Taylor Community 2018 Music Series Vintage Vocal Quartet Sunday, November 4 at 3:00pm The 1930’s and 1940’s were the sweet spot when swing music, jazz music, and pop music were all one and the same. It was a time when every radio blared out music that was danceable yet sophisticated. The Vintage Vocal Quar- tet’s “Swinging Harmonies” show dials in the sound of Glenn Miller’s Modernaires, the Nat King Cole Trio, the Andrews Sisters, and Tom- my Dorsey’s Pied Pipers, as well as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzger- ald, and Jo Stafford. These four vocalists double on piano, bass, guitar and trumpet, so you’ll hear the full, rich style of the big band era in a tight little package. Songs include Stardust (Pied Pipers with Frank Sinatra), New Hampshire is the Undecided (Delta Rhythm Boys), Don’t Fence Me In (Andrews Sisters with Bing Crosby), Walking My Baby Place to Be! Back Home (Nat King Cole), Their Hearts Were Full of Tammy Levesque’s Outdoor Spring (Four Freshmen) and Don’t Sit Under the Apple Adventure Social Club (OASC) Tree (Glenn Miller’s Modernaires). finished their season in a big way, hiking Straightback Generously supported by Bank of New Hampshire, Taylor Mountain and Mount Major both on the same day. Join the Boys & Girls Club of the Lakes Region for a Special Event! Scam Alert Scams really aren’t funny, but this one brought a snicker... A resident got a call from a “gentleman” at “Publisher’s Clearinghouse.” He added to his credibility by asking for her by name. Opportunity & Entertainment The conversation went something like this: “Do you remember signing some forms a few months Monday, November 5 ago?” 4:00 — 6:30pm, Woodside “No, I don’t.” Enjoy complimentary refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and "Well, you did, and I'm calling to tell you that you have entertainment by world-renowned crooner Tony Martelli won 4.5 million dollars and a new car!" (etc.) “What do while learning how the Boys & Girls Club has impacted you have for a car presently?” (fishing for information) the lives of local children. “You do have a car, don’t you?” This event is free and open to the public. Reservations “No, I don’t.” are requested by Friday, October 26 to Brenda Kean, at 366-1226 or [email protected]. (phone line goes dead, resident snickers...) Wise words from the resident: “Since I've heard nothing further, and stopped snickering, I feel sure this was a scam. If these people put half as much effort into legitimate jobs, they would be wealthy.“

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it’s most likely a SCAM!!!

The men and women she now considers family share one thing in common: a loved one buried at Henri Chapelle Cemetery in Hamburg, Belgium. By the end of the war, it was the largest temporary American cemetery in Europe. Many of the 17,000 soldiers have been returned to the United States for burial, but nearly 8,000 remain. Fogg, who lives in Gilford, has collected stories and photos about the 40 New Hampshire men and the 24 from Vermont buried at Henri- Chapelle and published them in a pair of books. Thursday – November 15 – Foreign Film Series: The Seventh Seal, by Ingmar Bergman – A 1957 Swedish histori- cal fantasy film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman set in Denmark during the Black Death, it tells of the journey of a medieval knight and a game of chess he plays with the personification of Death, who has come to take his life. Bergman developed the film from his own play Wood Painting. The title refers to a passage from the Book of Revelation, used both at the very start of the film, and again towards the end, beginning with the words "And when the Lamb had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour." Here the motif of silence refers to the "silence of God," which is a major theme of the film. The Seventh Seal is considered a classic of world cinema and as one of the greatest movies of all time. This event will be held in the Woodside Theater beginning at 2:00PM.

They raised $2,100 and collected a number of items to be donated to the "Citizen Santa Fund." WLNH worked tirelessly to grow this event into a multi-day radio auction over the next fifteen years. Through the generosity of several different landlords the Auction found a home each year in store fronts throughout Downtown Laconia. Under WLNH's direction, multitudes of people became involved in this event and the "Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction" took on a life of its own. An alternative to West Coast-grown greens, and a smarter choice that not only lets you buy local, it gives you a more delicious, cleaner and more environmentally sound option. That’s lēf Farms. And they’re right in our neighborhood. Come learn more about these local, hydroponically grown greens. This lecture will be take place at Woodside at 2:00PM. Toy theatre is a form of miniature theater that enjoyed great popularity as a parlor entertainment in Victorian times. Toy theaters were printed on paperboard sheets and sold as kits at the concession stand of an opera house, playhouse, or vaudeville theater and were assembled at home and performed for friends and family members. The nostalgic charm of this traditional form is sure to put you in the holiday spirit! This event will be take place at Woodside at 6:30PM.
