American Leadership Academy Code Guidelines Updated 06/21/18 The American Leadership Academy is incorporated in our school for many reasons and research shows: • Encourages a sense of belonging and pride. • Discourages bullying and victimization. • Reduces social pressure and peer conflicts. • Encourages students to concentrate more on their studies than on their . • Reduces the prevalence of certain behaviors which are often express through wardrobe such as violence and promiscuity.

ALA Dress Code: Colors are solid in color. No other colors can be worn with patterns unless specified. Textures in material are permitted as long as they are the same color as the article of . No logos are allowed except for authorized school logo. All clothing must be modest, clean, appropriately sized and worn right side out. No torn, frayed or ripped clothing. Clothing may not display skulls, drug/alcohol or gang related pictures or references. Anything that is in question will be determined by administration.

Collared , , or : Long, 3/4, or short sleeved, must button up, must have a collar. Must be solid in color, no see through material. must be buttoned to a modest level. Shirts may not have logos other than authorized school logos.

Sweater Vest or : Crew or V-neck, solid in color, flat or cable-knit, no logo other than school authorized logo, must have a dress code shirt underneath.

Knit : Crew or V-neck, solid in color, flat or cable-knit, button or zipper front, no logo other than authorized school logo, must have a dress code shirt underneath.

Jackets & : Long sleeved, button or zipper front, pullover, or , no logo other than school authorized logo, all , coats, pullovers and must be solid in color and worn with a dress code shirt underneath.

Pants, Capris or : Must be solid in color and not faded. No , no , no , no drawstring closures, boys pants must have loops. Shorts must be no shorter than 1 inch above the kneecap. or leggings are not to be worn in place of pants.

Skirts: Pleated, straight, or A-line and must be to the knee or longer. Must be worn in “bottom colors”. No , no lace, no leather. No slit above knee level. Solid tan, white, navy or black leggings may be worn underneath.

Jumper: Any style and must be to the knee or longer. No denim, lace or leather and must be worn with a dress code shirt underneath

Dresses/: Girls may wear a dress in ALA dress code colors. It must have buttons and a collar or be worn with a dress code shirt underneath. It must be to the knee or longer. No slit above the knee level. Solid tan, white, navy, or black leggings may be worn underneath. Full suits must be solid in color and may be worn in grey, black, navy or tan.

Socks: Must be matching.

Belts: Belts are not required but preferred. If a student chooses not to wear a belt, pant must sit in proper position on the waist. : Must be matching. No flip flops, no slides, no characters, no lights, no wheels. must have a back/heel strap on them. No , duct tape, holes, or graft tape.

Jewelry/Tattoos: Should be conservative in style. Girls may wear one pair of . Boys may not wear earrings. No pierced jewelry in other body parts. No tattoos showing at any time while on campus including extracurricular activities. Excessive drawing on the skin will be considered a tattoo.

Ties or : Ties are not required. May be worn with approved dress code collared shirt. Must be conservative and may not display logos or characters. May be solid or pattern in dress code colors

Backpacks: May not display skulls, drug/alcohol or gang related pictures or references

Hats, Bandanas, , and Beanies: Not allowed at any time.

Hair: Hair must be kept neat, groomed and clean cut. No extreme hair styles or unnatural hair colors. Boy’s hair must be out of their eyes, off their collar and not below their ears. may be worn if not distracting, and must be solid in school colors with no logos. No shaven symbols or designs are allowed in hair styles. Boys face must be clean shaven.

Make-up: Must be appropriate for school. Boys are not allowed to wear make-up.

PE/Dance class/Teams: Any student participating in these classes must purchase an approved school for that particular class.

Dress Code for Dances: All clothing must be modest. must go to the knee and have at least a 2 inch strap on shoulder. Must not show excessive cleavage or be cut below the strap in the back. Students may be asked to leave the dance if clothing is considered inappropriate by the chaperones.

Spirit Day Guidelines: You may wear a red, white or blue dress code shirt, spirit shirt or ALA issued shirt in dress code colors. You may wear jeans. No sweats or basketball shorts. You may wear an ALA -teachers discretion within classroom. No skin showing above the knee.

Dress Down Day Guidelines: You must be in modest clothes, with no offensive or gang references. Administrations discretion. No skin showing above the knee.

Dress Code Discipline: Violation 1 = Write up, parents contacted, dress code fixed before returning to class. Violation 2 = Write up, parents contacted, dress code fixed before returning to class. Violation 3 = Write up, parents contacted, dress code fixed before returning to class. Violation 4 = Write up, parents contacted, dress code fixed before returning to class. Violation 5 = Write up, parents contacted, dress code fixed before returning to class. Meet with Administration to discuss next step, categorized as a major offense, under Willful Disobedience.

Willful Disobedience: First Offense – Up to 5 Day Suspension (with referral to authorities if warranted) Second Offense – Up to 10 Day Suspension (with referral to authorities if warranted) Third Offense – Suspended until board meeting for Expulsion Hearing (with referral to authorities if warranted)

Continued Willful disobedience to dress code may result in losing your priority status for re-enrollment. Parents and student please be aware that if they come out of dress code and don’t have a way to fix it immediately you will be provided a to wear the remainder of the day, but will still receive a “write up” for coming to school out of dress code.
