An Introduction to the U.A.E.
Q1: Read the passage carefully then answer the questions that follow. UAE is the short form for the United Arab Emirates. It came into being on 2nd December 1971 and it consists of seven emirates namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Quwain, Fujaira and Ras Al Khaimah. H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the president of the UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bi Rashid Al Maktoum is the vice president and the Prime minister of the UAE.
UAE is inside the big continent named Asia, covering an area of approximately 80,000sq. km. along the coast of the Arabian Gulf from the borders Qatar and Saudi Arabian to the Musandam Peninsula just south of the Strait of Hormuz. Its immediate neighbouring countries are the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabian and Kuwait.
United Arab Emirates has been rightly selected for this country as it is a Federation of seven emirates, namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujaira. The first six emirates are on the western coast of the country while only Fujairah the seventh one is the only emirate that lies on the eastern coast.
