Tiruchirappalli or Trichy is centrally located in Tamil Nadu with excellent road, rail and international air connectivity. It is 330 kms south‐west of Chennai and around 340 kms south‐east of Bengaluru. The river Cauveri flows through the city.
History
Uraiyur, the capital city of the early Cholas, is a part of Trichy. The place was an important town during the times of early Cholas (1st Century CE), Pandyas, Pallavas, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayaks and the British. It also played an important role during the Carnatic wars. The oldest man‐made dam Kallanai, built by Karaikala Cholan, is located in Trichy across the river Cauveri.
Industry The Rock Fort Temple , Tiruchirappalli Tiruchirappalli is an important industrial and educational hub of central Tamil Nadu. Trichy also boasts of a good presence of manufacturing / fabrication industries. Good business environment and availability of IT talent pool is another important attribute of Trichy. Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli, Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Golden Rock Railway Workshop are located in Tiruchirappalli.
Education
Trichy is a key education centre of Tamil Nadu with a number of Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Arts & Science Colleges and Schools. Apart from the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIMT), the National Institute of Technology, Bharathidasan University, Anna University, Tamil Nadu National Law School and Indian Institute of Information Technology have their campuses in Trichy.
Connectivity

The eleventh IIM, Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM Tiruchirappalli) was established by the then Hon’ble Minister for HRD and Telecommunication, by laying the foundation stone on January 4, 2011.
The iconic IIM brand is a hallmark of excellence and a benchmark of quality that IIMT constantly aims to achieve and uphold. The institute strives to carve its own identity while developing competent managers of tomorrow. This effort is showcased in our flagship programme, Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), which endeavors to create champions of excellence for the industry and society at large.
IIM Tiruchirappalli is strongly governed by its motto: “Gyanam Anantham” (Knowledge is endless). It aspires to instill in its students an unceasing desire to learn, because of its fundamental belief that continuous learning is the foundation for better value creation. The institute proudly takes on the responsibility of shaping the students into leaders of tomorrow who would be the catalysts of change for the betterment of society.
About the Logo
This logo is born out of the idea of ‘Celebration of Learning’. It takes the shape of a human form with out‐ stretched arms signaling the spirit of achievement and fulfillment. The freshness of Orange captures the vibrancy of the Institutes culture. The subtle shape of the Blue between the arms also indicates a flame ‐ a traditionally recognized symbol of education. The logo design combines tradition with a contemporary touch. IIM Trichy as the base unit forms the foundation for that learning and growth.

IIM Trichy commenced its academic journey in June 2011 with 84 students in the first year of its Post Graduate Programme (PGP). IIM Tiruchirappalli is governed by professional members who are some of the most reputed and distinguished personalities in their own fields like finance, law, education, entrepreneurship, advertising, etc. IIM Trichy offered three academic programmes till March 2017:
Post Graduate Programme in Management
Post Graduate Programme in Business Management
Fellow Programme in Management Post Graduate Programme (PGP) is the flagship programme of the institute. 178 students from all over the country enrolled for this programme in the year 2016. During the period, a total of 286 students were on the rolls of IIM Trichy across all the courses. The PGPBM, the 3-year executive programme for working executives was launched in August 2012. Forty students were admitted to the programme during the year.
During the year 2016-17, seven students joined the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) of IIM Trichy. The candidates were selected through a rigorous selection process. Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Trichy The fifth annual convocation of IIM Trichy was held on 18th March 2017 at Barn Hall, NIT Trichy Campus. It was a proud moment for all the IIMTians. Shri D Shivakumar, Chairman & CEO, Pepsico India Holdings Pvt. Ltd and Shri Shivendu Nadkarni, Vice President, Asia Pacific/Africa Snacks, Kellogg’s delivered the Convocation Address as the Guests of Honour. During the convocation, 110 students were awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Management and 33 students from Post Graduate Programme in Business Management were graduated this year. I am glad to report that IIM Trichy has constituted eleven gold medals which were awarded to the meritorious students of the batch by the Chief Guest and the Chairman, Board of Governors during the convocation. HDFC Bank and Punjab National Bank sponsored two of gold medals, Canara Bank and Kotak Securities sponsored one gold medal each for the meritorious students.
During the year, 7 students of IIM Trichy went on a student exchange program to foreign universities like IAE Aix-Marseille Graduate School of Management, France, ESSCA – Budapest Campus, Hungary and EMLYON Business School, France for 3 months.
In this journey of professional and academic excellence, we have designed a student team project called ‘Make a difference’ (MAD). The main objective of MAD is to sensitize our students about the social issues in our society. Under the MAD project, all the students of PGP would work in teams on an issue of social importance.
Centre for Corporate Governance at IIM Tiruchirappalli was launched in June 2014 for promoting research in the area of corporate governance. National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG) has accredited this Centre for Corporate Governance at IIM Tiruchirappalli as National Centre for Corporate Governance (NCCG).
The Placement and External Relations Office (PERO) of IIM Trichy serves as an interface of the institute with corporate and media and works towards facilitating inspiring and enlightening intellectual interactions. PERO handled the lateral and final placements of the 2016-17 batch successfully. IIM Trichy was one of the very few institutes in the country to have 100% final placements.

I am glad to inform you that IIM Trichy has been selected by the Ministry of HRD to conduct Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). TEQIP is a World Bank assisted project initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development which aims at building academic leadership and improving the quality of technical education in the country.
I am glad to report that the faculty members of IIM Trichy have a number of publications in reputed international journals as well as have presented their research findings in the best international conferences in their areas. A detailed list of their publications and presentation is given in the report.
IIM Trichy believes in the holistic development of its students. It encourages students to participate in a number of competitions in other institutes all over the country. They have formed several clubs which arrange a number of events like industry talks, seminars, workshops, guest lectures and quizzes through these clubs.
Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is the Centre for academic and professional knowledge sharing. It aims to be a source of information and knowledge for students, faculty and other stake holders of IIM Trichy. It hosts a vast collection of books, research journals, magazines and newspapers in the field of management and social sciences, from India and across the world.
IIM Trichy is a socially responsive organisation and understands its social responsibility. Elixir – the social responsibility club at IIM Trichy organizes lectures to increase awareness of social issues and to inculcate the concept of ‘giving back to society’ in the minds of students.
“Insight” is a unique guest lecture series which provides corporates the best way to directly interact with the students. It is a platform where eminent personalities from the realm of business present a picture of their world to the students.
The construction of permanent campus of IIM Trichy is in full swing and we would soon be shifting to the permanent campus. At this juncture, I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude to NIT Trichy officials for the excellent support rendered to IIMT for conducting the operations of IIM Tiruchirappalli in their campus and for providing all the facilities like Swimming Pool, Badminton Courts, outdoor games like Cricket and Foot Ball, Gymnasium, Library and so on.
The above achievements would not have been possible but for the unstinted guidance, support and cooperation from the Chairman and esteemed members of the IIM Trichy Society, Board of Governors, faculty and staff members of the institute and the officials of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. I thank them for their whole-hearted and continued support to us during the year.

IIM Tiruchirappalli (Trichy, in short) offers Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and Fellowship Programme (FP) in Management at the Trichy campus. It also offers Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) in its Chennai Centre.
Post Graduate Programme in Management
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) at IIM Tiruchirappalli is the flagship programme of the Institute. The programme’s main objective is to develop young women and men into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, providing leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society.
The Post Graduate Programme in Management is recognized as equivalent to a Master’s Degree of an Indian University for the purpose of admission to higher IIMT students along with other scholarship winners at the Societe studies, by the Association of Indian Universities. PGP 2015-2017 (5th batch)
Summer Internship :
The students of PGP 2015-2017 batch undertook summer internship projects at various organizations for a period of 8-10 weeks during the months of April and May 2016. Successful completion of summer internship is a requirement for the award of the diploma.
Second year course work :
The second year of course work for PGP 2015-2017 batch commenced on June 7, 2016. 106 students of the PGP 2015-2017 batch and 2 students from the previous batch who had repeated the first year course work with PGP 2015-2017 registered for second year course work.

Course of Independent Study :
Students are given an option to take up a ‘Course of Independent Study’ (CIS) during Term- IV / V. The CIS aims to encourage students to delve deeply and rigorously into any subject of their interest and to provide an opportunity for the students to develop the capacity to plan and manage own learning.
The following CIS projects were undertaken by students during the academic year 2016-2017:
1. Examining alternative dispute mechanisms in the wake of the power of Supreme Court to set aside arbitral awards.
2. Study on the shopper behaviour in offline environment.
3. Indian patent system and the pharmaceutical industry: A policy level study with a special focus on compulsory licensing.
4. Beating conventional wisdom - How born globals create value.
5. Towards enhancing learning experience of IIM Trichy through design thinking.
6. A study on consumer loyalty.
7. Understanding factors involved in adoption of Learning Management Systems.
8. Future utilities of electric load.
Student Exchange Programme:
Seven students spent their Term V at our partner institutes as part of the International Exchange Programme.
Make-a-Difference project presentations :
As part of the programme, all the students are required to undertake a ‘Make-a-Difference’ project in groups, addressing a social problem. The project is an attempt to inculcate the core values of social responsibility, humility and empathy in its students so that they evolve ad socially responsible managers and also work towards the betterment of their communities. Successful completion of Make-a-Difference project is mandatory for the award Heading of the table: Best Make-a-Difference Project.

One student Convocation on March 18, 2017. of the 2015-2017 batch were asked to repeat the first year course work along with 2016- 2018 batch for not having met the criteria required for promotion to Term IV.
Inauguration :
The programme commenced with the inauguration programme held at EEE Auditorium, NIT Trichy Campus, on June 24, 2016. Shri S Gopinath, Executive Director, BHEL was the Chief Guest and Shri Suhas Nath Misra, co-founder, Hector Beverage was the Guest of Honour of the event. During the inauguration, the top student in each section at the end of each term, based on Term Grade Point Average, were Chief Guest, Smt. Usha Ananthasubramanian and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Kwan Chee Sun along with Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy, Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri, awarded a Merit Certificate and a book grant Director, IIM Trichy, Prof. V. Gopal and Prof. Sirish Kumar Gouda. of Rs. 2,000/- each. The top 5% students in the overall batch based on Cumulative Grade Point Average at the end of Term III were placed in the Director’s Merit List and were awarded a Merit Certificate and a book grant of Rs. 5,000/- each.

Preparatory Programme
A preparatory programme of two weeks duration was conducted prior to the start of regular sessions. Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM)
IIM Tiruchirappalli launched the PGPBM programme to groom working executives who aspire to move into senior leadership roles. PGPBM is a 24-month part-time, in-class programme that is conducted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays every week.
PGPBM 2016-18 Admissions
A total of 40 students joined the PGPBM programme in the year 2016-18. Admissions were carried out in two stages – a written test, followed by a personal interview. The cut-offs and the final offers were made to various categories of students in accordance with the Government of India guidelines.

Convocation :
The institute’s annual convocation was held on Saturday, 18th March 2017 at the BARN Hall, NIT Trichy Campus. Shri D Shivakumar, Chairman & CEO, Pepsico India Holdings Pvt. Ltd and Shri Shivendu Nadkarni, Vice President, Asia Pacific/Africa Snacks, Kellogg’s delivered the Convocation Address as the Guests of Honour.
108 students of the PGP 2015-2017 batch and 02 students of PGP 2014-2016 batch who completed their course work along with PGP 2015-2017 batch, having met the required academic criteria, were awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Management. A total of 33 students (31 from PGPBM 2014-17 and 02 students of PGPBM 2013-16) batch graduated in this year’s convocation.

Fellow Programme in Management
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the doctoral programme of the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIMT or Institute). The FPM at IIMT encourages rigorous and inter-disciplinary research in all areas of business management.
Duration of the Programme
Students are expected to complete the programme within 5 years. It is possible to complete the programme within 4 years also. The maximum duration of the programme is 7 years.
Curriculum and Programme Structure
The Programme is broadly divided into six phases of course and research work. During the first 3 phases, the student undertakes rigorous coursework in her/his area of interest as well as in other areas of management. In the second half of the program, the student independently works
on the dissertation under the guidance of the FPM students and staff members during Yoga Session at IIM Trichy Dissertation Advisory Committee.
Financial Support
FPM students receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 30,000 till passing their Comprehensive Qualifying Exams (CQE). After clearing the CQE, the monthly stipend will be revised to Rs. 36,000 till the end of their fourth year in the programme. The stipend is in addition to tuition fee waiver and for covering their living expenses, books and materials, insurance and other contingency expenses. A contingency grant of Rs. 30,000/- per year is allowed on a reimbursement basis for purchase of hardware, software, books, databases, data collection expenses, conference expenses, etc.
The institute offers support up to Rs. 200,000/- per student for attending national and international conferences.
A start-up grant of Rs. 50,000 (for purchase of computer hardware and software) is available when students join the programme.

International Relations at IIM Trichy:
The International Relations Office (IRO) of IIM Tiruchirappalli serves as the liaison with universities abroad for academic partnership. The IRO facilitates student exchange, faculty exchange, joint research, joint programmes, etc. with universities abroad through academic partnership.
International Partners IIM Tiruchirappalli has agreements of academic cooperation with the following institutions: 1. IAE Aix-Marseille Graduate School of Management, France 2. ESSCA – École de Management, School of Management, France (Hungary Campus) 3. EMLYON Business School, France In addition, IIM Tiruchirappalli has initiated discussion for signing of agreements with the following institutions during 2016-17: 1. SKEMA Business School, France (6 campuses across France, China, Brazil and USA) 2. ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal 3. University of Dubai, UAE Outbound Student Exchange Student Exchange aims at providing the students with a global exposure in order to obtain first- hand knowledge of another country and enhance their understanding of global culture in businesses. Live Projects
The placement team, in association with various companies, channeled multiple live projects to the students. Live projects provide opportunities for students to work for organizations on part-time basis, along with their academic curriculum.
Campus Events and Competitions
The placement team coordinates with companies to conduct events like workshops and competitions in our campus, either online or in person. Some of those prominent events include Mahindra War Room 2016, Cognizant CXO challenge, YES Bank Transformation series and PepsiCo Change the Game. Participation in such events, help students widen their knowledge about the company and its industry, and devise strategies to resolve their current business challenges, thereby, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.
Career Development Workshops
For students to groom themselves for the summer, lateral and final placements, separate career development workshops were organized for 2015-17 and 2016-18 batches. Career Carve sessions, communication workshops and Industry deep dive sessions, that provide an in-depth analysis of various sectors, were also conducted.
Summer Placements:
The conclusion of summer placement process of the PGP 2016-18 batch reaffirms IIM Trichy's position as one of the leading management B-schools in the country. The institute was privileged to host some of the most esteemed companies in the industry. Though 106 companies expressed interest in participating in the placement process, IIMT completed the placements with just 70 companies offering roles to 159 students across various domains – Sales & Marketing, Finance, General Management, Strategy, Operations and HR.

With the successful completion of the final placement process for the PGP 2015-2017 batch, IIM Tiruchirappalli registers itself as one of the most sought after B-school in the country. Management Development Programmes (MDPs)
Management Development Programme is an educational programme designed and offered by the Faculty members of IIM Trichy. The primary objective of MDP’s is to serve the educational and training needs of practicing managers in various sectors of the economy by enhancing their knowledge and developing their skills through the learning imparted by the faculty members of IIM Trichy.
IIM Trichy had offered a training programme on HR Metrics and Analytics. Senior HR Managers from HLL Biotech Ltd, Banca Sella, Apollo Tyres, etc., attended this training programme. IIM Trichy has also offered training programmes for Irrigation Management Training Institute, L & T and Strategy Academy.
In-Company Training Programmes (ICTPs)
ICTP’s are programmes that are customized to suit the needs of the client organization. IIMT has done there should be continuation on Building Corporate Credibility and Values for the Powergrid Corporation Ltd. Twenty Four participants attended the training programme. Training programme on Personality Development was conducted for the Joint Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of the Commercial Taxes Department of Government of Tamil Nadu at Campus. First batch comprised of 29 participants and the second batch with 30 participants. IIMT also conducted training programme on Data Visualization for the executives of Hewlett Packard Enterprise for 24 participants.
Consultancy Projects
IIM Trichy has successfully completed consultancy assignments for clients from diverse sectors like IT, Fund Management, Stock Exchange, manufacturing, service sector, Government undertakings. IIM Trichy has successfully concluded the consultancy projects with National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Board of Apprentice Training (BOAT).
Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP)
TEQIP is a World Bank assisted project initiated by Ministry of Human Resource Development which aims at building Academic Leadership among technical institutes to improve leadership competence of academic leaders of Technical education in the country.

IIM Trichy successfully completed the seventh, eighth and ninth batch of TEQIP-II Management Capacity Enhancement Programmes at Chennai Centre. A total number of 97 participants which includes Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors including HODs from various engineering colleges attended the event.
Interactive Learning Programmes
IIM Trichy offered Executive Education Programme through Interactive Learning Mode in collaboration with NIIT Imperia. The main objective of this programme is to develop managerial capabilities among the people who are in the early stages of their career. The Second batch of Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Business Management (PGCBM-02) was concluded with the valedictory ceremony. A total number of 62 students graduated.

Alumni Meet 2017
Alumni activities moved from strength to strength in the year 2016-17. So far, 537 alumni have registered with IIMT. During the year, alumni created a facebook page “IIM TRICHY ALL STUDENTS”.
During the year 2016-17, IIMT conducted the first all alumni meet on the campus on Jan 21- 22, 2017. Apart from the usual activities, alumni also visited the permanent campus. This was followed by various sessions with the students and faculty.

The extremely awaited visit to the new campus was followed by a “special” lunch at the Beryl mess, a lunch which saw numerous giggles and laughter as stories and fables from Beryl and the institute were exchanged at the lunch table. Smiles, and probably a tear, from some of those present spoke volumes about their attachment with the Institution. A football match between the alum and the students was the attraction of the night after a pretty long day. Energy and aggression on the field are what our boys are known for and neither side disappointed on this account with the alum tem winning in penalties after they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is the Centre for academic and professional knowledge resources. It aims to be a source of information and knowledge for students, faculty and other stakeholders of IIM Trichy. It hosts a vast collection of books, research journals, magazines and newspapers in the Field of management and social sciences, from India and across the world. It facilitates knowledge creation through its electronic search platform and access to a wide array of research resources on and on campus.
Our e-resources collection provides users with anytime, anywhere access to reading material for learning, teaching and research activities. LRC subscribes to a number of company and industry databases, e-journals, simulations software statistical tools, cases etc., to provide latest scholarly information to the academic community.

Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations:
As part of Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations, LRC organized a Special themed Book Exhibition on “Gandhi” at LRC along with the movie screening directed by Attenborough on 2nd Oct, 2016 between 11.00 am to 7.00 pm. An Invited talk on was also organized by LRC.
Drishtikon:
The Learning Resource Centre, in association with Rangbhoomi Club launched ‘Drishtikon’ to organize regular screening of films and documentaries on socially relevant issues for the academic community in hopeto sensitize students and faculty members to the contemporary social issues that need urgent attention. Jesus Camp, Mississippi Burning, 12 Years of a Slave, To Kill a Mocking Bird and Manthan - The Story of Amul are the world renowned and critically acclaimed movies and documentaries that were selected to be screened through the year.
Internship for LIS students
LRC offers internship opportunities to post graduate library and information science students. Intern assignments are structured practical experience. Three students from Pondicherry University have completed their 21 days internship programme during 1st to 24th June 2016.
Field Work Training Programme
LRC offers Field Work Training to the final year PG Students of Library Information Science students. 19 students from Bishop Heber College, Trichy got benefitted this year. After training and accessing performance of each student 25 marks awarded and it was sent to the HoD for grading. 14 students from Bharathidasan University, Trichy also got benefitted this year.
Apprentice Training
LRC provides apprenticeship training (since 2012) to the Postgraduate Library & Information Science students in order to get professional proficiency & working experience in a library to gain working knowledge of automation work, online information handling etc. Every year LRC selects three to four candidates through open advertisement.

A State-of-art library at Chennai Centre provides access to a print Books, Magazines, Newspapers and select E-resources/Databases to the students and faculty at Chennai Centre.

sessions and discussions. SMART Classroom is augmented with overhead microphones which captures the voice from the entire area of the classroom. Board room is also equipped with Video Multi Conferencing and Audio Conferencing System integrating advanced audio visual solutions.
IIMT believes that students should be sensitized about gender issues and thereby organizes a workshop every year as part of the Orientation programme for the new batch of PGP students who join the Institute. On 26 June, 2016, a workshop was conducted by External Member of ICC, Prof Hemalatha Bhat on gender diversity and sexual harassment at the workplace. A similar workshop was conducted on August 4, 2016 at the inauguration of the new batch of PGPBM students at IIMT’s Chennai Centre by Ms Nagalakshmi Karthikeyan from TCS. The orientation programmes of both PGP and PGPBM students are attached herewith.
On 26 June, 2016, the first meeting of the re-constituted ICC was held at IIMT’s Committee Room. The Minutes of the meeting are attached herewith.
On July 26, 2016, ICC Member Secretary Ms Priya V. Prakash attended a workshop on “More Effective Compliance with the POSH Act: Perspectives and Insights for ICC Members, Decision Makers and People Who Manage Teams” organized by CII’s Indian Women Network at Chennai.
On August 11, 2016, an open Guest Lecture was delivered by author Ms. Vandana Vasudevan on "Women and the city: How they move around and why" for all students and the female staff members of IIMT.
An online webinar was organized on “Discrimination vs Harassment” on November 24, 2016 in the Committee Room at IIMT for all faculty and staff members. The presentation was conducted by M. S. Madhri G., advocate at T.S. Gopalan & Co in collaboration with CII’s Indian Women Network, Tamil Nadu.
As part of the Women’s Day Celebrations on March 8, 2017, a talk on “Health Awareness for Women” was organized for women faculty, staff and students of IIM Trichy in Class Room 3. The talk was delivered by Dr S. Bhanumathy, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

Indian Institute of Management Trichy is affiliated with the University affiliation program of the CFA Institute. As a part of University recognition program, we invited Ms.Sonia Gandhi member of Indian Association of Investment professionals (IAIP), for conducting a guest lecture at our campus for a lecture on Ethics and Financial markets. Ms. Gandhi is an investment industry professional with over 15 years experience with multinational investment banks - JP Morgan , BNP and Deutsche Bank. She is an MBA and a CFA charterholder. The event was held in the first week of October
2016. We also got three scholarships from the CFA Guest lecture on ‘Ethics & Financial markets’ by Ms. Sonia Gandhi Institute for the CFA exam. The scholarships were awarded to our students M Jayaram, Preeti Manoharan and Aradhyula Praveen Kumar

4TH HR Conclave
IIM Trichy organized the 4th annual HR Conclave on 5th November, 2016 at The Westin Chennai. The event brought together eminent professionals from the industry on a common stage where they shared their experiences and knowledge pertaining to the evolving role of Human Resources Management (HRM) in organisations. The Conclave, which saw over 150 participants, provided a platform for HR professionals to interact with the panelists and exchange
experiences and best practices in the field of HRM. Panel discussion during 4th HR Conclave The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Suresh Kumar R., Operations Director at Vodafone India Ltd.
The panel discussions were followed by a boardroom simulation game organised by LearnBiz Simulations. The simulation game tested and reinforced management education by creating a real-time simulated competitive environment.

CONSULATE (Consulting Club)
National Level Case Analysis Competition: THINK-PIECE: Consulate Club organised ThinkPiece – The annual quiz and Case Analysis Writing Competition on 7th September 2016 which received tremendous response various B-Schools. The event was also listed on Dare2Compete.com, which is the largest online network for Indian business school events and competitions. Workshops: A workshop on “Unlocking Case Competitions” was conducted on 8th September 2016 by Prof. K.V. Mukundhan to address the question of how to go about addressing a case study with basic Strategy frameworks and tools. Consulting Czars: The Annual Business Festival for IIM Trichy “Dhruva” was held between the 21st and 23rd of October 2016. The Consulate club held the Consulting Czars which was aimed at challenging the participants through gruelling rounds of quiz, testing them in areas of current business affairs, management strategy, and general knowledge.

Live Projects: There were many live projects like Stovekraft and Green Car undertaken by the Consulate Club. Consulate in association with students of INSEAD – France and Singapore continues to do pro-bono consulting for a Trichy – based NGO called Spastics (an NGO helping kids with cerebral palsy).
BREAKING CASE: "Breaking Case" is an exclusive Case Study Competition for PGP 1 students. The Case study competition enabled the participants to study and find out the method of operations and come up with a unique and radical way of doing business that will help them achieve their target.
FinvesT (Finance Club)
Guest Lectures: FinvesT conducted three guest lectures and their details are provided below
a. Ethics & Financial Markets – FinvesT conducted a guest lecture by Ms. Sonia Gandhi on Ethics and financial markets on Monday, rd3 October, 2016.
b. FinvesT also conducted a guest lecture by Mr. Ashish Patil, who covered a wide range of topics from Corporate Finance to Mergers & Acquisitions on Saturday 25th February, 2017. It was very interactive session in which he shared his 18 years of experience in diverse fields, ranging from Investment Banking to Fund Raising.
c. This lecture taken by Mr. Vivek Singh, an IIM Ahmedabad alumnus and the founder of Jazz Factory - a Presentation Design & Consulting Firm conducted a session on “Secrets of a Presentation Designer”.
Live Projects: There were many live projects undertaken by FinvesT like CFA Live Project and Veda corporate Advisers.
Fusionen Meister: Fusionen Meister conducted by FinvesT with the assistance of the Dhruva team presented the ultimate valuation challenge to all the Finance enthusiasts across all the leading B-Schools of the country. The event saw an enormous response with 125 teams participating this year and consisted of 3 rounds.
Stock-O-Mania: The trading event was conducted from November 15th till December 9th, with a training session held at the start of the event followed by a month-long virtual trading contest.
Movie Screening and Discussion: Screening of Movie 'The Big Short' which was based on the 2009 financial crisis was conducted. The screening was followed by a discussion on the how’s’ and why’s of the crisis led by Prof. Rohan Chichwadkar.
Workshops: Two workshops on Financial Modelling and Excel Beginner Level were organised by the club.
The Balanced Sheet: Initially started as a monthly edition, the newsletter got tremendous response from the batch and compliments from the faculty. The newsletter contains market data including indices, bullion and currencies.

MAC (Marketing Club)
Brand Warz: Brand Warz is the annual case study competition of the Marketing and Advertising Club of IIM Trichy and their main event for ‘Dhruva’. The competition received a great response from students from various B-schools across the country.
Guest Lectures: MAC organized two guest lectures on "Sales and Distribution in a B2B Environment" and “The Market talks” by Mr. Mani P S, National Manager, Sales and Distribution for Saint Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Sameer Jain, Associate Director for online Marketing at Shopclues.com respectively.
Marketing Opus: MAC conducted a pan- India event in the form of an article writing competition.
Newsletter: A Newsletter was published in March’17 that aimed to bring the winner’s articles in the form of a magazine incorporated with ‘Marketing Ninja’ comic strips.
MATRIX (Information Systems Club)
Synalytics: This was the first edition of the annual online quiz based on the various domains of analytics and current trends in the technology sector. The Quiz helped participants to have a clear idea of the basic topics in the field of analytics and keep them updated with the latest trend in analytics and technology sector.
6 Degrees: 6 Degrees was a case study event by Matrix, IIM Trichy at our national level fest Dhruva'16. Participants included students from all the top colleges of the country.
Live Projects: The club brought live project opportunities each year for students to have an experience of working on real world problems. Last year two live projects on PTC india and Tech-Tailor were floated.
Gamers Asylum: Matrix conducted Gamers Asylum during Dhruva’16. Gamers Asylum is a multiplayer FIFA tournament wherein 16 players battled it out to be called the "Best FIFA Player" on campus.

Ideal Recruit: Persona Club conducted Ideal Recruit event for the PGP – I year on September 9, 2016. The panel consisted of PGP – II students. The panels are allotted to PGP - II based on the companies in which they worked during their summers. The event was a great platform for PGP first year students to test their summer placement readiness.
HRESOLVE: It’s a two-round event conducted by Persona HR academic club of IIM Trichy during Dhruva’16. 218 Team registered and participated. The first phase was an online Quiz and second phase was a case study event.
Phata Poster Nikla HR: “Phata Poster Nikla HR” was an Online Inter-College HR Quiz conducted to judge the skills, knowledge and temperament of the future HRs.
Carte Blanche: To develop more comprehensive knowledge in the use of HR frameworks using case- based analysis, Carte Blanche was conducted on 8th Feb 2017.
SIGMAETA (Operations club)
OpsWise 5.0: OpsWise is a national level case study competition which tests the participant’s depth in diverse concepts of Operations & Supply Chain Management conducted during Dhruva. The event is aimed at making crucial decisions related to process improvement & inventory management in real businesses.
OpsByte: Ops-bytes is the series of quiz contests to test and boost one’s Operations acumen. It judges the Operations and Strategy skill of the participants with a difficulty level of medium to high. Ops-bytes was conducted for the students of b-schools all over India over a course of 3 rounds held weekly, from 22nd July 2016 to 5th August 2016.
OpsVision 2.0: The second edition of OpsVision, the annual operations magazine was released this year. The main aim of OpsVision is to provide the readers with industry updates along with the thoughts of industry experts. It has the complete essence of any Operations that containing the latest insights into the world of Operations Industry and Supply Chain compiled with fun facts and quizzes.
Workshop on R: A classroom session on the software R was conducted on 11 September, 2016. It was meant for students of PGP-I to get them accustomed to data analysis and solution finding through the use of R software.

E – CELL (Entrepreneurship Club)
Guest Lectures: E-Cell welcomed Ms. Prachi Garg, founder of www.ghoomophiro.com., to conduct a lecture on the topic of the “Challenges women entrepreneurs face and how to cope up with them”.
Live Project: Live Projects like ‘The Tech Portal’, ‘Pick My Laundry’ were undertaken by the club.
E-Summit: The main motive of the Summit was to encourage the students to start their entrepreneurial ventures. The summit was able to bring many entrepreneurs, VCs and incubators in to one platform. A Panel Discussion on “Designing a Winning Business Model” was also organised.
B-Plan Event: A B-Plan competition was organized for students in which more than 50 teams, from all over the country participated. 5 best teams were shortlisted to present their business plans to an esteemed panel of judges consisting of CEOs and VCs. 11 MEGAPIXEL Team 11 Megapixels covered all the events conducted by various clubs and committees at Dhruva ’16. Apart from that it conducted two events at Dhruva’16 namely Drishti, the photography contest and Final cut, the short film contest. The team also covered events like Sangram’16 at IIM Bangalore, BCL, ITFL, Festivals and events conducted by Cultural committee, HR Conclave at Chennai, E- Summit’16, 6th Foundation day, IIMT Idol 2016, Mahindra War Room, Trichy Marathon 2016, Sanskriti 5.0, Swachh day and Blood Donation camp by Elixir and various other guest Lectures by Academic clubs during the course of the year.

Independence Day Dance performance: On the occasion of 70th Independence Day of India, a small yet powerful patriotic dance was performed by the members of Breakfree in front of the academic block as part of the cultural program.
Dhruva’16 promotional Flash Mob: To promote the annual fest of IIM Tiruchirappalli, Breakfree along with the Fest committee organized a flash mob in Femina Mall.

Dandiya Night: Breakfree conducted Dandiya Night in association with Cultural Committee on 10th October, 2016.
Dance Workshop: A hip-hop dance workshop was conducted on 22nd January, 2017. The workshop lasted for 2 hours and was about some basics of ‘Locking & Popping’ (a popular dance form under hip-hop genre). Western dance group of NIT Trichy agreed to conduct the workshop.
ELIXIR
Book donation drive: Part of the collected books was donated to Central Public library, Karur. Part of collected books were also donated to Turning Pages, an NGO working to create library for underprivileged students. Remaining books were sent for recycling purpose (pulping). Through this drive, they have collected Rs. 1800. Elixir will be using this fund for Social welfare activities of Elixir that are planned for Academic year 2016-17.
Clothes donation drive: Total of 100+ Kgs of Clothes were collected as part of donation drive from PGP 2014-16, PGP 2015-17 & PGP 2016-18. All the clothes were washed & ironed before donating to maintain cleanliness for the donation. Around 50 Kgs of clothes were sent to GOONJ NGO, Bangalore & Uday Foundation. Remaining clothes were donated to students of an orphanage home in Trichy.
Orphanage visit: Elixir – IIM Tiruchirappalli organized an Orphanage visit on 20th August to Manavar Illam, Tiruverumbur, 6 km from our campus. Cloth donation was organised and career guidance was given. The club also organized a drawing competition where the children were asked to make any drawing of their choice.
Blood Donation camp: Blood donation camp was conducted on the 15th of August 2016 and also on 4th January 2017 on the eve of Foundation Day in IIM Trichy campus in conjunction with Doctors' Blood Bank Trichy. A record number of 108 donors have donated blood in the Blood donation camp organised by Elixir- IIM Tiruchirappalli on the occasion of our Independence Day.
Swachh pakwada: On the lines of Swachh Bharat, a mission to make India clean and free of open defaecation, Elixir along with Enviro organised Swachh Pakwada twice. As a part of Swachh Pakwada Elixir and Enviro organised the following events

Swachh Day – Organised a mass pledge by all the students, faculties and staff of IIM Trichy. This is followed by the cleaning drive at the campus back entrance and Beryl hostel.
Essay writing competition – IN collaboration with enviro club we have conducted an essay writing competitions with a theme related to Swachh Bharath Abhiyan and distributed prizes to the winners.
Speech competition – In association with Podium club, we have conducted a speech competition on the topic Gandhi and his principles and distributed prizes to the winners. The main objective of all the above activities is to inculcate a sense of responsibility towards the Swachh Bharath Abhiyan mission taken up by the Government of India.
Organised cleaning drive at the Thuvakudi hospital premises by our team in association with Enviro Club, IIM Tiruchirappalli.
Trichy Marathon: Trichy Marathon organizers of Kauvery hospitals conducted Trichy Marathon for a noble cause of organ donation.
Daan Utsav: Elixir celebrated the festival of Joy of giving week. As a part of the festival it organised the following events -
Gnan Daan ("Knowledge Sharing"): On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Elixir invited Dr Shiv Visvanathan, a famous public intellectual to our campus to speak on Gandhian ethics for Today. He is the professor and vice dean of OP Jindal School of Law and Public policy.
Vastu Daan ("Articles Donation"): In this event people can donate their old clothes, shoes, toys etc. All old articles will be donated. Old shoes will be sent for recycling.
Bhojan Daan ("Serve the ones who serve us"): Through this event, Elixir served the people who regularly serve the students at IIM Trichy i.e., serve the mess workers, housekeeping staff, security guards etc. a lunch in IIM Trichy’s hostel mess.
Dhan Daan ("Fulfilling wishes of under-privileged"): Elixir organises a cricket match and a fun game between Faculty and Students with rules in such a way that participants are directed to fulfil certain number of wishes from the wish tree built with wishes of under-privileged children, placed at the campus. The students team won the match against the faculty team.

Yukti: As a part of Dhruva 2016, Elixir organised Yukti, a live case study competition in association with Oxfam India, an NGO. The case is related to how to increase the visibility of an NGO and how to raise funds.
Fund Raising Campaign: Elixir organised a fundraising campaign for Mr. Francis Xavier, LRC security guard to cover the medical expenses of his son Allwin. Allwin was injured in his head in a workplace accident and diagnosed with a condition called ‘Cerebral edema’. Elixir was able to raise around Rs 1.05 lakhs through millap.org and donated it towards his medical expenses.
Cloth and Shoe Donation Drive: Around 20 kgs of clothes cloth were collected during this drive and were sent to Goonj. Shoes collected by Elixir were sent to ‘Greensole.in’ where they use spares from old shoes to produce new shoes that promote reuse and prevent the dumping of these shoes in landfills. They provide a portion of such manufactured footwear for the neediest.
Debate on Jallikattu: Debate on Jallikattu was conducted in association with Podium members. 8 students took part in this debate that was mediated by Prof. Vishnu and debated on pros and cons of conducting Jallikattu and on the ethical nature of the traditional Tamil sport.
ENVIRO CLUB
Enviro Club is dedicated to focus on three major areas - sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy. As an activity enviro performed a secondary research on upcoming green- technologies and create reports which strike a balance between technical as well as managerial aspects, making them comprehensible for investors/ executives.

Movie Screening: Drishtikon and Enviro Club conducted screening of the documentary ‘BEFORE THE FLOODS’. Before the Flood follows DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and document the devastating effects climate change is already having on our communities and ecosystems.
PODIUM
Tiny Tales contest was conducted online in October, 2016. It was a very short story competition inspired from Terribly Tiny Tales. The contestants participated enthusiastically and their stories were published on Podium’s Facebook page.
Connecting the Dots: The online event required contestants to shoot a short video and connect two random words given to them in any way they seem fit and construct a coherent story around it. Below is the wordlist from which random words were chosen.
Picathalon: In this individual participation contest a picture/photograph was given to the contestants, and they were required to provide a write up for the picture in around 200 words. Battle of the Words: A group debate was conducted as a part of the annual cultural festival – Dhruva’16. The topic of the debate was ‘Flipkart v. Amazon: Who will win the race?’
Debate: A debate on Jallikattu was conducted in association with Elixir Club. The participants were asked to choose one of the two sides: pro Jallikattu & against it.
Writer of the Month: This initiative is proposed to bring out hidden talent of the batch. The basic idea is to make IIM, Trichy students more visible on online platforms like Quora, Blogger, Wordpress, and Facebook etc. with top quality content.
QUIZZOTICA
Les Quizerables: Les Quizerables was an annual feature quiz organized on 7th July 2016. The quiz saw good participation from the new batch who grilled their mind on issues like International Business, Marketing and Economics basics.
Alapana: The live quiz, as a part of Dhruva, organized on 22nd October witnessed participation from teams of IIM Trichy and several other colleges. The quiz was of a general affair and tested the participants’ presence of mind and intelligence more than knowledge.
Amuse Bouche: The online quiz, as a part of pre-Dhruva events, organized on 6 October 2016. The event was a grand success as it saw participation from a whopping 924 students from different business schools across India.
Mela Quiz: The first in-house quiz, exclusively for IIMT students was The gold medallists in Football organized on 4th November 2016.
A total of 45 teams of two members each participated and showed their wits on questions related to music, entertainment, literature and arts.
India Quiz: The second quiz of the season saw students testing their knowledge and lateral thinking on questions related to the nation, its past, present and future. The quiz was conducted in standard format, written prelim round followed by final live round.

RANGBHOOMI
Rangbhoomi, the drama club of Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli endeavors to promote the art of theatre culture and enable the talented enthusiasts to unleash their talent in front of audience making them laugh, cry, wonder, think and be amazed.
Independence Day Skit: Rangbhoomi members enacted a self-written skit that followed the life of a student of IIM Trichy on the Independence day. The intention of the skit was to send a message of Swatch Bharat and promote a sense of cleanliness amongst the audience.
Page2Stage: Rangbhoomi believes with Shakespeare’s ideology that all the world is a stage. And it offered the participants or players to write their own stories and perform it to the best of their abilities.
Drishtikon: The idea behind Drishtikon series was to screen films and documentaries on socially-relevant issues for the academic community in hope to sensitize students and faculty to the contemporary social issues that need urgent attention. Jesus Camp, Mississippi Burning, 12 Years of a Slave, To Kill a Mocking Swimming Pool for the students Bird and Manthan - The Story of Amul are the world renowned and critically acclaimed movies and documentaries that were selected to be screened through the year.
Guest Lecture on Business and Economic Justice: The lecture was based on Dr. Malghan’s recent book, The Web of Freedom: J. C. Kumarappa and Gandhi’s Struggle for Economic Justice followed by an interaction on the aspects of economic justice from the point of view of water distribution in Bangalore city. He covered the aspects of the city’s growth and the effects it had on the population and environment.
SWARA
IIMT Idol: The flagship event of Swara which is an intra-college competition consisted of two rounds. In the first round there were 19 participants, where they had to submit an audio/video file of their musical performance for screening.
The VoiceRoy: The event was an inter-college competition where students from various colleges participated. Consisted of two rounds. In the first round there are 30 participants, where they had to submit an audio/video file of their musical performance for screening.

War of Bands: The event was an inter-college music band competition which was kept alive with the spirit of music with chords, beats, notes and rhythm.
The club members also participated in Cultural events and other activities during Independence Day, Sanskriti 5.0, Dhruva, HR Conclave, Foundation Day, Cultural event for Janmashtami and Republic Day.
SPORTS COMMITTEE
Aarambh: The first sports event of the academic year 2016-2017, Aarambh was conducted for all the Table Tennis enthusiasts in the PGP I batch. The tournament witnessed participation from 40 players from men’s and women’s categories in total.
Kurukshetra 3.0: The third edition of Kurukshetra got bigger and better with the number of sections increased to 3. The clash across the sections came about in various sports that included Cricket (men), Football (men), Table Tennis (mixed), and Carrom (women). The event, which was exclusively conducted for the PGP I batch, was a testimony to the massive talent that was waiting to be discovered.
Beryl Cricket League: BCL is the annual cricket tournament conducted by the Sports Committee, IIM Trichy. BCL, 2016 was the third edition and was played among the 6 teams namely – Mavericks, Willow Wizards, Juggernauts, Fine Legs, Old School Outlaws and Breakneck Beamers.
Ranneeti 1.0: This time Sports Committee, IIM Trichy started its new event Ranneeti for Chess and Carom enthusiasts. After enthralling performance in Sangram, to keep the energy level high Ranneeti was introduced. The participation from both the batches were very high with 45 participants.
Sangram: The biggest sporting event of the year Sangram 2016 which was held by IIM Bangalore saw IIM Trichy reach a new height and establish themselves as a sporting power. The Sports Committee played a vital role in assembling teams for the various events that was part of Sangram. IIMT represented in a total of 21 events. Demonstrating Hand washing under Rural Outreach and Render Program to rural Cleaning Activities undertaken as part of Swachhta Pakhwada Calendar students during Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan and cleanliness drive
in Football, Hockey and Table Tennis (Women). In all we had won a total of 21 medals (3 Gold, 4 Silver and 14 bronze).
ITFL 6.0: ITFL is the annual football tournament conducted by the Sports Committee of the institute. ITFL, 2017 was the 6th edition and was played among 6 teams.
Adios: ‘Saying goodbye with all the memories, not tears’, keeping in mind the stated quote, Sports Committee, IIM Trichy every year organizes friendly matches for the farewell of the seniors. This year’s Adios saw Cricket and Football match between PGP1 and PGP2.

Construction of buildings in phase I like Admin block, Academic block, PGP Hostels, Faculty quarters, Staff quarters and allied works are nearing completion stage. As on 31st March we have released an amount of Rs. 302 Crore to CPWD and overall 83% of works have been completed. Supply and fixing of Kitchen equipment, Furniture, IT and AV works are also under progress. It is proposed to complete the essential building like Admin, Academic buildings, Hostels and allied works before June- 2017, to start the first year classes at permanent campus and accordingly efforts are being made.
Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd has sanctioned an amount of Rs.14.20 crore under CSR scheme to install 2MW solar power plant at IIMT permanent campus and a MoU also has been executed with M/s. RECL. Now we are in the process of releasing the tender to install the solar power plant.
The Institute has executed a MoU with Tamil Nadu Water supply and Drainage Board (TWAD Board) to carry out the project to supply 2.5 lakhs liters of water per day from Cauvery river basin to the campus. The estimated cost of Rs.2,43,96,000/- for the project has been remitted to TWAD Board Tree planting at IIM Trichy campus during Independence Day Celebrations
IIMT has submitted a revised project report(DPR) for an amount of Rs.1046.89 crore (including capital & recurring expenditure) to EdCIL in the month of Feb-17 and requested to approve the revised DPR and sanction the amount to complete the construction of campus.

2. Vigilance Awareness Week 2016: The Institute observed Vigilance Awareness Week – 2016 during 31st October 2016 to 5th November 2016 in the following manner: a. Pledge-taking: All the faculty and staff members gathered in front of the Administrative complex and took the pledge against corruption.
b. Display of Banners: Digital banners containing anti-corruption slogans were displayed at prime locations of the Institute.
c. Online Poster and Multi-media jingles Competition: An Online Poster Competition and a Jingles Competition in Multi-media on “Public Participation in promoting Integrity and eradicating Corruption” was announced among the Students Community of the Institute.
d. Seminar: A seminar was conducted in “Public Participation in promoting Integrity and eradicating Corruption” on 3rd November 2016 was presented by Shri. R. Anandakumar, Sr. Deputy General Manager, BHEL Trichy.
3. Health Awareness Programmes:
a) Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli organized a health awareness programme on the topic “Healthy Heart” by Dr Aravinda Kumar, Chief Interventional Cardiologist, KMC Hospital on 9th September 2016 for Faculty, Staff and Students.
b) Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli organized a health awareness programme on the topic “Thy food is Thy Medicine” by Prof. Vijay Joshi on 11th January 2017 for Faculty, Staff and Students.
4. Swachh Bharat Mission 2016: a) The Institute observed “Swachh Day” on 8th September 2016 and carried out cleanliness activities in and surrounding of the Institute and Hostel by Faculty, Staff and Students. Mass Pledge on Swachh Bharat also taken by Faculty, Staff and Students. An Online Essay Competition and Speech Competition on “Swachh Bharat Mission” were conducted for our students and rewarded prizes. b) Mass Pledge on Swachh Bharat was taken by the first year students of the Institute and cleanliness activities carried out in and surrounding of the Government Hospital, Thuvakudi by Faculty, Staff and Students on 16th November 2016.

5. Matribhasha Diwas (Mother Tongue Day) 2017 : Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli observed Matribhasha Diwas (Mother Tongue Day) by organizing a Display of South Indian Local Languages Books on Tuesday, 21st February 2017 between 11.00 am and 5.00 pm at Learning Resource Centre.

SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES 1. BASIS FOR PREPARATION OF ACCOUNTS 1.1 The Financial Statements are prepared under the Historical Cost Convention method and on the accrual basis of accounting in accordance with the framework of accounting procedure prescribed by the MHRD for Central Higher Educational Institutions. 1.2 The “Revised Format of Accounts under Uniform Accounting Standard” (UAS) applicable to all Central Educational Institutions (CEIs) introduced by Ministry of Human Resource Development ( MHRD ) and communicated vide letter no. 29-4/2012-IFD dated 17.04.2015 of the Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor, MHRD, GoI, Department of Higher Education, New Delhi, has been applied for the preparation of Financial Statements of the Institute from Financial Year 2014-15 and the guidelines given thereon have been complied with in the preparation of Financial Statements in the new format of accounts prescribed and approved by the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India vide their letter no: RC(AB)/Misc./Format of A/cs/04-31/2013 dt.10.04.2015. 1.3 Amounts have been rounded off to the nearest rupee and they have been represented in lakh rounded to two decimals in Balance Sheet, Income and Expenditure Account and Receipts and Payments Account as per the instructions and accounting principles of guidelines of revised format of accounts approved by the CAG of India and they are rounded to the nearest rupee in the rest of schedules and notes.
2. REVENUE RECOGNITION 2.1 Tuition Fee collected from students is a composite one which comprises fee towards Tuition, Library, Course Material, Hostel Room Rent, Internet etc. and it is accounted on accrual basis. The Tuition Fee is treated as Internal Revenue Generation (IRG). 2.2 Interest income has been accounted on accrual basis.
3. FIXED ASSETS AND DEPRECIATION 3.1 Fixed Assets are stated at cost of acquisition including inward freight, duties and taxes and incidental and direct expenses related to acquisition, installation and commissioning. 3.2 Self-constructed assets are stated at directly relatable cost of construction of the assets. 3.3 Capital work in progress includes the cost of fixed assets under construction or that are not ready for their intended use. Capital advances are disclosed separately under current assets. 3.4 Fixed Assets are valued at cost less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation on fixed assets had been provided under Straight Line Method (SLM). From the Financial Year 2014-15 onwards, the following rates prescribed under the Revised format of Accounts of Central Educational Institutions (CEIs) approved by CAG of India have been adopted with retrospective effect in the books of accounts of the year 2014-15 since the new rate of depreciation are applicable from that year.

3.5 Depreciation is provided for the whole year irrespective of the date on which it is put to use. 3.6 Where an asset is fully depreciated, it will be carried at a residual value of Re.1/- in the Balance Sheet. 3.7 Assets whose individual value is equal to or less than Rs.2000/- (except library books) are treated as Small Value Assets (SVA) and they are depreciated 100% by keeping residual value of Re.1/-.
4. INTANGIBLE ASSETS 4.1 The software, e-databases, e-journals etc., bought for perpetual uses are classified as FA- Intangible Assets and they are amortized over 2.5 years. 4.2 The software, e-databases, e-journals etc., whose life is equal to or less than one year, are charged to revenue expenditure in the year of occurrence.
5. INVESTMENTS Investments, being short term in nature are valued at cost or market value, whichever is lower.

6. EARMARKED / ENDOWMENT FUNDS 6.1 Funds received from donors for specific purpose are termed as Earmarked/Endowment funds. The funds received from donor are represented by Investments or Term Deposits or Bank Balances. Interest earned on such funds is utilized for specific purpose for which funds were obtained. Income and Expenses relating to Endowment funds are set off in the fund account in Balance Sheet and not taken to Income and Expenditure account. 6.2 Corpus fund: The Tuition Fee received from the students has been treated as the Internal Revenue Generation (IRG) of the Institute. The Board of Governors (BoG) has, vide item No. V.7 of the Minutes of 13th Meeting held on 10.01.2014, approved for the creation of Institute Corpus Fund. The Corpus Fund so created has been deposited in Long Term Deposits with Scheduled Banks as per the decision of Board.
7. GOVERNMENT GRANTS 7.1 The Grants received from Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) are accounted on realization basis. However, where a sanction for release of Grant pertaining to the financial year for which accounts are prepared is received before 31st March of the respective financial year and the grant is actually received in the subsequent financial year, the Grant is accounted on accrual basis. 7.2 The Grants are received from MHRD under three group heads, viz., GIA-35 (Creation of Capital Assets), GIA-31(General) and GIA-36(Salaries). 7.3 Out of the Capital Grant received, the amount incurred during the year towards capital expenditure is transferred to Capital Fund. 7.4 Grant received towards General and Salary expenditure, is treated as income to the extent expenditure has been incurred during the year. 7.5 Unutilized Grants (including advances paid out of grants) are carried forward and exhibited as a current liability in the Balance Sheet. 7.6 The concept of "fund based accounting" has been complied with in the preparation of Financial Statements. 7.7 The Institute is funded by MHRD through Plan Grant only for meeting out both capital & revenue expenditure.
8. SPONSORED PROJECTS 8.1 In respect of ongoing Sponsored Projects, the amounts received from sponsors are credited to the head “Current Liabilities and Provisions” [Schedule 3(a)]. As and when expenditure incurred against such projects, the concerned project account is debited with allocated overhead charges. 8.2 The scholarship sponsored by various organisations are accounted in the same way as Sponsored projects.

9. EMPLOYEE BENEFITS 9.1 All the employees appointed since the inception of the institute are governed under National Pension System. The NPS is a defined contribution plan and contributions to the scheme are accounted on accrual basis. 9.2 Retirement benefits such as gratuity and leave encashment being defined benefit planare provided on the basis of actuarial valuation in accordance with the provisions of AS 15. Based on recommendation given by the Finance Committee (Item No. IV.6 of 14th FC 19.11.2016) and approved by the BoG (Item No. V.12 of 24th BoG held on 19.11.2016), a sum of Rs.1,77,95,111/- has been deposited in long term fixed deposit. For current year, provision of Rs.88,15,101/- has been made based on Actuarial Valuation. 9.3 Contribution to Provident Fund, which is a defined contribution plan, in accordance with the relevant statute is charged to Income and Expenditure account on accrual basis. 9.4 All other employee benefits are accounted as short term obligation on accrual basis.
10. INCOME TAX The income of the Institute is exempt from Income Tax u/s 10 (23C) (iii ab) of Income Tax Act, 1961.
11. PROVISIONS A provision is recognised when an enterprise has a present obligation as a result of past event, it is probable that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation, in respect of which a reliable estimate can be made. Provisions are not discounted to its present value and are determined based on best estimate required to settle the obligation at the balance sheet date. These are reviewed at each balance sheet date and adjusted to reflect the current best estimates.
12. CONTINGENT LIABILITY A contingent liability is a possible obligation that arises due to past events whose existence will be confirmed by the occurrence or non-occurrence of one or more uncertain future events beyond the control of the institute or a present obligation that is not recognized because it is not probable that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation. A contingent liability also arises in extremely rare cases where there is a liability that cannot be recognized because it cannot be measured reliably. The institute does not recognize a contingent liability but discloses its existence in the financial statements.

NOTES TO ACCOUNTS 1. Capital Commitment 1.1 The Government of Tamil Nadu have vide G.O. (Ms) No. 491, Higher Education Department, dated 22.12.2008 have issued order alienating land to an extent of 192.35 acres in Suriyur Village, Tiruchirappalli District situated within the Bharathidasan University (BDU) Campus to the Ministry of HRD, Department of Higher Education, Government of India, New Delhi, for the purpose of establishing Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli. The said land has been taken possession vide land transfer certificate effected by Thasildar of Tiruverumbur on 03.09.2010. The name transfer for the said land in the name of IIMT has been effected alongwith the patta in August 2010. As per the provisions of Section 17 (2) of the Registration Act, 1908, the registration is not required for any grant of immovable property by one Government to another Government.
However, the Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) have vide G.O. (Ms) No. 181 dated 10.08.2011 transferred land to an extent of 22.08 acres back to Bharathidasan University. The IIM Tiruchirappalli has taken up this issue with Chief Secretary and the District Collector of Tiruchirappalli to take back 22.08 acres of land and the issue of Government order to that effect is awaited. The MHRD has also been approached to resolve the issue. After holding several negotiations and correspondences with BDU and Principal Secretary, Dept. of Higher Education, GoTN a meeting was conducted among the Authorities of IIMT and BDU in the presence of Principal Secretary, Dept.of Higher Education, GoTN on 8th April, 2014 and a MoU was reached between IIMT and BDU on 24.06.2014. The MoU, interalia, envisaged alienation of land measuring 3.60 acres (including the bore well) in SF No.656/2B and as a measure of Goodwill and compensation for the said portion of land along with borewell, IIMT would pay a sum of Rs.135.42 lakh to Tamil Nadu Water & Drainage Board (TWAD Board) towards the cost of executing the project for providing 2.00 lakh litres of water per day from Cauvery basin to BDU as full and final payment. IIMT will not be liable for any recurring expenditure thereafter.
In addition to the above, the estimated cost for providing water supply from Cauvery Basin to the New Campus of the Institute worked out to Rs.171.00 lakh (2012-13 Schedule of rates) which was again revised to Rs.192.68 lakh (July 2015).
No value towards the cost of land has been assigned as the land was transferred by the Government of Tamilnadu free of cost.
1.2 Administrative approval was accorded for the construction of New Campus amounting to Rs.332.72 Cr.. A sum of Rs. 302.00 Cr. was deposited with CPWD, IIMT Project Division, IIMT Project Circle, Trichy till 31.03.2017. The value of work done as on 31.03.2017 is Rs.212.33 Cr.
2. Fixed assets 2.1 Additions in the year 2016-17 to Fixed Assets in Schedule 4 include Assets purchased out of Plan Funds amounting to Rs.100.46 Cr. The Assets have been set up by credit to Capital Fund. Assets

to the tune of Rs.0.009 Cr. were purchased for IIMT-CC out of its resources. 2.2 All the Fixed Assets of IIMT were acquired from Plan funds only right from the inception of the Institute to till date (31.03.2017). 2.3 No Fixed Asset has been purchased out of funds of Sponsored Projects as at the date of Balance Sheet.
3. Endowment fund The erstwhile Chairman of the Institute, Shri. M. Damodaran, IAS (Rtd.), proposed (Feb.2014) to institute an annual Award for the Outstanding Lady Student among the graduating students of the PGP every year in memory of his beloved mother, Late Ms.Leela Chandrasekhara Menon. The proposal was approved (Feb.2014) by the faculty council of the Institute and as per the approval of the BoG given vide item No.VI.3 of 14th Meeting held on 15.03.2014 in pursuance of the powers conferred on it under Rule 12(vii) of IIM Tiruchirappalli Society, an Endowment Fund in the name of “Leela Chandrasekhara Menon Award for the Outstanding Lady Student of the Year” has been created for which a sum of Rs.6.00 lakh has been received (in Feb.2014) from the erstwhile Chairman of the Institute and it has been deposited (10.03.2014) for period of 10 years in PNB through a separate savings bank account No.0457000100136854 opened with PNB to operate and maintain the said Endowment Fund Account. Out of the interest proceeds received every year, a cash prize of Rs.50,000/- along with a certificate will be awarded to the outstanding lady student among the graduating lady students of the two years PGP every year from 2013-15 Batch onwards.
4. Current assets 4.1 The current assets, Loans, Advances and deposits have a value on realization in the ordinary course, equal at least to the aggregate amount shown in the balance sheet. 4.2 The details of balances in savings accounts and fixed deposit accounts with banks are given in Annexure A to Schedule 7 (Current Assets).
5. Accounting for Grants Based on Uniform Accounting Standard issued by MHRD, the grants received have been classified as capital funds and corpus fund. Further, grants pending to be utilized as at the year end have been classified as unutilized grants.
6. Contingent liability 6.1 No court cases filed against the Institute is pending as on March 31, 2017 6.2 The institute has received a demand for payment of rent @ Rs.1,76,760 per month from 09.03.2011 onwards from NITT towards the occupation of their old library building (Ground floor and first floor). However, the demand of payment of rent has been contested by the institute, on the ground of having spent huge outlay to an extent of Rs.101.26 Lakh in total during 2011-

12 towards major civil works (Rs.61.35 Lakh) and electrical works (Rs.39.91 Lakh) besides non furnishing of break up details for the computation of monthly rent of Rs.1.77 Lakh. Upon a request made (September 2012) to NITT to provide the break-up details for the monthly rent fixed @ Rs.1.77 lakh, NITT provided (December 2012) details along with the monthly enhanced monthly rent of Rs.1.96 lakh. On a perusal of the workings provided by NITT, IIMT has reworked and arrived at the correct monthly rent @ Rs.71,000 and communicated (January 2012) to NITT for their concurrence. As IIMT did not receive concurrence from NITT, the due amount of rent of Rs.17.75 lakh for the period from March 2011 to March 2013 has been remitted to NITT in May 2013. However, necessary liability as of March 2013 has been provided for in the books of accounts for the year 2012-13. Though the rent has been regularly paid @Rs.71000/-p.m. for period up to September 2013, no further payment has been made on the ground of dispute to be resolved between NITT and IIMT and non- receipt of any demand from NITT. 6.3 In respect of Electricity and Water charges payable to NITT, it has been resolved to pay the energy charges, MD charges, Meter Rent and Water charges as per the demand raised by NITT and in respect of extra levy on M.D. charges it has been decided to pay on pro-rata basis as per the decision taken by the committee (January & February 2013) formed for this purpose. Accordingly, the dues of electricity and water charges up to March 2017 have been paid.
7. The National Pension System (NPS) Accounts are owned by the members of that fund and not by the Institution and all the transactions pertaining to NPS are routed through a separate bank account. A Receipts and Payments Account, Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet for NPS Account is attached to the Institution's Accounts. The contributions made by the Subscribers and the Institute were regularly remitted into NSDL -CRA A/c as per NPS instructions. The contributions relating to March 2017 are exhibited in the Current Liability of the Institute as the due date of payment falls in the first working day of April 2017. 8. The grant of Rs.1,43,40,00,000/- received from the MHRD, Government of India, during the FY 2016-17 has been classified as Capital Fund/Income under Income and Expenditure Account/Unutilized Grant under Current Liabilities as mentioned vide sl.no. 7 of Significant Accounting Policies (Schedule 23). 9. The Service Tax paid by the Institute on the various expenses incurred for the period upto 30.09.2013 has been accounted under a separate Head Service Tax. The Institute has not paid Service Tax on any of the expenditure incurred after 01.10.2013 as the Institute is exempt from Service Tax under the Category "Educational Institution". After the issue of GoI Notification no:06/2014-Service Tax dt.11.07.2014 of Ministry of Finance, Dept.of Revenue, the Institute stands exempted from the payment of Service Tax for the following services : a. All the services provided by an educational institution to its Students, Faculty and Staff b. All the services provided to an education institution by way of i. transportation of faculty, staff and students ii. catering iii. security iv. housekeeping / cleaning

v. all the services relating to admission to or conduct of examination by such institution. vi. rent for Immovable property. However, after the issue of mega exemption GoI Notification no:06/2015-Service Tax dt.01.03.2015 of Ministry of Finance, Dept. Of Revenue, the Institute stands exempted from the payment of Service Tax for the same services as stated above except for the rent for Immovable property. 10. During the current year, provision for gratuity and leave encashment amounting to Rs.88.15 lakh as per the actuarial valuation has been accounted in the books of accounts in the FY 2016-17. 11. A sum of Rs.85.90 lakh has been provided towards Incentive for Faculty (Work Plan Norm) during the previous FY 2015-16 and paid during the current year. Similarly a sum of Rs.103.08 lakh has been provided for the current FY 2016-17. 12. In respect of common pool expenditure towards admission for 2015-17 batch incurred by second generation IIMs, a sum of Rs. 10,60,343/- has been shown as “receivable from other IIMs during the current FY 2016-17. This figure has been arrived at based on the average of the actual expenditure of the three previous years’ batches (2012-14, 2013-15 and 2014-16) since the data for the actual expenditure incurred for 2015-16 batch by other IIMs has not been furnished by them so far. 13. The item wise details for Prior Period Income / Expenditure forming part of the Statement of Accounts for the year are given vide Schedule No:14 and Schedule No:22 respectively. 14. The Institute has been operating its unit at Chennai (IIMT – Chennai Centre) to provide Quality Management Education for the working Executives as a non-residential Executive Education Programme and it commenced its Academic operations from 27.08.2012 for the first Batch of PGPBM 2012-15. The figures for the IIMT, IIMT-CC and the consolidated portion for the two units are given in the Balance Sheet, Income and Expenditure Account and the connected Schedules for the year 2016-17. 15. The Institute has been granted Certificate of Exemption in perpetuity u/s 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961 with effect from 16.12.2015 vide UR No: AAAAI5004R/05/15-16/S-307G dt.31.12.2015 of CIT (Exemptions), Chennai. 18. Schedule 1 to 24 are annexed to and they form an integral part of the Balance Sheet at 31.03.2017 and the Income and Expenditure Account for the year ended on that date. 19. Amounts have been rounded off to the nearest rupee. 20. The previous year’s figures are recast/restated/regrouped wherever necessary.
