DESIGN AND ADVOCACY

Chicago Loop Alliance reviews projects and advocates for Loop issues like transportation, public space, and opportunities for business and investment.

The Design and Advocacy Committee reviewed nine design and signage packages and held discussions on everything from small vehicle mobility to downtown sites for a Chicago casino. Other topics covered include the revocation of Aldermanic Privilege, high rise signage, and Chicago Transit Authority bus stop sign replacement. This work ensures the maintenance of the Loop aesthetic and provides opportunities for Loop stakeholders’ voices to be heard during important policy conversations. One important new project that kicked off in 2019 is the State Street Corridor Plan, which will include recommendations on the street’s design aesthetic, use of public space, transportation and mobility, business mix, and technology. To create the plan, Chicago Loop Alliance contracted site design group, ltd., an urban design and architecture firm. This will be Chicago Loop Alliance’s first plan for State Street since 1987, and it will be released in fall 2020. In addition to hyper-local advocacy work, Chicago Loop Alliance also takes its expertise around the country and the world through conferences, speaking on issues of homelessness, safety, placemaking, and the impact of art and culture. 9 | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT 22 recommendations made in Chicago Loop Cultural Mile Action Alliance’s 2019 in March Plan, released 9 design and signage by packages reviewed the Design and Advocacy Committee in State Street’s 40 properties SSA #1-2015 IMPACT U.S. by #1 Big City in the for the Conde Nast Traveler in a row year third 3 national and international attended conferences 10 Chicago thought leaders engaged to present Downtown on urban issues at Series Futures 10 | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT
