Howell, North Huntingdon, PA Mr. John Howell resides in North Huntingdon, PA just outside of Pittsburgh. He is currently employed as a Business Education Teacher in the Hempfield Area School District, where he serves as the Department Chairperson and teaches Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Web Page Design, and Video Game Programming. John holds a Bachelor of Administration in Business Management and an Accounting minor from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a visual designer, and has taught and written shows for various nationally acclaimed marching bands, drum and bugle corps and indoor winter color guards. He continues to conduct clinics and consultations for bands, winter color guards, and judging associations across the United States. He has been a visual adjudicator over 28 years and judges for Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), and various other judging associations. He has had the opportunity to judge internationally on numerous occasions. He also conducts both the Trinity Handbell and Hand Chime choirs at his church, in which he has performed for over 38 years.

Bruce Jones, Fleming Island, FL Mr. Bruce Jones is currently living in Fleming Island, Florida. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in education, Mr. Jones has been involved in the pageantry arts for 35 years. His experience includes being a performer, designer, instructor, and consultant for many national programs in drum and bugle corps, marching bands and winter color guard, many of which have been finalists in Drum Corps International (DCI), Drum Corps Associates, Bands of America (BOA), and Winter Guard International (WGI) as well as state champions and state finalists. He has also been involved as a clinician at many national marching band and color guard workshops throughout the United States. Bruce’s judging background spans 25 years in which he has been involved in judging local, regional, and international events. He has adjudicated in such prestigious events as DCI Championships, Drum Corps Japan Championships, Drum Corps Europe Championships, Drum Corps Indonesia, and BOA along with numerous state and regional marching band, color guard, and percussion competitions across the United States.

CHIEF JUDGE Gary Markham, Dallas, GA Mr. Gary Markham is recently retired Supervisor of Instrumental Music for the Cobb County School District in Marietta, GA. He is the former Director of Bands at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax County, VA. He has over four decades of experience in music education, with 25 years as a high school band director and 20 years as a music supervisor. He currently serves internationally as clinician, guest conductor, adjudicator, and consultant. The Cobb County Music program has been named one of the “BEST Communities for Music Education in America, 12 times. Mr. Markham received his B. S. degree from Mansfield State University, M. Ed. degree from Penn State University, and studied for Ph. D. (ABD) in conducting and music supervision at George Mason University with Tony Maiello and Arnald Gabriel. His leadership experience includes membership on several state and national music

He is currently the Senior Education Consultant and Chief Judge for Bands of America (BOA), Executive Director of the Music Administration Collaborative, and Judge Education Director for Drum Corps International (DCI). He is a 1992 recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation's "Sudler Order of Merit" and the Robinson Symphonic Band is the 1992 recipient of the "Sudler Flag of Honor.” In 2006, Mr. Markham was presented with the Georgia Music Educators Administrative Leadership award and was inducted into the BOA “Hall of Fame.” In 2007, Mr. Markham received the DCI & Coltrin & Associates “Excellence in Music Education Award.” In 2009, NAfME presented the first “Excellence in Marching Music Education” to Mr. Markham for serving as chairman of the Blue Ribbon Commission for writing National Standards and a lifetime devoted to marching music excellence.
