An Afternoon with Michele Hill “Come and join me as we take a visual journey to the UK right here in New Zealand from the comfort of your own seat. Let me share my 20-year passion of William Morris and his daughter May as we travel through Oxford, London and the charming English countryside that he so loved. We will also travel to Iceland where we discover the roots of this complex and creative man who was also a dreamer and a romantic. Morris was ahead of his time in matters of social consciousness and environment and some of it even led him to being arrested, but how lucky we are that he has left us his legacy of timeless patterns.”

Presented by Four X Four, an exhibition of textile art will be on display with the collages which were used as the original design concepts. This new exhibition, Collage to Stitch, is the work of four South Australian textile artists and is the culmination of one years’ exploration of collage as a tool for developing ideas, originating from a workshop with textile artist Carolyn Sullivan. The themes chosen and the approaches taken reflect personal passions and generally revolve around nature. Flowers, trees and gardens were frequent topics for reflection by artists Maxine Fry, Ruth Galpin, Suzanne Gummow and Sandra Obst.

See the collages and the developing textile designs along with the final textile artworks. Meet Maxine Fry at the show. Three Steps To Textile Art

August 31 - September 2, 2017 5 Aussie Bush Project Textile Artist Dijanne Cevaal Textile artist Dijanne Cevaal has conducted two international projects in recent years, The Sentinelles and The Medieval Project; she designed and printed hand dyed lino-cut prints which textile artists embellished with stitch. Both were so well received and resulted in exciting visual exhibitions that she has embarked on a new theme: The Aussie Bush Project.

The latest project will be displayed at the fair. Panels feature four different Australian bush themes which have been embellished and embroidered by stitchers around the country. The themes are Gumnuts and Gum Leaves; Banksia Cones and Flowers; Unfurling Fern Frond and Blackwoods Dancing. Meet Dijanne at the fair and enjoy her demonstrations of lino cutting and printing.

Coastal QuiltersCoastal is based in the Porirua Quilters – Mana area. Exhibition Members come from throughout the Wellington-Porirua- Kapiti area. The exhibition at the fair will include a range of quilts made by members – from people who have been quilting for years, to people who are just starting out. Members, from the least experienced quilters to the most experienced, will be contributing to the display. It is a representative sample of the work that members are doing, not just the most ‘expert’ – proof that all can enjoy quilting and produce work worthy of being displayed! There will also be a Challenge. Members were asked to make a small quilt based on the theme ‘Scrap’. Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite quilts, and the quilts with the most votes will win prizes. Make sure you buy a ticket in the raffle – two quilts are being raffled, with proceeds going to St John and Wellington Free Ambulance.
