2017 End of Season Yearbook 1 Springwood United Football Club: 1968 - 2017 2017 has been a memorable year for Springwood United Football Club as we celebrate our 50th season. 1968 was the year that our football club was born under the name Springwood Soccer Club when a group of volunteers elected a committee and adopted a constitution to provide enthusiastic children of the area the opportunity to play soccer (as it was known at the time.) However, there are roots associated with the club prior to 1968. In 1965 to 1967 a club named Springwood Baptist Soccer Club played football in the district. In 1965 & 1966 Springwood Baptist played in the Protestant Churches Competition and in 1967 Springwood Baptist moved across to the Nepean District competition. There was no formal committee or constitution with Springwood Baptist and at the start of the 1968 season the organisation of soccer as Springwood Baptist experienced some difficulties. Subsequently a group of football parents came together and formed Springwood Soccer Club. The club had several home fields in its early years, starting out at Lomatia Park, Springwood for the first two years, where we shared the ground with the local rugby league club, moving on to St Johns Oval, Blaxland and even as far as Emu Plains. When Blaxland Soccer Club was formed, Springwood Soccer Club had to find a new home. Blue Mountains Alderman Tom Hunter advocated for the club and provided a strip of bush off Hawkesbury Rd, North Springwood that had previously been bequeathed to Blue Mountains Council by a well-known local GP, the deceased Dr Summerhayes. Hence the name Summerhayes Park. Summerhayes Park has seen significant development over the years. In 1972 the first pitch was ready for play and this followed up with a second pitch in 1973. Amenities were also built in 1971-72 with home and away change rooms, showers and a referee room. In 1979 a canteen was added. In 1974 the first floodlights were switched on and an exhibition match was played between Marconi and Western Suburbs. This was followed up in 1980 and 1981 with the construction and opening of the clubhouse. A facility that was built on a significant contribution of club/members funds and a State Government grant. The clubhouse would not have been built if it wasn’t for 15 of the clubs committee and members providing a personal guarantor on a loan, risking loss of their own personal funds if the club wasn’t able to repay the loan. 1982 saw the installation of new floodlights. In 2007 a stand was added facing field 1 and re-orientation of the pitch on the top field allowed the club to extend to three full size pitches. Most recently, the club has had improvements to the field 1 playing surface including better drainage, a replacement of all the floodlighting and the first phase of the car park sealing. Members can look forward to further enhancements in the future. In 1968 the committee decided on club colours of black shirts with white trim and white socks. However some of the teams were dressed in brown shirts donated by Greystanes Soccer Club. Over the years we’ve seen many variations of kit which became a predominately white shirt and the inclusion of red. The club’s crest name and crest has changed occasionally. In 1973 we became known as Springwood Soccer and Netball Club which later changed to Springwood Soccer and Sports Club. The lyrebird crest was replaced in 2009 with a phoenix. This coincided with a name change to Springwood United Football Club. During the years of 2011 & 2012 the representative football branch of our club was known as Mountains United. In this year, our 50th season we introduce a new playing strip which is inspired by shirt designs used throughout and history and we also see a return to the club crest of the lyrebird. Although the club has scaled back its operations to just provide grassroots football, we do have a rich history of providing other sports for the local community. The most significant of these was netball from 1971 until 2011. In 1976 the club ventured into softball, a sport which the club participated in until the early 1980’s. Further to this the club has, over the years, participated in darts, baseball and touch football. In 1978 we had both our All Age team and our Under 8 boys represent the club in the Champions of Champions. It would be the Under 8s who made it all the way to the final and although they were unsuccessful, they would go on to be crowned NSW Champion of Champions in 1980 as Under 10s. In 1985 our Under 18 boys became our second Champion of Champions and in 2008 our Under 18 Girls joined the honour roll as our third winners of the competition.

With the club continuing to grow and enjoying success on the pitch, a decision was made in 1991 to enter into Soccer NSW’s State League, or as it was also known, Federation Soccer. The club started in NSW Division Six, finishing second and spent the rest of the 1990’s in Division Four. In 2002 the ‘Feds’ won the Division Three competition and in 2005 topped the Division Two competition and were promoted to State League Division One for the 2006 season. The club has also had forays into representative football for youth boys and girls however the 2012 season was to be the last year for these higher level competitions and in 2013 the club returned to participating in local football only. From six teams of boys in 1968 to a peak of around 110 football teams in the mid 2000’s and now eighty-eight teams of boys, girls, men and women in 2017 the club remains one of the largest in the Nepean District and, as it did in the early years, it requires a huge effort from volunteers to keep the club running. For fifty years our club has grown on the hard work and dedication of a large band of volunteers who have given an extraordinary amount of hours of their time to running the club. Whether it be physical labour; such as those early days of clearing trees and levelling the terrain to create a field and building the clubhouse; marking lines, running a barbeque and canteen, installing fences, installing goal posts, etc. to the countless hours of administrative work involved in forming and organising teams and keeping members informed, the goal remains the same today as it did back in the mid-1960s, that is, to provide the opportunity for the children and adults of our community to experience the joy of participating in “the beautiful game” of football. Here’s to the next 50 seasons. Springwood United Football Club – “united in sport, uniting the community”

Chairman Report Season 2017 was our 50th Season and what a fantastic milestone to celebrate as a club. It started with the unveiling of a new playing strip that was a reflection of jerseys from previous eras of success in the club, and also saw a return to the clubs original Lyrebird crest. The 50th Season was a time to reach out to members past and present and to track down long lost club members as we were preparing for the 50th Season Dinner. Thank you to founding committee member and Life Member Mr George Alexander, who set himself the task of tracking down as many of the clubs early members and Life Members as he could. The 50th Season Dinner went off with great success, with many faces of the clubs current and past eras attending, including members from the clubs netball era, as well as several players from our era in State League Football. The evening culminating in an outstanding speech from George Alexander that finished with a standing ovation across the entire audience. Great work George, thank you for 50 years of your passion for the club. The 50th Season is also a time to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate all the hard work, efforts, vision and passion of previous and current Committee Members, Coaches, Managers, other volunteers and club members. Without those people, we would not have the great club that Springwood United FC is now, has been in the past and will continue to be in the years ahead. At the 2016 NFA Annual Awards Dinner our club was awarded the Linda Cerone Best Administered Club for 2016. A great achievement not only by the committee in administration, but across the club, thanks to our Coaches, Managers, Age Coordinators, players and supporters for their work in ensuring our teams were well administered, well behaved and well represented across the association. The club continues to be healthy in both playing numbers and financial position. We fielded 88 teams, composed of 1003 players. Small Sided Football continues to be the building blocks of the club, with the ‘spirit of small sided football’ on display every Saturday and some promising growth of talent getting ready to transition into competition football. Competition football has a promising future, with junior female teams, AA Women and O35’s teams growing in player numbers with positive results. Sponsorship coverage and revenue has grown significantly. Thank you to all of the clubs sponsors for your support of the club and its members, your contributions assist the club to make additional purchases for training equipment and kit teams out in training jerseys. The new fence along the western side of field 1 was completed in December and 2 training goals installed in April. This has assisted our teams to have goals based training sessions that will benefit all across the club, from goalkeepers, to strikers and defenders as they practice their attacking, shooting, shot stopping, defensive formations and set plays. The long awaited canteen renewal stalled, however, it is commencing shortly and will be completed before Season 2018. There is also a new 6m high fence funded and planned to be installed behind the western goals of field 2 prior to 2018. The clubs social calendar saw the Kids Disco, Trivia Night, and Coaches & Managers BBQ all go well, providing an opportunity for members to catch up away from the pitch, meet new friends and share stories and good times together. In 2018 we will continue to grow the social side of the club, if you haven’t yet attended one of the clubs social events, then please consider coming along in 2018. Thank you to all Committee Members, Coaches, Managers, Age Coordinators and volunteers for your hard work and passionate efforts you make each week to ensure players get onto the pitch to play football each week and provide great experiences for the clubs members. A special thanks to Pete Dempsey for his tireless work on delivering the new jerseys, signing up sponsors and organising the 50th Season Dinner. Finally, thank you to all of the players and supporters, for the passion you show in representing the club, your sportsmanship on and off the pitch and providing enjoyment to all associated with the club. Looking forward to seeing everyone again in Season 2018 when we all return to either play, coach, administer, support and watch this beautiful game of football at our great club Springwood United FC. Chris Gilchrist Chairman Springwood United Football Club

4 Springwood United Football Club Vice Chairman Report

2017 – Celebrating 50 Seasons in Football!!! I would firstly like to thank the entire team that make up both the Management and Football Committee at Springwood United Football Club for all your hard work, time and dedication in ensuring that all our members are able to enjoy football every weekend at Summerhayes Park. There is a significant amount of time and effort spent behind the scenes and as a player, coach and Committee Member, your support and dedication is very much appreciated. Thank you!! 2017 saw the launch our new kit for both our competition and non-competition teams. The club returned to a more traditional look to celebrate our 50th Season in Football. There was a great deal of hard work, time and effort dedicated by a number of people to ensure that our kit was delivered on time and ready for the players at the start of the season. I would like to thank those involved with a special shout out to our Chairman, Chris Gilchrist, Rob Davey from Pro Sports Group (PSG), John Kougious from Rebel Sport (formerly AMART Sports) Penrith and Sean Mitchell from Dreamtime Sports. All endured many phone calls and emails during the entire process that was 8 months in duration. Our kit launch was our first major event of the season. Close to 1000 members passed through the clubhouse doors to collect their shorts and socks and get their first glimpse of the new playing strip. I would like to thank every member of the Springwood United Committee who came together and made that day happen smoother than even we expected. A special thank you again to Chris Gilchrist with whom I worked endlessly in the build-up. Club Treasurer, Ciaran O’Flanagan who worked the numbers ensuring we had enough funds so members did not have to pay a cent, Rene Dempsey and Annette Harrop who timetabled the day ensuring it ran smoothly and Dale Wade-Ferrell for the use of the mannequins that displayed the new kit. It was a fantastic day! Not only did the Club go through a complete rebranding, we also celebrated our 50 th Season year with an open day for our junior members with a jumping castle and face painters and a formal dinner for our senior members both past and present. The 50th Season Dinner Celebration was a night that many of the members who attended will remember for years to come. I would like to thank Mathew Fisher who coordinated the event by volunteering a significant amount of his time to ensure the night was a success. I would also like to thank founding member George Alexander who, on the night, gave us all insight to his personal, along with his colleague’s contributions in establishing our wonderful Club. Their efforts recognised with a standing ovation at the conclusion of George’s speech by all in the room. It was a truly special moment. The new kit, events and celebrations could not happen without the support and contribution from our wonderful sponsors. Springwood United Football Club recognise and appreciate their support and on behalf of not only the club but the entire member base I would like to send a huge thankyou to all of our sponsors, who are credited at the rear of the Yearbook. 2017 marked a significant Club milestone. It has been a wonderful journey through the build-up and execution of celebrating 2017 the way we have. There were a number of football achievements throughout the season and the Club boasted a number of premiership winning teams. The Club was well represented on Grand Final Day with a few teams enjoying success on the day. Finally, I would like to thank all our members, Mums and Dads and players that have made this year one to remember. To our Coaches who volunteer their time, spending cold winter nights at Summerhayes teaching and mentoring our players, all our Managers who organise and prepare the teams for games week in week out, and finally to our playing group, who take the field each weekend representing our Club enjoying the sport known as the world game - the beautiful game, thank you!! Without you there is no Springwood United Football Club. Already looking forward to 2018!! Pete Dempsey Vice Chairman Springwood United Football Club

5 2017 End of Season Yearbook Treasurer Report Springwood wraps up another season in football stronger than the last. Income Registration income is better than last year mainly due to an improved mix of aged groups. Canteen revenue remains strong despite more wash out weekends this season than last. Sponsorship and merchandise income has been very strong with the very successful rollout of the 50th Season kit. Achievements The most notable achievement for the year, from my perspective, has been the successful rollout of the new (perhaps, some say old) 50th Season home and away kit. Ordering in excess of 1,000 shirts, shorts and socks for a wide range of sizes and shapes is no easy task and I have to commend Peter Dempsey for a truly brilliant job. The 50th Season dinner was another successful milestone in our clubs great history which was well attended, everyone had a great time and we raised over $2,000 for the Adam Crouch Foundation. A six metre fence for field 1 and two training goals were successfully constructed with 50% grant funding from the State Government. A new Point-of-Sale system has been installed to enable the club to have better visibility of our merchandise inventory and improve our record keeping. All up – for the 2017 season we have invested over $150,000 that will provide benefits to all our members for many years to come. Things to do The canteen refurbishment project and fencing on field 2 will be completed in the off-season. As we have a better forecasted closing cash position, we will be expanding the merchandise range and doing some minor improvements to the facilities. Appreciation I can never wrap up a report without expressing my gratitude to all the volunteers, whether they be committee members, parents or anybody willing to help out. Our success has always been built on the tireless efforts of many and I am extremely proud to be part of that success.

6 Springwood United Football Club President of Football Report There is one word to describe our 50th Season – brilliant! The Football and Management Committee having been working very hard over the past 18 months to ensure that 2017 would be a year that would fulfil the expectations of an important landmark in the Club’s history. To all my fellow committee members, thank you for your commitment during this period of time to make this season one which will live in our memories. For the third consecutive year our Club’s registration numbers remained steady at just over 1,000 players. This comprised of 88 teams; 54 non-competition (U5 – U11) and 34 competition (U12 – seniors). Our Club is the second largest in the Nepean Football Association. Although the size of a club is not necessarily an indication of its success, it is the performance of its teams which is a true indicator. Even though there were many things occurring away from the pitch to celebrate our 50th season, there was plenty occurring on the pitch which brought about success for many of our teams. 2016 FNSW State Fair Play Award U16 Division 3 Black – Coach: Alex Damon. Great result!!! Competition winners: U14G/1, IMM/2 White, AAW/1, AAW/4 White & O35/1 White Competition runners-up: AAW/4 Black, U12G/1, U14/2 Black, U17/1 Championship Finals winner: AAW/4 White, O35/1 White, U12G/1, U17/1 Championship Finals runners-up: AAW/1, AAW/4 Black, IMM/2 White, U12/1, U14/2 Black Champion of Champions qualifiers: U14G/1, AAW/1, O35/1 White. Congratulations to all these teams for your achievements this season! Women’s football is growing stronger not only in numbers but their success on the pitch as well. Our girls/women teams collectively won 3 competitions, 2 competition runners-up, 2 Championship Finals winners, 2 Championship Finals runners-up and 2 teams representing the Nepean Football Association in the end of season Champion of Champions. The Club continues to grow in the Intermediate Men’s competition football (U18/U21). This season we fielded 3 teams in this newly formed competition from 2016. The representation by our club in this competition will continue to grow next season as our U17s flow through. The representation in the O35s has now expanded to 4 teams with the club now being represented in the Champion of Champions. This also included another first with the Club victorious in the pre-season O35 Paul Bryden Cup. This season the Club accepted the invitation to be involved in the Western Sydney Wanderers Community Engagement Program; with 3 WSW players visiting our club – Mark Bridge, Jerrad Tyson and Steve Lustica. We hope this relationship can foster in years to come. The Club engaged in the Caltex Rewards Program; creating the opportunity to purchase equipment for the Club. And just when you thought Summerhayes Park was to become a ghost town during the warmer months, the NFA are running Summer Football at Summerhayes Park. As each season draws to a close it unfortunately sees the departure of valued members of the committee who have given up their time for the benefit of the Club. To those committee members I say thank you for your contribution. We hope that you remain in contact with the club and remember you are always welcome. Hope to see everyone in 2018. Sean Leehy President of Football Springwood United Football Club

2017 End of Season Yearbook 7 Coaching Coordinator Report 2017 has been a successful season for many of our coaches, managers, assistants and parent helpers who have toiled away to get teams match ready from week to week. From our small sided coaches to our senior teams, a huge congratulations to all who played in the finals series, won or narrowly lost their Grand Final and best of luck for the teams going on to Champion of Champions. It has been fantastic to see how much effort many coaches have put in to the preparation and delivery of their sessions from week to week and Summerhayes Park filled with laughing kids is quite a sight. Earlier in the season we held an information session to support our U12’s Transition into competition football. Speakers from external organisations and sponsors assisted in providing information to help coaches and managers navigate the more challenging phase of competition football and all that it entails. This program will be back in 2018 in order to prepare and support coaches and managers. This year we also successfully trialled goalkeeper skills sessions, run with great enthusiasm and skill by Trevor Pride and assisted by other senior clubmen. Weekly sessions were well attended by a variety of age groups and were well received by all. Thank you gentlemen for your efforts and I look forward to hitting the ground running in 2018 with an improved skills development program for all our budding goal keepers. The National Football Curriculum remains a great starting point for coaches new to the game and the club was pleased to see coaches complete over 48 Community Coaching Courses throughout the season with the club being 100% compliant with the NFA’s Division 1 coaching accreditation requirement. Small sided Coaches and Managers (U5-11’s) were represented a large portion of coaching education attendees and I hope that next years parents are willing to step up to the plate and assist in coaching and managing the teams of their children. A number of junior coaches took the plunge into team management this season and it was fantastic to see great networks of parents and assistant coaches helping them along. Congratulations to these coaches who set the benchmark for others to follow. A thank you also to a couple of coaches who took on teams in 2017 who had no direct affiliation with the team or individual players but who volunteered to take on the teams for the love of the game and the challenge of coaching football. I’ll look forward to seeing you guys back next season also. As spring and summer comes around there is a selection of courses available for coaches and managers, and I hope that members are proactive in taking advantage of these courses in the off season as they are not generally offered during the regular season. Keep an eye on the club’s website and Facebook pages for reminders of upcoming courses. If you are a senior or junior player (male or female) and you would like to investigate coaching a team in 2018, please don’t hesitate to contact the coaching coordinator for information on the appropriate path way. The club may be taking advantage of Western Sydney Wanderers coaching clinic’s and training lesson support in the near future, so stay tuned for more information. Once again thank you to all of the clubs volunteer coaches, managers and supporters for all your efforts this season and I look forward to getting feedback from you during the off season and seeing you sign up again to support our kids and players in 2018.

8 Springwood United Football Club MiniRoo / SSF Coordinator Report 2017 has been another successful year for Small Sided and Mod Football at Springwood United FC. As part of 50th season celebrations we took to the pitch in our brand new strip. The players look fantastic in their shirts! To kick off the 50th season we had our season opener which included a jumping castle, face painting and dress up characters. U5 Foxes (non-competition) The Foxes have had a fantastic football season. It has been a really exciting year for all of the team as this is their first year of playing “real” football. I am proud of every player in the team, not only did they all have a great time playing but they played the game in the spirit it should be played, having fun is the main goal! Ben was a super tackler always solid in defence. Alastair’s right foot seemed to know the way to the goal whenever he kicked the ball. James showed a great ability to use both feet when dribbling. Isaac had an uncanny ability to be in the right spot to block the ball. Evan was a super-fast runner with the ball. Oliver was great at putting a clearing pass up field whilst Jake was always able to use his tricks to get the ball away from the other team. I am very proud of the team and look forward to watching them develop their game in the future. A special thanks to Janette the super manager for keeping the team on track every week. Players: Benjamin Boys, Jake Buchanan-Judd, Alastair Johnson, James Kemp, Evan Machin, Oliver Paraiso, Isaac Reid. Coach: Chris Johnson Manager: Janette Machin

U5 Giraffes (non-competition) What an awesome year U5 Giraffes, thank you! The U5 competition is all about getting on the field, perhaps trying to mimic older siblings by finally being a part of your own team, having a run, having fun, making friends, hopefully getting a few chances at kicking the ball during play and with any luck kicking towards, and scoring, in the opponent’s goal! Our U5 Giraffes had never met prior to this season and had obviously never played before either and with so much rain early in the year we felt like we’d never get a chance to get out on the field and have a kick. Both Armen and Melissa have been so proud of our U5 Giraffes with the amazing effort displayed week in and week out demonstrating not only such awesome ball control but also such great sportsmanship and camaraderie on and off the field. We can’t wait to see how these little players develop over coming years! Players: Neave Fahy, Alyssa Giragossian, Lily Hather, Hunter Linacre, Jenna Rhodes, Jaiden Trinh. Coach: Armen Giragossian Manager: Melissa Hather

U6 Alligators (non-competition) With the 2017 season coming to a close the U6 Alligators tried their best and proved hard work can lead to great things, with the team striving to improve. Upon review of the season each of the team members have improved in many different ways, with Charlie having strong control and dribbling game, Darcy possessing a great passing and control game, Lachlan providing the team great defence and kicking game, Alfie providing great kicking and ability to chase down attackers, Felix strong improvement with passing and dribbling and Darius terrific defending and kicking game. I couldn’t possibly end without saying ‘thank you’ to our team’s parents. We really do appreciate the washing of the shirts, bringing of the fruit each week and positive influences to all of the team. I also want to say ‘thanks’ to the Alligators for turning up for training, come drizzle, cold nights or sunshine. As the old saying goes ‘it matters not if you win or lose, but how you play the game’ – it’s an honour and privilege to coach a fine group of boys who play the game so well. Players: Alfie Cook, Felix Kelly, Charlie Lyne, Darius Nanva, Lachlan Newport, Darcy Ryan. Coach: Simon Lyne Manager: Natacha Ryan

U6 Bears (non-competition) The U6 Bears have had another great season out on the field, developing their skills and learning to work together as a team. Passing, tackling and general ball skills have all improved. We have welcomed two new members, who continue the Bears spirit of giving it a go and maintaining a positive energy. Thank you to all the players, parents and the Club for your ongoing support. Players: Jonathan Bradshaw, Michael Broadhead, Jasper Engelhard, Luke Gabriel, Rhys Hale, Bronson Mills, Dexter Pachinger. Coach: David Hicks Manager: Michelle Engelhard

U6 Dingoes (non-competition) For a team who walked in and found each other and then grew as the weeks progressed to game day. The Dingoes have made such wonderful progress as the season has developed individually and as a team. No one had played before so there was lots to learn and enjoy, there was some interesting ball skills, running in all directions, lots of chatting and laughing on the field and from the side line. With the amazing guidance, direction, patience and repetition from the coach there has been new skills, team work, game awareness and some interesting performances. The coach has done an incredible job with an endless amount of patience and has enjoyed being on the field supporting each of the players to grow and shine. The support crew on the side line have been very helpful with magic water, supply of oranges, relaxed approach to game outcomes and very supportive of each of the children. It has been an enjoyable season of cheering, laughter and encouragement of ball skills and dancing routines. Page 11 of 60

Players: Noah Cummins, Edie Jensen, Alfie Lehn, Alexander Marks, Alex Scanlon, Cade Smith. Coach: Todd Lehn Manager: Stephanie Ford

U6 Emus (non-competition) The under 6 Emus have had a great season with a new team of friends turning up each week to participate and learn new skills. Lilly and Jeramiah played football for the first time this year and tried consistently hard throughout the season to learn various new skills. Levi, Callum, Myles and Noah enjoyed their second year of football and developed new skills throughout the season. It has been a pleasure to coach this fantastic group of kids this year and we hope their love of football continues next season. Players: Noah Beer-Estall, Lilly Chalice, Levi Friedland-Jaccoud, Callum Gibbons, Myles Golby, Jeramiah Horner. Coaches: Rod and Deana Gibbons Manager: Amy Golby

U6 Foxes (non-competition) We are very proud of all our kids this season. Starting from nothing at Muster Day they have had a lot of fun and learned what it means to be teammates. In turn, they have come to enjoy playing football and formed friendships that will last for years to come. We look forward to next season and watching their skills continue to develop. Players: Miles Barker, Austin Brown, Caitlin Brown, Charlotte Brown, Lachlan Keenan, Daniel Sterling- Levis, Elliot Wisman Santamaria. Coach: Michael Wisman Manager: Lynn Nielson

U6 Giraffes (non-competition) Well done boys! The U6 Giraffes had a great year. As the year progressed, the boys got more involved in each game and really stood up for themselves in attack and defence and by the end of the year there was a stronger focus from each player on where they should be and what they should be doing. Alex was full of energy and showed great skill all year. He was our main goal-scorer, often running around all players on the other team to score a goal. He was our everywhere man. Jared improved a lot during the year and by the end he was defending stubbornly and moving forward to contest for the ball. He always played with a smile on his face. Rupert had lots of energy as he ran around the field and was often in the midst of a huddle having a real go at the ball. Like Jared there was often a smile and a laugh on his face as he played. Max defended solidly and saved many a goal, often accompanied by a spectacular dive or fall. He really toughened up later in the year in how he bounced back from knocks and how he attacked the ball. Benjamin was increasingly willing to join into the play as the year progressed and he showed good power in his kicks, especially from restarts. Aiden improved a lot this year and developed into one of our most assertive players. There was no stepping back with Aiden and it often seemed the tougher the group of players he had to get past, the harder he would run at them. Thanks all you Giraffes for a memorable year and thanks to all the parents! Your support for the whole team, not just your own your kid, made for an enjoyable year. Players: Alex Anderson, Jared Barendrecht, Rupert Dickens, Max Fryer, Benjamin Hawkes, Aiden Lloyd-Cartwright. Coaches: Ian Fryer and John Dickens Manager: Sharon Fryer

U6 Tigers (non-competition) A team of 6 friends, some new, some old. All starting school together in amazingly the same class while also enjoying their Saturday mornings playing sport together. The Tigers had a great 2017 season. In the beginning some of our new players were a little lost, but their friends willingly helped them learn the game. By the end of the season everyone was tackling, passing and if not scoring a goal themselves, positively supporting those who did. The Tigers became a great little unit by the end of the season. Well done to you all, it was a pleasure to watch you grow over the season. Players: Jimmy Bowman, Amelia Hughes, Lochie Jackson, Michael Killeen, Justin Scanlon, Leo Zeballos. Coach: Martin Zeballos Manager: Kerrie Killeen

U7 Bears (non-competition) Another wonderful year of football by the Bears! Every week the Bears ran onto the field and played with energy, fun, fairness and enthusiasm. They were fantastic to watch as their skills and love for the game continued to grow as evidenced by the cracking goals and gorgeous smiles that all the Mama and Papa bears got to enjoy each Saturday morning. Training sessions were another great place to be, and the learning and listening displayed by the Bears was evident the next day on the field. U7 Dingoes (non-competition) The U7 Dingoes have had a fabulous first season of football and it has been wonderful to see the team of five build friendships, gain an appreciation of the sport and learn the skills of the game. The team were fortunate enough to attend the Arsenal v Sydney FC event at Sydney Olympic Park. The boys represented the club and their families beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed their moment out on the big pitch. With great momentum from our first season together, we look forward to the summer competition and plenty of football seasons to come! Players: Thomas Harris, Abel Howell, Eli Johnson, Caleb Paine-Burke, Logan Rintoul. Coach: Kristin Burke Manager: Nicole Cunningham

U7 Emus (non-competition) We came together as a group of individuals with very little or zero experience in the game. With levels of skills and confidence that match. We finish the year as a team of winners (despite not a huge amount of wins) with newly developed skills, ability and a huge amount of courage and bravery. A lot of fun was had, especially game time on training nights. The foundations have now hopefully been set for those who choose to play the game further. Thank you to the parents for their help, support, washing of shirts, oranges etc. Players: Riley Blight, Riley Cooper, Nicholas Down, Flynn Janecki, Mia-Rose Jones, Oscar Odell, Aidan Seisun. 14 Springwood United Football Club U7 Foxes (non-competition) This year we merged two teams together from last year to make the Foxes. Instantly the kids all got on and worked together to develop a good strong team. Throughout the year we focussed on passing in our training sessions and it paid off as we had some good fast paced competitive games where our skills shined through. We look forward to seeing these skills develop further next year as we progress to the bigger fields. Thanks to the players for their continued efforts throughout the year, the parents, supporters and SUFC for their continued support. We look forward to seeing all the kids grow and develop in the coming seasons. Players: Oscar Doyle, Noah Francia, Koby Morgan, Zach Morgan, Taro Pickham, Luke Pospischil, Layla Sawyer. Coach: Ciaran Doyle Manager: Jessica Doyle

U7 Iguanas (non-competition) We have just completed another cracking year for the Iguanas, with all of the boys coming right out of their shells and coming together as a team. The boys have really matured and have shown a greater understanding of the rules of the game and skill-set required in the game. Lots of passing, defending, shooting and running happened throughout the season, allowing the mighty Iguanas to win lots of games and achieve great success. Tyson became a lot more confident this year, with his dribbling and goal-scoring skills really surfacing and him always being there to set up goals. Connor, the goal- scoring machine, with the devastating left boot, that can score from anywhere on the field! Ryan also grew in confidence this season, with a few goals up his belt, and a big smile on his face! Eli, the newest member of our team, really was a great asset, with his blistering speed and enthusiasm to get in there and have a go. Ashton had a wonderful season, scoring multiple goals, with lots of guts to never be shy and have a go! Oliver, the speedy devil, with his specialty ‘heel kicks’ and big boots up the field, also grew in confidence throughout the season. What a wonderful season we had, with an awesome group of families. It’s been great to see them come so far from the team that they were in the Under 5‘s. A big thank you to the mighty Coach John for all of your dedication and hard work this year. Go Iguanas!!!!! Players: Ryan Andrews, Ashton Danks, Connor Leahey, Eli Schroeder, Oliver Stevens, Tyson Verriere. Coach: John Leahey Manager: Nathan Stevens

U7 Lions (non-competition) This season was the second season that the Lions were together as a full team. 4 of the boys have now been together for 3 years. All the boys started the season a little taller, a little faster and a lot cheekier. Jude showed his skills from his left foot and scored plenty of goals during the year. He particularly liked being physical to muscle the opponents off the ball. Jack started the season with new skills learnt off his big brother and scored plenty of long range and short range goals. Timmy was fast on his feet and loved running back to save goals. He showed good ball control when he slowed down with the ball at his feet. Liam showed up every week with a solid performance in the forward and back lines. Liam is another boy who likes to get physical when scoring or saving goals. Asher got his first goal this year which he was really excited about. I think the adults were more excited than the kids. Uly also produced some moments of brilliance with goals late in the season and some solid kicks in defence. Nicholas quite liked the fullback position and saving goals, but also had his fair share of shots and goals. All the boys developed in their own unique ways throughout the year with confidence, skill and football knowledge. Training was always a blast with the boys telling stories, jokes and showing their new

2017 End of Season Yearbook 15 football tricks. A quick game of dodge ball at the end of each training session was fun, except for the odd head shot and a few following tears. Players: Jude Alderton, Liam Costigan, Asher Kaminski, Nicholas Koulouris, Ulysses Legrand, Timothy Peters, Jack Sherriff. Coach: Michael Alderton Manager: Jacqui Sherriff

U7 Monkeys (non-competition) Coming together for our first season as a team, and for some boys their first season ever playing football, these little Monkeys have improved in leaps and bounds! Fantastic bunch of kids who always got along and listened and were enthusiastic which made great it a pleasure to coach. U7 Wolves (non-competition) Being our last year on the small sided fields, games have been fast paced, with many of the kids possessing the power and skill to cover the length of the field with ease. Our Wolves have had some healthy competition with a number of teams this year which has made for some very entertaining games. Our players continue to develop better game awareness, with our focus on passing and positioning. We look forward to seeing the kids develop these skills further on the larger field next year. As always, thank you to the Wolves for their commitment to their football and their team mates and to the parents, supporters and Springwood United for continuing to provide a great atmosphere and environment for our kids to flourish. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 17 U8 Black (non-competition) The Under 8 Blacks have had a brilliant season, with every player continuing to grow from strength to strength in every way. Our boys really took to the larger field and team, with improved positioning and passing. They worked extremely well as a team to score multiple goals each week. Liam, our happy team member, loves being part of the action. He has a terrific boot on him which changes the course of the game. Liam’s strength is fully committing to every challenge and digging deep for those game changing moments. Nathan is skilful at intercepting the opposition’s defenders, and getting into a strike position on goal. His speed and sprint power beats the opposition in head-to-head combat. Hayden makes a fantastic goalie and defender. He is also a great attacking player who can change the direction of the game! His ball control is magnifique, as he leaves the opposition in his wake. Lucas is our goal scoring wizard. He can shoot from anywhere to kick the ball in the net! He cuts through the opposition consistently and effortlessly to orchestrate opportunities for the team! Thomas is always set to surprise! Scoring goals or demonstrating some serious football theatrics, Thomas entertains us all. The ultimate play maker, who gives the whole team a lift each time he runs on the field. A tour-de-force in the strike zone. Stay out of Flynn’s way! He is our juggernaut pounding up and down the field, determined as ever! With a focus on the goal, he relentlessly searches the defence looking for weaknesses. Aden has become an attacking player, consistently placing himself in the thick of the action. He is always improving, pushing through the pain barrier with his never-say-die attitude! Awesome!! James relentlessly harasses the opposition for the ball, puts them under pressure and creates opportunities for the team. He is there for all the crunch moments – literally! He never misses an opportunity to pass to his team mates! Robbie is always an asset on the field. He is the glue that holds the defence together, allowing the Blacks to consistently push forward. Robbie’s talent in goal kept the score down for the opposition. When facing the strongest competition, Robbie is at his best protecting the goal. Toby’s strength is dominating the midfield, and keeping the ball in the opposition’s half for every minute of play. Toby continually chases down the ball with impressive speed and intent. The level of enjoyment of the game is huge and the players love training, love playing and enjoy each other’s company. Who could ask for more? A huge thank you to our coach Robert, who always plans challenging and fun training sessions which develop our skills! Thank you also to our Managers, Louise and Jayson, the dynamic duo and our reliable referee Tony!! Players: Liam Boys, Nathan Broadhead, Hayden Chapman, Lucas Chapman, Thomas Dawson, Flynn Engelhard, Aden Hather, James Magner, Robbie Pigram, Toby Roediger. Coach: Robert Pigram Managers: Louise and Jayson Chapman

U8 Blue (non-competition) At the start of the season each player worked hard to demonstrate their individual commitment to team work and to attend as many training sessions as possible. This foundation was crucial to improving the team’s set plays and passing skills which proved the difference in most matches as the season progressed. It was a testament to the Coach’s skills, that each of the players learnt to hold and play their positions, which gave the Blues an advantage in most games. The U8 Blues were able to blend an enviable mix of fun and team spirit during the season, to ensure they finished on a high, and confident in their new skills to progress in the sport next year. Players: Edward Brown, Micha Elia, Mariella Hill, John Lau, Kate McIlveen, Oliver Musgrave, James Rafter, Jack Ralphs, Joshua Sach, Samuel Taylor, Jaiden Marsh. Coach: Andrew Elia Manager: Sean Lau

18 Springwood United Football Club U8 Green (non-competition) The move to a larger field meant the boys needed to develop lots of new skills this season. Among these were goal keeping, throw ins, corner kicks and a greater need for positional play. The whole team stepped up to the challenges and have visibly increased their skills in all areas. Everyone had a turn in goals, and some boys showed a lot of talent for the new position. The boys are developing a better awareness of their position on the field to support the player with the ball and for a more effective defence. A preference for attack or defence is starting to show in most of the boys; however, I am happy to say that the boys rarely complained about the position they were asked to play during each match. I am very proud of how the boys listen, take on challenges and try new things, and I hope that our fantastic supportive parents and family members are proud too. Thank you to all the club volunteers, parents, families, and players for a great season. I look forward to coaching again next year! Players: Joshua Benaud, Owen Bishop, Max Briggs, Oliver Cusack, Brodie Dufty, Ryan Ferguson, Xavier Johnson, Hugo Lewczak, Joel Machin, Talon Molony, and Matthew Watson. Coach: Brendan Cusack Manager: Jayden Molony

U8 Grey (non-competition) What a season the U8 Springwood Grey’s had in 2017. We welcomed a number of new players to the beautiful game of Football. The boys mixed well with the seasoned professionals of the former U7 Raccoons to combine as team who were there and played for each other. As a coach I was proud of the boy’s performance, and attitude of never giving up. The team always played the game in the right spirit with a smile on their face and doing the club proud. All the boys developed throughout the season, with the introduction of Goalkeepers, the bigger fields and having a better understanding of positions and their roles. Amy and I would like to thank the parents for the support provided from cheering on the sidelines to standing out in the cold on those training nights and helping out where possible. Bring on the 2018 season!! Players: Ethan Banks, Ben Cassidy, Owen Croft, Cooper Donohue, Cooper Golby, Harrison Iles, Harvey Jones, Samuel Lister, Jose Ramires, Tyson Ramires, Tom Withers. U8 Orange (non-competition) What a fantastic year for our U8 Orange team. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the extra space of the “big field” and having a turn at being goalie! The boys worked hard at training and developed their skills and team work over the season with lots of goals scored by all. A big thanks to all the boys for their efforts and making Saturdays such a joy! Thanks also to the parents, grandparents and friends who cheered from the sidelines, washed jerseys, supplied oranges and helped out with canteen and BBQ duty. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 19 Moving to a bigger field meant the opportunity for longer passes and the introduction of the position of goal keeper. Brydan showed his ability to utilize the entire fields and at times with lighting speed leaving in his wake the team’s opponents. Luke improved greatly in both his defence and attack skills while developing his skills as a goal keeper. Liam likewise increased his ability to pass as well as defending and clearing the ball away from his own goal. Both Cisco and Lachlan have demonstrated fantastic defending skills as well as passing the ball long distances. Tahj has developed his ability as a team player, passing the ball, attacking the opposition goal and defending his own. Hugo has shown his defending skills while furthering ball passing skills to his fellow team members. Alex has been developing his skills in passing the ball, attacking the opposition goal and defending his own. Daniel has had a chance to develop his goal keeping skills while improving his skills in passing, defending and attacking. Eleanor has an opportunity to show us her skills in attacking the opposition goal, defending her own goal as well as passing the ball to her team mates. Gabriella has demonstrated attacking skills in all areas of the field and as well as being a team player and providing encouragement to her fellow team members. The commitment of the parents (and families) in helping out and turning up each week is very much appreciated including their willingness to assist at the BBQ & canteen together with washing the team shirts. At the beginning of the season the parents of U8 Purple where asked to bring their chair, coffee and sense of humour to each game, they did so along with more which included their encouragement and friendship, thank you. U8 Red (non-competition) Congratulations to the U8 Red Springwood Team for an amazing season of football. Thanks to our skilled and dedicated coach Tony, the girls had so much fun playing with friends and developing football skills at the same time. The enthusiasm of the team was equally matched by the sideline encouragement of the parents & families of the players, a very vocal crowd but always so positive and supportive. Even at this young age it’s a challenge for a female team to be playing in a mixed/male dominated comp but nothing could bring the girls undone. Their love for football and each other are all that matters to them. They are so oblivious at how incredible they are as football players. It is a pleasure to watch their journey as young sporting women. Well done, Ella, Bella, Issy, Zoe, Daisy, Lexie, Fergo, Lyla, Mads, Elysia & Seda (and Coach Tony), hope to see you all next season. Players: Seda Amputch, Elysia Burchall, Madalynn Cooper, Lyla Douglas, Isabella Ferguson, Lexie Firth, Daisy Haythornthwaite, Zoe Mein, Isobel Rowntree, Annabella Sciberras, Daniella Stanley. Coach: Tony Firth Manager: Rachael Stanley

U8 White (non-competition) The Under 8’s White team began as the merge of two U7 teams, and the boys had a fun season this year growing both in their friendships and football skills. Training on a Thursday night was full of skill development, fun activities, and mini games. Saturday games were full of wins, losses, goals, enthusiastic parents and the opportunity for the boys to have a go at all positions on the field. It was great to see the team growing over the season in their individual skills, understanding and holding positions on the field and even passing to each other! Thanks to all the parents for their friendly support, to John and Daryl for filling in at training several times each, and particularly to Gillian for her consistent effort managing the team and her organisational genius. I look forward to staying involved in the coming years. Players: Reuben Barendrecht, Caeden Brown, Archie Dickens, Jacob Gilchrist, Blake Gough, Josiah Hawkins, Eli Jenner, Liam Van Leerdam, Lucas Winfield, Joshua Wright. U9 Black (non-competition) Thank you to all the boys and girl who have made up the Under 9 Black Football team for 2017. Ava and Riley joined our great little team from past seasons and we have all developed our skills and teamwork during this season. Thanks to Mandy for stepping up and managing and all the parents who have been so supportive throughout the season, especially Steve who has coached and refereed for us. Players have focussed on learning to play in positions, which can be challenging at times and passing to help each other score some great goals! Each player has started to find their preferred positions, including a few that have enjoyed developing their goal keeping skills. We might find ourselves short on fullbacks at times but every game has been exciting to watch. The growth and development of the team over the last few seasons makes it all worthwhile! Looking forward to bigger and better things in 2018. Players: Seth Abel. Riley Basic, Joshua Budd, William Ford, Max Leach, Hugh O'Connor, Max Perkovic, Alex Renneberg, Ava Seymour, Thomas Ward. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 21 U9 Blue (non-competition) The 2017 season was a fantastic year for the U9 Blues. In their second year of Mod Football, it was enjoyable watching the boys build on what they had learnt the year before. At the start of the season, positional awareness, passing and possession was the focus areas and as the season developed, the boys started to play some wonderful football. All the boys displayed a commitment to learn and develop and work together as a team. They have truly been a pleasure to coach and I would like to thank each and every one of them for a wonderful season. Many thanks to Mick for organising the team each week, running the subs and assisting during training sessions throughout the year. To Craig for refereeing our games every week – very much appreciated!! To Nathan, Brian and Chris who assisted when Mick could not be there – thank you (there are 2 more players on the field next year boys and that substitute spreadsheet will have another layer of complexity)! Finally, a huge thank you to the wonderful group of parents and supporters who were there to cheer on the boys each week. The support you showed the boys throughout the year is greatly appreciated. Players: Cameron Dempsey, Macaulay Down, William Hansen, Kayden Jeffers, Tom Larkin, Jack Leahey, Christopher Oliver, Harrison Stevens, Lachlan Todd. Coach: Pete Dempsey Manager: Mick Down

U9 Green (non-competition) 2017 has been one of our boys most successful yet, with no losses for the entire season. Training this year has been focused on working together as a team and increasing the boy’s endurance so they can maintain strength while on the field. They are an awesome bunch of boys and as a team, have the perfect balance of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, competitiveness and most importantly, love of the game. Well done boys, I wonder what 2018 will bring? A quick mention also to our parents and family who cheer week after week on the sidelines, and helping at training and games whenever needed, we really appreciate it. Players: Liam Clink, Jai Drew, Lachlan Hurley, Alexander Kerkham, Archie Livingston, Ben Robinson, Bailey Rutten, Riley Sinclair, Ryan Tosatto, Hamish Weir. Coach: Craig Weir Manager: Charlie Tosatto

U9 Grey (non-competition) What a great year it's been! Although the beginning of the season was disrupted by quite a lot of wet weather the team still had a great year and improved with every week. We are a brand-new team who have never played together before and some have never played football in a team either. I’m really proud of how the team played and competed each week. Each player contributed 100% effort to the team and they all played well together, transferring what was learnt during training to match day which was especially pleasing to see. You should all be proud of yourselves and I would like to personally thank you for an enjoyable year. I would also like to thank the mums and dads who supported not only their child but the team each week by cheering and encouraging them from the sideline. Thanks to Melissa Wiggins for managing the team and organising the communications when needed. Also, thanks to Matt Ryan for taking the role of caretaker coach while I was away on holiday and with his assistance at training and on game day. On a final note, thanks again to the players for a fun season. You all regularly turned up and listened…. Most of the time! Players: Georgia Brown, Connaugh Dane, Nathan Keith, Preston Mamo, Francis Marks, Charlie Ryan, Emmason Ryan, Zackaria Siddiqi, Chloe Sutton. Coach: Robin Sutton Manager: Melissa Wiggins

22 Springwood United Football Club U9 Maroon (non-competition) We've been lucky enough to coach and manage our group of players for the past few seasons. This has been another season of great improvement from all players. Each individual player has increased their ball skills from fancy footwork to perfect passing and cool control under pressure. The Maroons lift with tougher opponents. Tenacity and teamwork come together to create exciting games and close matches. While each player’s individual style was allowed to shine, they naturally played their preferred positon on the field and characteristic traits became a weapon against the opposition. Guarding goal keepers and diligent defenders limited the hits we took, while the midfielder’s mayhem set up many opportunities for the single minded strikers to send a ball straight to the back of the net. The team have all shown greater maturity this year and have really started to understand the tactics and strategy that are part of the game. This is reflected in the fact that all the team understand the importance of sticking to their designated positions on the pitch and more importantly the responsibility that goes with playing in that position. But most important of all is that we had a fun season and always played in the spirit of the game. Support from the sidelines came in droves, and we look forward to working together again next season! Players: Gabe Devine, Leonie Ellis, Ewan Leslie, Matthew Minard, Jacob Pospischil, Christian Ramos- McNeil, Mia Rodemark, Jamie Sharp, Oli Trinh, Blake Weinert. U9 Orange (non-competition) What a great season. The boys trained hard learning the fundamentals of the game passing, shooting and some more advanced training drills, field play, positioning and conditioning exercises. They turned up each week when it was cold for training and played their hearts out each weekend. It has been a pleasure to coach the boys. The Coach and Manager would like to say thank you to each player, Bowen, Ryan, Sam, Fred, Ben, Cooper, Aadyn, Malakai, Toby and Christian – thank you boys keep on kicking. Thank you to the Manager John for his passion on the side line and to the parents, thank you for transporting John Harrison and the boys to their games and for your sideline passion we all enjoyed it. Players: Bowen Batchelor, Ryan Brown, Liam Dale, Benjamin Harrison, Cooper Henderson, Aadyn Hoare, Malakai Keyes, Tobias Ritchie, Christian Sophokleous, Samuel Wright Coach: Christian Batchelor Manager: John Harrison

U9 Red (non-competition) As is so often the case when I coach kids sporting teams, I end up feeling like I have received so much more then they have out of the experience. This was certainly the case in 2017 as the coach of the U9 Reds. They have been a joy to watch as they competed each week with great determination and sportsmanship. The player’s improvement throughout the season was outstanding. I have been particularly pleased with their defensive play and as the season progressed, their positional play. I think that they have all learnt that scoring goals is a lot easier when they stay in their positions. Even their listening skills have improved. The team was held together by our ever reliable manager Linda. On behalf of the team, thank you. The team also thanks Donut King Winmalee and owners Diana and Mick Camilleri for their ongoing support and incentives for our player of the week. Finally, thank you the parents of U9 Red for contributing to such a positive and enjoyable atmosphere at training and on game day. Players: Annalise Blattman, Leo Borg, Cooper Brown, Zac Carr, Amelia Crouch, Noah Edwards, Lachlan Konwerski, Kiahna Koutsonikolis, Olivia Prior, Patrick Smith. Coach: Heath Borg Manager: Linda Byrne Page 23 of 60

2017 End of Season Yearbook 23 U9 Yellow (non-competition) What a great year for the U9 Yellows! Our players have started to find their favourite positions on the field leading to confidence in their roles. Family and friends have enjoyed watching the improvements made in the skills each week and sharing in the little victories of a great tackle, a big kick, a perfect pass and of course a goal scored or saved. The whole team has shown a great attitude to playing hard and encouraging each other in both a win or a loss and are already looking forward to next year. Players: Phoenix Andrews, Lainey Beames, Jack Brown, Edward Carr, Quinn Fryer, Matthew Hawkes, Felix Hurley, Joseph Jacob, Angus Laws, Nora Pilawa, Micah Roberts. Coach: Luke Roberts Manager: Lisa Carr

U10 Black (non-competition) It was a terrific year the U10 Blacks. Being the second year as a team for the majority of the players, their cohesiveness and ability to control and move the ball down the field and into the goal ensured they dominated their division. We saw massive improvements from our Blacks with Oliver stepping up in his defensive kicking, Abbey’s fearless defensive tactics and passing and Hamish’s relentless determination. We also welcomed Denzel to the team who showed great enthusiasm and determination. The midfield players lived up to the positions expectations providing support at a moment’s notice with speed and skill. Zac is an excellent player who, this year, confidently added Midfielder to his strong defence and goal keeping skills. New to the team and in his first year playing, Taylor displayed the ability to be seemingly everywhere at once proving to be a quick and accurate player. Also new to the team, Zane, showed a great skill and very valuable in goals, as well as defence and midfield. Flynn excelled in the goal keeping position, taking many great saves as well as re-asserting himself as a confident all-rounder. Tyler displayed excellent pace in his forward and wing positions, with strong and accurate crossing and corner taking abilities. Bailey played excellent at positioning himself in a striking position in time with his teammates to hit the goals. Jacob added striker to his skill set this year complimenting his all-round speed and ability. All players should be very proud of their exceptional performance this season. We would like to thank all players and parents for a great 2017. Players: Flynn Alderton, Zane Alderton, Abbey Gibbs, Oliver Gili, Tyler Gray, Zachery Jenner, Jacob Kelly, Taylor Mason, Hamish Milligan, Bailey Stevens, Denzel Wallace. Coach: Brett Stevens Manager: Ashleigh Phelan

U10 Blue (non-competition) The U10 Blues enjoyed another successful season in 2017 scoring 93 goals and only conceding 23, seeing them winning all but 2 games and drawing 2 others. A notable mention to our Golden Boot for 2017 - Jeremy Taylor scoring 24 goals off his left boot, much to the frustration of our weekly opposition. The boys contributed in their own way all season long, ensuring all-round team performances from week to week. Great passing, game vision and exceptional finishing were the highlights of most of our games, which were well attended by friends and family. Most of these boys have played together for many years and as they move towards grading and competition football in the next few seasons I wish them all the very best. It has been a great pleasure of mine coaching you through these developmental years and I hope that besides some basic skills and techniques, that I have instilled in you a love of this great game. I wish you all the very best for your future footballing journey’s and look forward to meeting up and coaching some of you again in future years.

U10 Green (non-competition) 2017 brought together an evenly mixed crew of 6 boys and 6 girls, mostly familiar faces with a couple of new signings. I give credit to all of the kids for performing admirably in what turned out to be a very tough competition. I take my hat off to the 4 volunteer goalkeepers who kept putting their hands up week in, week out knowing that their services would be in high demand. To the girls who were as competitive as usual and once again were the subject of such positive feedback from the opposition coaches. To my long-standing performers who helped form the spine of the team in defence, midfield and attack, you all know who you are. A special thank you to my parent network for your undying enthusiasm and support. Finally, thank you to Kate and Andrea for your assistance and organisation throughout. Players: Montana Barry, Ysobel Chalice, William Cusack, Brendan Golby, Jessica Gomez, William Jones, William Lister, Finn McCaffery, Taya Moore, Alexis Owen, Jack Reynolds, Mia Watson. Coach: Glen McCaffrey Manager: Kate Moore and Andrea Chalice

U10 Maroon (non-competition) The team underwent a few changes welcoming three new players in 2017 – Tom, Mitch and Peter. All quickly adapted into the team structure. The boys continued to develop well preparing for grading next year. Positional play, passing and team work have been a key focus. Games against other Springwood United teams have been the highlight with some amazing skills and close competition the standard between the teams with great encouragement from both team’s supporters. Jordy has always been dangerous and quick when given any space. James C scored some brilliant goals from the corner kicks as well as being dangerous from distance. Jimmy was always dangerous with the ball and thwarted many attacks with solid defence. Tom has improved significantly and has energy to burn as he covers the field. Mitch has likewise improved and has been dangerous at the front. Macklin continues to provide quality ball and powerful strikes with his natural left foot. Oscar can finish a goal with skill while backing it up with skills as the goalkeeper. Peter has fitted in to the team like he has played with the boys for seasons and has been strong across the park. Lucas has been strong as striker while thriving in his natural position in the backs and Ollie shows some amazing skills backed by delivering quality ball and providing great finishing. We need to call out and thank our super sub Ethan Banks who has filled in against boys much bigger as we have only had 1 sub all season. He plays far above his weight and his brother I am sure hasn’t stopped hearing about the week he scored. Thanks to all the parents – positive energy, great support and always a volunteer for the shirts. Thanks also to Nick for organising all of us and hoping all the boys come back next year. Players: Jordan Banks, James Croucher, James Hinchliff, Thomas Iskov, Mitchell Lonergan, Macklin Miall, Oscar Mills, Peter Rheinberger, Lucas Sawyer, Oliver Scurr. Coach: Greg Sawyer Manager: Nicholas Miall

U10 Orange (non-competition) Congratulations to the Under 10 Orange for a great season of football. There were big wins, big losses and even bigger personalities. New players joined an existing team this year and brought with them new skills, fun and enthusiasm. They gelled nicely with the grit and determination of the group formerly known as Lions. Owen joined our team as a goal scoring champion, Max continued to set up goals and strike, Ayden defended like a demon and improved his attack, Hamish was a great mid-fielder and defender, Alex played mid field with his determined strike, Rory increased his passing, team playing and defending, Madi was a strong attacker and defender, Miles attacked the opposition goals and had a fierce boot, Page 25 of 60

2017 End of Season Yearbook 25 Trinity supported her team and improved her dribbling and passing skills- she never gave up, Dillon improved his skills in defence and was adetermined player, Klara was a strong defender and unbelievable goal keeper, Lochlan saved the day on many occasions with his attack and defence. Thanks to the parents and families who continue to show up and support Coach Steve in cold, wind and tantrums. Your friendship and commitment is always appreciated. A big thank you to Assistant Coach Marty, your umpiring and fitness improved throughout the season resulting in a win in the final running race. Well done team, you should all be very proud of your season. The fun, laughs and friendship will stay with you always. Players: Owen Adorini, Maximus Anderson, Ayden Balson, Hamish Bernays, Alexander Billiards, Rory Cole, Madison Jenkins, Miles Latham, Trinity Power, Dillon Slevin, Klara Trinajstic, Lochlan Wilkins, Coach: Steven Anderson Manager: Alena Anderson

U10 Purple (non-competition) What a great year and a fantastic team. Our boys worked so hard and came together so well as team. We were fortunate to have 2 coaches who worked beautifully together to guide the boys in training and in games. These 2 young men were there when they were needed, showed dedication and an endless supply of energy to help the boys this season. Thank you both. I am so proud of the boys, the support they offered each other and the sense of team that they shared was fantastic. They were not just a team but a group of great mates that shared a passion for football and fun. The boys worked together well supported by the coaches and fantastic parents who were there to cheer them on and support the team as whole. Most of the team had played together previously and we were joined this year by Anthony who played like he’d been with us for years. Thank you boys for such a wonderful season and I look forward to seeing you all next year. Players: Angus Briggs, Justin Brooker, Caelum Hatch, Ethan Hughes, Jack Mohring, Quinn Power, Riley Power, Zac Stanley, William Taylor, Anthony Vittozzi. U10 Red (non-competition) Akin to a Wanderers rebuild, the off season heralded the arrival of a flood of major new talent. Incentivising the team to goal scoring heights added to Toller Cave's formidable defensive prowess. A calming presence in defence Angus George excited with hazy mazy dribbling forays up the wings. Lachlan Brown's outstanding all round skills in reading the game, scoring and passing produced some of the best football of the season. The Red's midfield dominance was assured thanks to Liam Moir's generous running and quick witted one-twos with team mates. Focused running on and off the ball from Will Crighton coupled with a mighty right boot kept opposition goalies busy picking the ball out of the net. Caleb Goman at never less than full throttle impressed with incisive tackling, well taken goal scoring and excellent short passing. Intelligent use of space, a classy first touch and killer finish were the hallmarks of Robson Cole's impressive debut with the Reds. Another high octane season from Rhett Goman, whose towering presence and team commitment convinced in any position he played. Jack Savage's sure footed tackling and decisive clearances complemented Benji Synnott's hustle bustle hard press and run game in the combative heart of midfield. Tom Grodzicki's all-round quality was never more evident than when at full stretch in mid-air he pulled off an astounding one handed save in a nail biting end of season victory against arch rival's Blue Mountains Reds at Knapsack Oval. Players: Lachlan Brown, Toller Cave, Robson Cole, Will Crighton, Angus George, Caleb Goman, Rhett Goman, Thomas Grodzicki, Liam Moir, Jack Savage, Benji Synnott. 26 Springwood United Football Club U10 White (non-competition) This is the third year that the bulk of the team has played together and now as the boys move on to more senior levels and grading, it is worth reflecting on their evolution. They are now a real team. Three years ago, insects on the ground were just as interesting as a football, however, the boys are all professionals in the making. The new additions to the team integrated seamlessly and all stepped up and all the boys played in a spirit that made watching them enjoyable and a highlight of the week. With an eye to grading and future years, each player found their niche and excelled. The team play and passing was exceptional and the defenders were rock solid, rarely letting forwards get behind them. The team only lost one game for the year and our coach, Eduardo Campaner must take the credit for the development of each and every one of them. Next year is a new adventure but these boys are well prepared for the real competition. Good luck and we thank all the parents for helping to make this a great 2017. It is the end of an era for this group, but they will stay great friends into the future. Players: Beau Atkins, Nikola Barac, Angus Byrne, Max Campaner, Hugh Driver, Alexander Hovelmann, Felix Mann, Ashton McLeod, Brendan McMaster, William Mudge, Oliver Neill, Lachlan Spencer, Seth Weston-Cole. Coach: Eduardo Campaner Manager: Adele Reid

U11/1 (non-competition) As Coach I quickly realized how good a team I had, the group of players I was given soon became a team full of potential, we had trouble finding a goalkeeper yet we still had an incredible season with only 1 defeat and 2 draws and the rest we won comfortably. Next season should prove very exciting and my honest opinion, as Coach would be to see ALL my players make the grade into U12 Division 1. Our Goalkeeper varied from week to week with everyone putting in a great effort. Defenders: Zane and Zachery both were unstoppable, great at tackling and very rarely making a mistake. Midfielders: Ashton, Orion, Jonny, Brooklyn, Jasper, Jordan, Liam and Will all showed high levels of ball control, tackling, passing as well as scoring some excellent goals throughout the season. Attackers: Cooper, Will and Lachlan - all three scored multiple goals with Cooper scoring 8, Lachlan 10 and Will finishing with 13 goals. Congratulations on an excellent season, I was very proud of everyone’s performance and I look forward to leading you all as Coach to Champion of Champions next season. Special thanks go to my Manager Ben Palmer and all the parents for their support throughout the season. Players: Cooper Budd, Jordan Campbell, Ashton Dobson, Jasper Douglas, Lachlan Golby, Zachery Gonzalez, Liam Murphy, Zane Palmer, Jonathan Peters, Orion Pick, Brooklyn Ritchie, Will Tandy. U11/2 (non-competition) We started the year a little over graded and struggled to match it with the division 1 sides, despite some really spirited performances by everyone in the squad. Although the early part of the season saw some lop-sided results against us no one in the team dropped their heads or gave up during

2017 End of Season Yearbook 27 games. Good attitude is something you simply cannot coach, and we were lucky to have it in every member of the squad. Once regraded we proved competitive every time we played, twice scaring Blaxland with close results, who ended the season undefeated. Not many of the boys had played together before, and it took a while to find our feet as a team. Towards the end of the season we started clicking and produced some outstanding efforts. Special mention has to go to the boys who put their hands up for goal keeping. We had six boys who were all keen to do the job, and every one of them performed brilliantly. I hope every one of the boys try out for the top team next year. There are a number of boys in the squad that will only help strengthen the division 1 side. It really has been a pleasure to coach this group. Most of them have maturity beyond their years, they all put big efforts in at training and games, and they are all up for a good laugh. The Pizza Picnics in particular were a favourite training session, despite the team rule about no junk food on a Friday night! A big thank you to the parents who helped make the year so pleasant, and to Warrick for his efforts all year. Thanks also to the assistant coach Max Peters, who proved a great role model for the boys with his skill, attitude and patience, and helped make the training sessions a lot of fun. Players: Bodie Bennett, Addison Bradshaw, Patrick Dawson, Oliver Dickens, Caleb Dougherty, Luke Edwards, William Happell, Lachlan Hildon, Daniel Horton, Aiden Machon, Antonio Todarello, Lachlan Waters. U11/4 (non-competition) If the 11/1’s, 11/2’s & 11/6’s thought they had all the action this season they are badly mistaken! It was all 11/4’s. The kids got a coach in Colin who has an English accent, so immediately, this gave him ‘street cred’. Half way through the season a sophisticated transnational organised crime syndicate was smashed wide open! Someone was trafficking illegal red frogs into the half time rest break! Believe it or not parents! Worse still, the red frogs had an illegal and staggering 120% purity! The coach and manager couldn’t work out why the kids were so ‘wired’. So, this was how the season unfolded through the eyes of the un-hallucinating (if there is even such a word) coach & manager. Jacob, he never spoke and transmitted his thoughts telepathically to the team. Under the influence of the frogs, he did cartwheels, reverse kicks and this was before he even got on the field! He had a remarkable season. Then there was Declan Edmondson. He started hearing voices, “DECLAN PASS THE BALL! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DON’T PLAY WITH IT, JUST KICK IT!!!” He soon realised it was his dad yelling at him, as he was the coach. To numb this pain, he ate as many red frogs that he could. Declan Power, he was so cool under pressure in defence, any cooler & he would have turned into an ice cube! Outstanding work! Tate, Mr. Smoooooth! The team photo, mannnnn you look sharp! He darted all over the field doing a legendary job in attack. Andrew. It looked like 20 red frogs wouldn’t melt in his mouth! At the start of the season, shy, reserved but by the end of the season KER POWWW! His ball skills were amazing. Rory, the most fashionable player on the paddock, he just levitated above the ball controlling it by gaze. His ball control was superb. Regan, if anyone overdosed on ‘frogs’ it was him! He couldn’t stay in one spot for more than 0.21 seconds! His ability to traverse the paddock was astounding. The twins, Ronan and William. William and his co-accused Regan, on the same day consumed that many red frogs each lost a tooth! Ronan the other twin, spent time as goalie generally staring into the atmosphere thinking of, who knows? Then we had Grace, Makayla & Charlie. The trio were the brains behind the crime syndicate! They rarely spoke hoping to slip under the gaze of Coach & Manager. When Charlie did speak, she only spoke to the ball saying, “come on ball, help me out here” and “I can do a big kick now!” Under the influence of sugar her game skills improved 100-fold. Then there was Grace & Makayla (Macka). They used code to communicate to each other using the word “Macka” for, “I want more red frogs”. Grace aggressive and fearless nature, induced by the illicit supply of red frogs, made her a standout for the team. “Macka”, her confidence

28 Springwood United Football Club and determination was remarkable through the entire season albeit under the influence of excess of red food colouring. As far as the broken down poor old team manager he was nothing but a dud! A millstone around the neck of the team holding them back from greatness! And so-far-as the u11/4 crime syndicate was concerned, the entire team fled SHP at the end of the season seeking political asylum somewhere in a far, far away land to feast on red frogs! WHAT A SEASON FOR THE 11/4’S! W H A T A S E A S O N! Players: Makayla Crouch, Andrew Dillen, Declan Edmondson, Tate Firth, Charlie Gorham, Nicholas Hansen, Regan Huggins, Ronan Hurley, William Hurley, Rory Jenner, Jacob Mendham, Declan Power, Grace Smith. U11/6 (non-competition) A great season with an enthusiastic bunch of boys. Most of them had never met at the start of the season and it wasn’t long until they knew each other’s names and started to enjoy the games and drills that Chris prepared each week. Finding the team balance was difficult at first but coach persisted and encouraged the boys to work as a team and focus on their abilities. Solid defence each week from Sam, Afonso, Caleb and Connor. Midfield strategy from Liam, Nathan and Luke. Fast feet at the front with Jack, Tom and Nathan. Great goalie each week, Noah. Win or lose the boys turned up each week. We rarely had reserves so the boy relied on each other’s strengths to get motivated. With disappointing losses at the start of the season came the hunger, motivation and Coach Chris’ words of encouragement and wisdom. The boys started playing as a solid team and the excitement of goals and winning was part of this. Chris could not single out a particular player in the team because you all played as 1…a team. A fantastic season boys! Thank you to the parents who supported their children and to siblings who cheered then along. Players: Noah Barr, Nathan Bemrose, Caleb Bennett, Thomas Cole, Liam Harrison, Jack Hooley, Afonso Macedo, Connor Rigney, Luke Roorda, Jared Shanks, Samuel Todd. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 29 30 Springwood United Football Club 2017 End of Season Yearbook 31 32 Springwood United Football Club 2017 End of Season Yearbook 33 Junior Female Football Coordinator Report This year the Club had the most junior girls teams in the competition (together with Colo). It was also one of the most successful seasons for the girls. All of the girl’s teams were competitive this season. The U12G1 team won the championship tournament and the U14G1 team won the regular season competition even though most of them could play U13s. The only regret is that we did not manage to field an U10Gs team with many girls preferring to continue to play mixed. There is now also the opportunity to field an intermediate team U17-U21 team and hopefully next year we will be able to participate in this competition. We continued to be a Club that other teams enjoyed playing against because we played in the true spirit of the game. We treated our opposition with respect and were respected by them. Regardless of the result our girls still managed to congratulate the other team and smile. So congratulations to all the girls – we look forward to seeing you again next season. Thanks to our coaches Megan, Sam and Dave, Michael & Nick and Lincoln. For some of them it was also their first season. Hopefully they will be inspired to pursue coaching further and obtain a community coaching qualification. Our managers must have done a great job because I did not have any complaints through the year – so well done to Carla, Peta, Gemma, Michelle, Tanya & Lynda. Without your contribution this would not have been such a successful season for our girls. Thanks also to the parents who provided support and volunteered through the season. I hope all of the girls take the opportunity in the off season to support our local W-League teams. You can learn a lot by watching more experienced players. Finally thanks to the Management Committee and the Football Committee and our administrator Annette for all the hard work that they do in the background that makes this Club work so well. Our fiftieth season has been so successful because of the work that they have done. For those not continuing on those committees thanks for all your hard work over many seasons and enjoy a well earned rest.

Junior Female Competition Team Reports

U12/1 Girls – 2nd GRAND FINAL WINNERS. WOOHOO. What a fantastic season 2017 was for this amazing team of female footballers. We started with a team of 12 until the girls recruited some friends and a player from the 12G/2 team and the number went to 15. We started the season strong and never looked back. By the end of the season we were the team to beat and no one could, hence we won the grand final. The girls showed determination and great skill all year. Their sportsmanship every game is applaudable. Every girl on the team had an understanding of the game, they knew their positions and what was expected of them. Their never give up attitudes is what I most enjoyed watching every week. These girls are a pleasure to coach, they love learning new and old skills and they put them into place every game. The best game of the season was against Richmond (who we hadn't beaten) for a place straight into the grand final. We won 4-1 and the girls were ecstatic. It cost me pizza dinner for next week’s training but it was a game I will never forget. The excitement from the team and spectators was priceless. I would like to thank the Parents, Grandparents (I don't think Izzy's grandparents missed a game) and siblings who supported the girls every week and at times were more excited than the girls about winning a game. Grand final day was fantastic with you all there supporting us. I would especially like to thank Carla Sawyer. Her managing skills are exceptional, with rosters for shirts and fruit and her communication to the team never missed a beat. I hope to see all the girls back next season and look forward to another great female football season. Players: Isabella Bonnici, Tiana Devine, Nyah Hutchings, Isabelle Iversen, Chloe Johnston, Molly Jones, Elizabeth Kerkham, Zoe Leach, Eliza Manners, Tamsyn McGrouther, Chyna Moore, Chelsea Muller, Anastasia Sawyer, Charli Settree, Isabella Trinajstic. Coaches: Megan Gilchrist Manager: Carla Sawyer

U12/2 Girls – 5th This team was a mix of 10, 11 and 12 year old girls. With almost half our girls playing the game for the first time this year. Despite this, the girls made up for their youth & inexperience and gave it everything they could. The girls gelled together quickly and some great friendships were made. Lincoln tried his best to get some training in between the girls weekly catch-up chats. It was an extremely tough competition with several much bigger and more physical teams. The girls still managed to score a total of 39 goals throughout the season and finish the first round in 5th place. Matilda had an outstanding season as keeper. Alkira, Bethany, Caitlin, Emelia and Karla our fierce defence rarely gave the opposition any chance to score. Abigail, Amy, Chloe, Emily and Lani our midfielders did an amazing job getting the ball forward so we had the opportunities to score.

Ashley, Bella, Hannah and Holly took advantage of their speed and made life difficult for our opposing teams. I would like to thank all the parents and families of the team for their support and sideline encouragement of the girls over the season. Players: Lani Amputch, Karla Bernays, Ashley Crighton, Abigail Davidson, Chloe Harrington, Matilda Holder, Emily Kirkpatrick, Emelia Lonergan, Bella McSpadden, Caitlin Morel-Butterworth, Bethany Paul, Alkira Rintoul, Hannah Roots, Amy Rowntree, Holly White. U14/1 Girls – Premiers It is an achievement, in any season, to win your competition but for a girls’ team who are largely players who could play U13 to win an U14 girls competition on their first attempt was a fantastic effort and earned them a well deserved entry into the Champions of Champions competition. Throughout the season the team was assisted by a number of upgrades from other teams - thanks Charlie, Tallyne, Kaitlyn, Caitlinn, Eve, Ellie, Anastasia, Isabella and Zoe in helping out through the season. We could not have won the competition without your help. Bridget, Georgia and Bella spearheaded our attack through the season. They were assisted with goals from midfield where Evey, Ella I, Cassidy and Ella L all contributed. Our defence, however, was the backbone of the team with Demi, Amber, Lola, Emilee and Rachael proving to be a hard defence to break down. We also had the benefit of the best keeper in the competition in Kaydi. A special mention to Lola who, playing her first season, competed and contributed to the team’s success from the first game. Being a younger team, the girls were often subjected by other teams to very physical games as the opposition sought to overcome the skill of our team by pushing and shoving our girls off the ball. Through all of it they just got up and kept playing in the true spirit of the game. Not only were they skilful but they were tough. As we head into champions of champions they will need these qualities and we will need to be focused for the full hour of play. Thanks to all the parents and girls who assisted in helping me lug the coaching equipment around and those who put up nets and took them down during the season and helped out on the BBQ duty. Thanks also to our sponsor Codmah, whose logo was a stand out on our training and reserve tops, for their support. Special thanks to our manager Gemma. There were lots of things I just did not have to think of as coach because Gemma had already thought of them and done them. Players: Cassidy Chambers, Kaydi Christie, Lola Edmondson, Amber Hurley, Ella Irvine, Bridget Lloyd-Williams, Ella Lynch, Evey McLaren, Rachael Rowntree, Emilee Schatzman, Georgia Sroczynski, Isabella Valle, Demir Vassallo. Coach: Steven Nicholson Manager: Gemma Rowntree

U14/2 Girls – 3rd At the start of the year, Dave, Michelle and I somewhat reservedly took on rolls of the coaches and managers. We were presented with a team of girls that hadn't had great results in previous years, but simply loved the game and the social aspect. The team was mixed with young teenagers from year 7 and 8, we did laugh and think what are we in for, teenage girls have a serious amount of "stuff going on". As it turned out we had a blast, the girls all got on great, and put in their best week in week out, always putting the team first. Their skills improved out of sight in our unexperienced coaching opinion. We hit leader of the competition at one stage and ended with the awesome result of coming 3rd, far greater than their own expectations.

36 Springwood United Football Club From a coaches perspective we'd like to put out a special thanks to Michelle and all other managers, who volunteer their time and efforts. It is a time consuming and demanding roll. Michelle you did an amazing job .Thanks. All the best for future years’ girls. Players: Lauren Bailey, Lauren Beaton, Sarah Berechree, Lila Bishop, Tallyne Cassar, Cassidy George, Evalina Hahn, Eve Hurley, Chloe Kitching, Kayley O’Reilly, Ellie Smith, Ellie Watson, Alora White. U14/3 Girls – 5th The girls started the season with one goal in mind: 'To be the best team in the league and to fall in love with the game'....and they achieved this not by winning every game or scoring the most goals but working every week for one another and never giving up. The experience and skill of the team was quite extreme from seasoned campaigners to total newbies but it didn't matter they all pulled together and became a team. Through the course of the season focus was given to getting the basics right whilst working on strategies for each game to play to their strengths and nullify the opposition. They drew a lot of games and competed to the end with the two top teams (each of those teams knew they'd had a battle with Springwood) with a bit of luck they could easily have won all those games, it was that close. These group of girls are special, they may not be the biggest, strongest or fastest in the league, but they never shied away from a challenge and they kept learning new skills and techniques which they started to employ without realising it. Their enthusiasm and bravery week in week out was a rewarding experience and we believe they did fulfil their potential to be the best team in the league....as for falling in love with the game...ask the parents who took part in the girls versus mum's and dad’s game, then again some things are best left unsaid...... Players: Charlie Aterea, Maddison Budd, Sia-Rose Campbell, Laila Devine, Georgia Emmanuel, Caitlin Graham, Audrey Haynes, Roxy Howell, Piper Hunter, Leksi Kinnunen, Rose Priora, Kate Roberts, Annie Smith. U16/1 Girls – 5th We started the season with a squad of 16 players including three players who were new to the game and several players who had not previously played for the Club. We were in first division in a difficult competition with several established teams who had been dominant for some time. The Glenmore Park team was one of the top 4 teams for its age group in the State and the Colo team was probably in the top 10 teams in the State. Initially we were hampered by the lack of pre-season training and trial games and we started the season with some significant losses. The start was so bad we were asked if we were interested in the Club applying to have us regraded to division 2. Gradually, as the season progressed, we improved and more and more elements of our game came together. Though often not at the same time in the same game. For 3 of our players, Bella, Julia and Lucy, it was their first season of football and first division is a hard place to learn the game. To their credit, they all made great strides and came to hold their own on the field against far more experienced opposition. The highlight of the season was a game against the top team Glenmore Park where, with 11 players, we only lost 3-0. This was a significant achievement given Glenmore Park had scored 6 and 7 goals against the team previously. This team really played at its best when its back was to the wall and it had to fight against adversity. A number of the girls in the team scored goals this season which was encouraging. Of particular note were Taylah and Maddie who came together well to score against even the Glenmore Park team (who only gave away 2 goals during the regular season). Page 37 of 60

2017 End of Season Yearbook 37 By the end of the season, however, we were able to hold our own and compete against three of the other teams in the competition. To the girls credit they played in a great spirit and often with a sense of fun. Perhaps the greatest compliment was paid to the girls when the coach of the then unbeaten Glenmore Park team said “At least you guys always try and play football against us – other teams just park the bus”. Thanks to all the parents and girls who assisted in helping me lug the coaching equipment around and those who put up nets and took them down during the season and helped out on the BBQ duty. Thanks also to our sponsor Ella Bache Springwood for their support through the season. Special thanks to Linda our manager. Coaching two teams this year meant that a lot more responsibility and work fell to the manager than would normally be the case. It was encouraging that the manager did not have to chase the parents to get them to volunteer during the season. Players: Genevieve Blandin de Chalain, Lucy Burgess, Jordan Chambers, Chloe Chapman, Annabel French, Natalie Frost, Siobhan Harrison, Julia Hoare, Chelsea Jones, Eva Kooma de Bie, Isabella Ligteringen, Taylah Monks, Sarah Rheinberger, Madison Sroczynski, Isabella Tandy. U12/1 Black – 7th Teamwork, Resilience, Passion and Grit. These are the words that come to mind when thinking of the U12 Division 1 Black team. Over the season, this group of young men of varying playing experience (never played to several years) came together as a team. Under the guidance of Dale and Dion, each member of the team developed new skills and improved on old ones. While I’m sure there were times they wanted to, no one ever gave up – always giving it their all and digging deep for a bit extra. While we didn’t always get the result we wanted and worked for, as the season went on, coaches from other teams commented on how much they had improved since they last game. The Division 1 Black Team can hold their heads high, having overcome many obstacles this year. Congratulations to the team. Players: Vincent Applebee, Jeremy Barker, Charlie Barrett, Tohby Cacchillo, Oliver Carr, Jaxon Fraser, Ziggy Fraser, Finlay Hahn, Joel Harriden, Max Jackson, Ben Robertson, Louis Short, Ryan Taylor, Gabriel Valle, Felix Watson. Coach: Dale Applebee and Dion Valle Manager: Krista Applebee

U12/1 White – 3rd It was our absolute pleasure to coach this group of fine young boys. At the start of the season the mix of players from various teams of the previous season saw our first season venturing into competition football on a full size field at first as a challenge, which the boys took head on. The objective for the season was to learn how to play a style of football that was based on ball possession, patience and discipline. The boys grasped this concept around mid-season and from there on the style of football saw some fantastic games played. The boys developed as both individual footballers and collectively as a tight team that had respect for each other, accepted each other’s errors during the game and supported each other on and off the pitch no matter the outcome. Finishing equal 2nd but 3rd on for and against, the team was building for some big games towards the end of the season. The milestone in our season being the only team to defeat Glenmore Park, holding them goalless at their home ground was a brilliant demonstration of the boys tenacity to stick to a game plan, and maintain their formation, discipline and patience as a collective in defence and to take your opportunities in attack when you win the ball. The season pinnacle was reaching the Final to come up against a disciplined and skilful Glenmore Park team. The final result did not favour us on the day, however, all of the boys gave it their best efforts and played with pride and passion they can all be proud of. Hopefully all of you continue to play football and return for another season in 2018. Well done boys, we are all proud of your achievements, efforts and who you are. Players: Emanuel Borg, Austin Boss, Ethan Dempsey, Texas Down, Samuel Ford, Harry Gilchrist, Joel Golder, Nathanael Mott, Declan O’Riordan, Riley Pagitz, Oliver Rizzuti, Thomas Rizzuti, Lachlan Smith, Cameron Trotter, Alexander Wright. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 39 U12/3 – 8th I would like to share an email received from an opposition coach. This sums up our season and sentiments. Hi, I am the co ach of the Richmond Ex-Serviceman's U12/3. I just wanted to thank your U12/3s players and coach for the games this season. It very easy to play when everything's good, but it shows the character of the players and coach to keep playing (and having fun) when it's not. Each time we played not only was the effort and a 'never give up attitude' there, but the game was played in a great spirit as well. From talking to other coaches, I wasn't the only one that noticed as well. Thanks again, your players and coach are an absolute credit to your club. Players: Harrison Adorini, Ryan An U, Cameron Bodkin, Cohen Boys, Mason Cooper, Nicholas Del Carmen, Max Hancock-Collins, Dylan King, Sean Konwerski, Brayden Lawson, Jett Lawson, Luca Penserini, William Richardson, Jordan Traykovski. Coach: Adrian Hancock Manager: Leanne Kennedy

U13/1 – 5th What a season it has been, the longer it went on the more they improved. These boys are a credit to themselves, their families, and the club. I am so proud of these young men and what they have achieved. I would like to thank the players, parents and the club for the opportunity to coach this team. I hope the team has gained as much from this season as I have gained from them. I would like to wish every player on this team every success and I look forward to seeing them back at Summerhayes next year. On behalf of Scott, Ryan, and myself thank you for your support and commitment to this team. Players: Oliver Alves-Jones, Oscar Atkins, Bailey King, Brady Leehy, Jomei Love, Declan Mckay, Jack Mein, Dylan O’Flanagan, Ethan Power, Daniel Salisbury, Bryce Skinner, Ethan Sophokleous, Lachlan Tarleton, Jack Thomas, Owen Webster. Coaches: Joshua Jacka and Ryan O’Flanagan Manager: Scott Jacka

U13/2 – 5th The team began the season as a new combination of diverse players. After the first couple of games it looked a bit grim. It seemed that the first challenge was to be competitive in Division 2, and the wet weather to begin the season didn't help. It was wonderful to see the boys' perseverance in training, showing up to games and always doing their best. Their patience with a rookie coach was also much appreciated! They were rewarded with some good wins and some valiant losses throughout the season. The team proved themselves to be competitive, with good scoring capability. They scored lots of goals and conceded quite a few, meaning their games were never boring! Thanks to the parents for coming along for the ride. It was especially pleasing to see the way the boys conducted themselves, stuck with each other and showed maturity in ups and downs. They were a pleasure to coach and did not complain, even in fitness training (much). Congratulations to the boys for coming together as a team, improving enormously through the season, and a season well-played. Players: Jye Cooke, Vaughan Dugdale, Angus Durie-Fox, Mason Evans, Riley Fryer, Lachlan Goodman, Jordan Hather, Blake Heron, Martin Higginbotham, Benjamin Jenner, Nathan Press, Joshua Robinson, Oliver Short, Jayden Tapuska, Reuben Young. "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." Bill Shankly

40 Springwood United Football Club U13/3 – 3rd This newly formed team was a mix of experienced players and some who had played very few competitive football games. The first few weeks were a time of figuring out each of the players strengths - from there it was up and up! As the season progressed, the boy’s belief in themselves and the team grew as they learnt to play as a team and to back each other. Many games went down to the wire. This was when the teams’ grit, determination and camaraderie shone through. A stand out game was against Hazelbrook. As it turned out, this was the last game of our season. We had only played Hazelbrook once at the beginning of the season, and went down 5-0. The boys, on a cold and blustery day at Lawson rose to the challenge, fought hard, passed the ball, continuously attacked, had a rock solid wall of defence and never once gave up. The boys came away with the win (2-1) in the final minutes of the game. All of boys should be very proud of the improvement in their football skills, sportsmanship displayed over the season and being excellent representatives of the club. Thanks to Warrimoo Kitchens for their sponsorship of the team this year. The boys looked very schmick in their training shirts. Thanks also to all the parents for their support, encouragement, attending the games and cheering wonderfully from the sidelines. It has been a pleasure to coach and manage this team. Bring on 2018! Players: Harry Bernays, Conor Cox, Thomas Davies, Wilson Douglas, Thomas Kirschner, Joel Knott, Ben Mallin, Isaac Mason, David McMaster, Diesel Moore, Conna Taylor, Nathan Treble, Cameron Waters, Dylan Watt and Luke Wright. Coach: Jonathan Mallin Manager: Sharon Bernays

U14/2 Black – 2nd This was a great year for development and confidence for this team. We finished 2nd this season with 11 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses with 69 goals for and only 14 against (every player scored except the keeper). Unfortunately, we did not get the win the contentious grand final but the boys played very well and were unlucky. Gabriel Bagatella, new to the team, improved with each game, a valuable asset at season end contributing with 6 goals. Dominic Bailey continues to improve each week. By the end of the season, we saw a big improvement in his touch and confidence and resulted in him scoring 2 goals. Jaiden Bes, there was a massive change in Jaiden this season, his composure on the ball saw him develop into a fantastic play maker. Riley Burgess, Most Consistent Award. Mr Dependable, with deft touch making him unstoppable. Riley's vision is terrific, often putting our strikers into great positions via his accurate passes into space. Ollie Davidson, my “go to” player, can easily play any position. Fast, very good ball skills making quick work of the opposition. Ollie is extremely solid in defence with a never say die attitude. Sam Edwards our Captain, strong, reliable, HUGE work rate. Great ball skills which enabled him to score 2 goals. Sam has matured into a very good Captain. Caleb Frost was new but proved to be a valuable addition as he has the ability to play any position, as well as helping the team out playing keeper for a few weeks when Alex was injured. Alex Gismondo, Most Improved Award. First season as a keeper. Alex developed into a great attacking keeper often turning defence into attack. He kept 7 clean sheets. Joseph Iversen, new to the team, new to the midfield position but really developed into a solid CAM. Contributed 6 goals via his terrific ball skills. Miles Lidster is a solid and dependable defensive midfielder. Miles often stopped attackers in their tracks with his strong tackles, always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

2017 End of Season Yearbook 41 Eamonn Luchetti is developing into a fast and strong attacker. His touch is improving as is his left foot. Using his speed Eamonn made lots of terrific incursion runs into the opposition territory. Kaseko Mgaza, new to the team, very strong in defence, good attacking runs with solid crosses, loved his reaction when he scored a beauty. Owen Miller, great touch, skills, speed and accurate shots have been a joy to watch. Golden Boot with 19 goals plus 1 for U16’s including 1 “haul” (4 goals), 1 “hat-trick” - Great season. Ethan Szmytka’s attacking flair shone this season. He scored 8 goals including a “Hat-trick”. Can play in any attacking position and is a real asset to the team. Ben Tracey, Best and Fairest Player, our Messi - very skilful, great vision, scored 13 goals with 2 “Hat- tricks” including 3 long distance goals against Glenmore Park. Players: Gabriel Bagatella, Dominic Bailey, Jaiden Bes, Riley Burgess, Ollie Davidson, Sam Edwards, Caleb Frost, Alex Gismondo, Joseph Iversen, Miles Lidster, Eamonn Luchetti, Kaseko Mgaza, Owen Miller, Ethan Szmytka, Ben Tracey. Coaches: Michael Robson and Mitchell Robson Manager: Brodie Luchetti

U14/2 White – 6th This was a hard year for the boys, competition wise. We had an early win in the season against a very depleted opposition which saw us remain in division 2. That was to be our one and only win of the season. The boys kept us proud however with them never giving up against extremely tough competition. We would often be down by more than 4 goals at half time but the boys would not give up and often had a stronger second half than first. I’d really like to thank the boys for never giving up and continuing to enjoy playing each week. As usual Liz kept us all informed of where our games were and times, thanks Liz for all the work you did during the season. Thanks also to Brett for assisting in coaching. Lastly I’d like to thank the parents for their support and time in bringing the boys along each week. Players: Zac Carvasiglia, Matthew Gilchrist, Lyam Grayson, Noah Gyori, Louis Heritage, Jack Hunter, Sam Johnson, Blake Jones, Deyne Jones, Ben Keith, Zac Sampson, Eli Traykovski, Trent Wallace, Matthew Ward, Andrew Williams, Rhys Williams. Coach: Tim Gilchrist Manager: Liz Hunter Assistant Coach: Brett Jones

U15/1 – 7th The 2017 season for the 15/1's proved to be a difficult one for the boys with the team being rebuilt after losing approximately half of the 2016 team in the off season, added to this was the surprise appointment of a new coach for 2017. It was a learning curve for everyone with a new style of play that didn't kick in until the second half of the season. My thanks to the team for their continued match efforts where despite our position we often led the top teams through excellent passing and movement. More focus and application at training will see this team improve their skills and game awareness in the coming season. A huge thank you to Adam Corne for your support and assistance, particularly early in the season and to Andy Graham for taking the team when I couldn't get away from work. For all the parents sorry for yelling at your son, it's my football passion coming out. Extra big thank you to my wife Kim for being manager (first time) and putting up with me post game. Players: Ethan Cooper, Ben Corne, Tom Ford, Orlando Gilbert, Jack Graham, Cameron Hume, Jack Hunter, Tom Hunter, Bernie Miall, Aiden Miller, Josh Sneesby, Liam Stratford, Aaron Stubbs, Aiden Willis, Daniel Zucak. 42 Springwood United Football Club U15/2 – 5th This season was very challenging for the team which brought about some mixed results. We started the season with a new team for the fourth year in a row. There is no doubt there is great talent in this team. The first half of the season saw some mixed results. The second half of the season saw more consistent football from the boys, which was a direct result of improved skills and team work. Some highlights for the team was securing a win against the competition leaders in a night game, with only eleven players against fifteen. Another game against the second placed team we were down to nine players against fifteen and came away with a draw. A result which was well deserved and one which the boys can be very proud of. The boys finished the year off well, beating or drawing with every team. Thanks also to the parents who supported the boys through the season. The team had their ups and downs but your continual support was important and much appreciated. Players: Ford Atkins, Tallis Cranney, Hunter French, Isaac Frost, Logan Heron, Connor Hogan, Oscar Norrie, Lachlan Reeves, Lachlan Reid, Alexander Roorda, Matthew Samuelson, Jack Sparkes, Joshua Taylor, Aleksandrs Titovs, Ronan Tucker. Coach: Geoff Kennedy Manager: Claudine Hogan

U16/1 – 3rd It was always going to be a challenge to repeat last season’s effort of being undefeated this year without 4 of those players. But with the nucleus of the team still there I had high expectations the team would perform well. Once again we showed we played the best type of football with our passing game and skilful players adding a bit of flair. Unfortunately all teams suffer injuries and illness and it took its toll on the results this year. The team finished 3rd which was a great effort, but fell short at the final game to challenge the Grand Final. There were some outstanding performances by the team and individual’s this year which is always a pleasure to watch. I’ve been coaching this team for the past 6 years and this year was to be my final. I want to say what a pleasure it has been coaching and watching you boys grow up over this time, you all have grown into fine young men which you and your parents should all be proud off. You have all developed into great football players as well and if you believe in yourselves you can achieve anything you want. Thank you to all the parents for your support over the years, and a very special thankyou to my Managers – Janine & Kelvin Peters. Goodbye and Good luck. Pat Agius. Players: Lleyton Agius, Oliver Clancy, Andrew Davey, Jack Hawkins, Tom Keith, Hudson Dawson, Max Peters, Riley Sophokleous, Blake Tester-Bailey, Riley Thompson, Connor Thorpe, Jarrod Wilson, Adisen Wright. Coach: Pat Agius Managers: Janine and Kelvin Peters

U16/2 – 8th The beginning of the season saw lots of enthusiasm amongst the team for a positive year. However, that enthusiasm was put to the test as the season progressed. Player unavailability due to injuries was our biggest hurdle. Despite these barriers, the boys still turned out each Saturday to play. There were many games when we were on the wrong end of the score board when the result did not reflect the way in which they played. This was disappointing when it was obvious we were the better team and our opposition seized and converted their chances into the back of the net. The boys learnt this season that the best team does not always win. Here are the season highlights: Aengus – first season as goalkeeper. Improved each week demonstrating his ability as a goalkeeper for the future. Jimmy – assisted as goalkeeper when required, playing solidly in this position. Also a very competent outfield player. Page 43 of 60

2017 End of Season Yearbook 43 Lachlan – solid in centre defence, utilizing his speed to advantage. Probably the fastest player in the competition being a striker’s nightmare. Caleb G – hovered around the left hand side in defence or mid-field. Has a great first touch and well balanced on the ball. Adam – unfortunately a knee injury hampered him this season however always keen to support and help the team. Caleb L – was forced to play defence a lot this season due to unavailability of players in this position. Did a great job despite he is a natural midfielder. Luca – showed great improvement this year playing midfield. Always willing to take the game to the opposition. Joe – despite on-going back problems during the season, Joe always gave it 100%; tenacious on the ball displaying great skills. Geoff – became a master of all trades; playing defence, midfield and striker. A versatile player who never stopped running. Kasper – new to football this year however fitted in quite well. Always making a valuable contribution to the team. Jarod – always searching for a goal and was rewarded for his effort with a few this season. Preston – another unlucky player to succumb to a season-ending injury not before he scored a double against Blaxland. Kit – a roving midfielder always in search of the ball. Also played well as a centre defender when called upon to do so. Zach – played most of the season in midfield however we learnt in the last game of the season he has a hidden talent as a defender. Thank you to Owen, Ethan and Joe from the U14/2 team for helping out this season. Thank you parents for coming along to support the team. A big thank you to Renee who did a fantastic job as our manager and to Peter for filling in when required. Players: Jimmy Alexander, Kit-Meng Balnave, Preston Dinning, Jeffrey Gismondo, Joseph Goodall, Caleb Grima, Jarod Hughes, Caleb Lawlor, Lachlan Leehy, Adam Richardson, Luca Segedin, Aengus Sherriff, Kasper Winter Gale, Zachery Wise. Coach: Sean Leehy Manager: Renee Richardson

U17/1 – 2nd 2017 - A season to remember. Only 7 players remained from the 2016 U16/1s, with four players making the step up from division 2, and two returning from NSW Premier League. It looked like we would not have a goalkeeper until just before the trials, when Liam Dawe joined to complete the team, returning to football after many years at rugby. With a natural flair for goalkeeping, Liam completed the team well. The team always gave the spectators a great game to watch, along with a few nail biting results, with many exceptional individual performances, and always a great team effort, particularly against the strongest teams. In a very close competition, where all teams competed well on their day, we played thirteen competition games missing out on the Premiership by 1 point and maintaining 2nd position by 1 goal. As a team we focused on possession and strategic attacking, through positioning and good use of set pieces, and playing with individual confidence and trust in your team mate. It was great to see the development of each player’s thinking game and seeing many goals scored from well executed strategic team plays. All games were memorable but who can forget the dominant displays in our final 2 games of the season, back to back, against Penrith FC (a nemesis over the years). In both those games we were leading up unto the last two minutes with Penrith FC securing a draw in desperation almost on the whistle. We met St Marys FC in the Grand Final and the team finished the season in style, with another nail biter, down to penalty shootout, and ultimately winners of the Grand Final. Undefeated to the end, a commendable effort by all concerned, and thoroughly deserved, in front of a huge crowd of supporters. Page 44 of 60

44 Springwood United Football Club Each player deserves special mention for their development, effort and sportsmanship throughout the season. But it was their mateship and support of each other as a team and across the 17s age group, that really needs to be acknowledged. A truly good natured group of mates, always there for each other, gracious in victory and respectful to all competitors. Players: Daniel Bradshaw, Liam Clifford, Ashley Corne, Liam Dawe, Karl Gethin-Damon, Adam Hancock, Marcus Harrison, Mitch Hawes, Sam Heritage, Brenton Jeffery, Leon Lynch, Thomas Lynch, Ben Paul, Louis Tebay. Coach: Iain Lynch Manager: Bruce Paul

U17/2 – 5th It has been a great year with a group of talented young men. We started the year strong with a string of wins and faced some tough opposition mid-season. We re-grouped, trained hard and ended the season strong with some well played wins and some hard fought games where the result didn’t matter as the quality of the football was at the highest calibre. The team was led very well by Jeremy Hume as Captain and Ko Boser as Vice Captain, or as Bailey would say, Ko-Captain. Sam Lockwood earned the tag Optimus as he played on one leg for most of the season but still threw his body on the line on every occasion and proved rock solid at centre back. We welcomed back the Italian connection of Oscar Wheatley and Liam Carvasiglia, who both tore up the middle and front with some great passages of play. Some great goals from Max Ong, Josh Smith and Ryan Nightingale, who was always hunting. Ben Allen punished the opposition’s defence on more than a few occasions with both speed and footwork and scored some well placed goals. Tim Hurley finally got let out of his box on the last game and showed great skill on the field. Ben Pout and Matt Mendham were always hard to catch and showed great speed and skill. Brendan Kaza was solid as a rock and Jarrah Tuckerman showed great versatility in all positions on the field. Thanks for a great season guys! Players: Ben Allen, Ko Boeser, Liam Carvasiglia, Bailey Ellis, Jeremy Hume, Tim Hurley, Brendan Kazarian, Sam Lockwood, Matt Mendham, Ryan Nightingale, Max Ong, Ben Pout, Josh Smith, Jarrah Tuckerman, Oscar Wheatley. Coach: Graeme Ellis Manager: Deb Beechey

Congratulations to the U16 Division 3 Black Team of 2016 on winning the FNSW State Fair Play Award for their great demonstration of sportsmanship when playing a Glenmore Park team that lost their goalkeeper due to injury.

2017 End of Season Yearbook 45 Senior Female Competition Team Reports

AAW/1 – Premiers Winners! After finishing runners-up last year and the previous year winning the comp, the grand final and competing in the Champion of Champions (COC), it was nice to get back on the winning track and qualify for the COC once again. We played 14 with 2 byes; won 9, drew 2, lost 1, goals for 28, goals against 9, goal difference 19 and finishing on 29 points - 3 clear of second place. The ladies understood from day one that every tackle, every challenge and ever game counted. The ladies lead the competition from the very first game and never relinquished the top spot. “WOW” that’s an achievement in its own right! We brought in two new players this year, Angel Lynch and Jodie Pohl (best communicator ever) and the great Tegan Haberman returned. All settled in quickly with everything pointing towards a very successful season, and it was. We could have and should have scored more than we did but that’s football. We conceded only 9 goals, another “WOW”. We defended superbly with passion and the will to stop shots at goal and if any shots did get through they still had to get past the best goal keeper in the comp by a country mile. One thing about these ladies is their ethical work can never be challenged. Our midfield was very strong, courageous and brave. Our players ran as hard as Phar Lap creating lots of chances with great distribution and creativity. On occasion I changed players’ positions and all accepted it well and each performed excellent in their new found position. The ladies were positive and supportive of each other and teams enjoyed playing against the ladies as all acted in a mature, fair and professional manner, with many compliments coming from the opposition. With Laura being the goalkeeper, the defence was primarily made up of Jess, Jemma, Fiona E and Fiona H. They were resilient and held steadfast, the best defence in the comp - just look at the statistics! The midfield formation was assertive, strong, organized. It is a midfield that loves to play football with excellent distribution and was primarily made up of Georgia D, Tegan, Angel, Nicole, Georgia V, Jodi, Kiera, Natalie and Fiona S. Their possession and distribution enabled the team to move forward effectively, efficiently and they created many chances for themselves. The forwards mainly consisted of Maddie and Emma. They worked extremely hard and the fact is we scored the most goals in the competition - well done. These two girls were very strong on the ball and both have an enormous amount of skill and power. It's very hard playing a forward in the middle as most time your back is against the goal. These two players did a wonderful job and we are blessed having them. We did have some bad news at the end of the season with Natalie rupturing three ankle ligaments during training and Jemma breaking her wrist in two places in the GF. Sadly both will miss at least the early rounds of the COC. These two are amazing and will be missed but luckily we have a top squad. I could write heaps on all these amazing players as I am very proud and honoured to be coaching this squad, but I would take up the whole book! All-in-all it was a successful year on the field. You all should be proud of yourself and reminisce of your achievement, thinking about the obstacles that you had to overcome and the challenges you endured. So ladies, chin up and see you next season. A big thanks to the SUFC committee, they all put so much into the football at SUFC and ask for so little in return. Guys you did an awesome job as you do every year. SUFC would not be as successful if it were not for committed volunteers such as yourselves. I am proud to be associated with you all. A special thank you goes out to Fi H as she took on the managers role after the great Andrew (her father) passed last year. Fi you did an amazing job and I believe deep down we won the comp for Andrew, he would be so proud of you as we all are. Players: Jessica Bell, Jodi Brown, Georgia Dunham, Fiona Erich, Tegan Haberman, Fiona Harrop, Jemma Jones, Angelique Lynch, Natalie Meehan, Kiera Minney, Fiona Skrzypnik, Emma Sloan, Nicole Sloan, Madeleine Todhunter, Laura Tredinnick, Georgia Voura. 46 Springwood United Football Club AAW/4 Black – 2nd Congratulations to the team for a great season sitting near the top of the ladder all season and making it to the grand final with 47 goals for us and 14 against us all season. This season has been one of many great seasons as our team work and sportsmanship continues to grow. A special shout out to Donna for completing her first season of football and scoring a game winning goal. Our team consists of 15 awesome players including: Donna W – She has never played before but scored a goal and stopped one from getting in when she was goalkeeper. Michelle K – She is courageous and never gives up even when she scores own goals. Jane M – She is a little energiser bunny moving about the field with speed and agility. Sarah C – She is our left side defender but occasionally plays on the wing she defends with passion and keeps going till she can’t anymore. Sarah R – She is one of our forwards and has really improved this year. She always sits in the right place to receive the ball then attempts to place it in the back of the net, scoring a few goals this year. Bree H - She is a strong midfielder and has a great boot that can score from halfway a lot of the time. Brei G – She plays a variety of positions and is good at all of them, she left us for Italy for a few weeks but came back fighting hard, helping us to finally draw with the only team we couldn’t beat. Megan G – She is our left wing who can kick with precision except when she miskicks and it goes a totally different way or she doesn’t connect with the ball and we all have a laugh. Sheree – She usually played defensive mid with so much passion she attempted to stop the other team from getting in and always encouraged the team to keep trying and not give up. Jade K – She is one of our big goal scorers getting angry when the other team gets in her way. Jess and Jade started to have a great pattern where Jess would cross it in and Jade would be in the right place to score, Even getting a header off a corner and referring it to scoring like the players in A League. Niamh – She has just joined our team this year and already shown she is an asset, she gives 110% and doesn’t quit. Mel M – She is one of our best and fairest in the team encouraging others and trying hard, and she is the manager of the team. Jessica C – She is a versatile player moving into any position the coach puts her and giving 100% to each position. She tries hard to get goals and succeeds sometimes but the goal posts and crossbar keep getting in the way. Mel D – She has joined our team this year after being out of the game to have a baby. She is a great player who never gives up, she brings to the team skill and passion for the game and even some goals. Karen D – Karen is our Goalkeeper and even though she would like some field time she gives it everything she has even playing with a sore shoulder in the last few weeks. Without her awesome goalkeeping skills the goals against us could be a lot higher. Players: Jessica Cambourn, Sarah Carter, Melanie Dighton, Karen Dufty, Breianna Gilchrist, Megan Gilchrist, Niamh Hanrahan, Bree Hinchey-Holley, Jade Kralj, Michele Kralj, Jane Manners, Sheree McRae, Melinda Morris, Tamika Pulbrook, Sarah Reynolds, Donna Walker. 2017 End of Season Yearbook 47 AAW/4 White – Premiers We did it! We Won the Grand Final! What a Game – Well Done Girls & Jimmy. What a season we had, the team had not all played together before, however with very few training sessions the team came together beautifully. All girls showed determination, courage and commitment, their ability to move the ball around the field, defend their goal and score some great goals was very impressive. Losing only two games this season, I think we may have been the team to beat! Although ask the AAW/4 Black Springwood Team they will say otherwise, during the season we just could not manage to beat them but we got there on Grand Final Day and did it!! A huge thank you to our coach Jimmy for getting us on the field each week, his never ending support and encouragement, even if we weren’t listening Jimmy we did appreciate everything you did for us, thanks for making our Team No 1. Special mention also to our Team Marshall “Col” and our Orange Lady “Deb”, thank you for your ongoing support throughout the season. Thank you also to our parents, friends and boyfriends for their support. Players: Melinda Allan, Georgii Carlile, Sarah Ellis, Brodie Hancock, Erin Johnson, Brooke Kay Vaughan, Kasey Krywinski, Summer Mabon, Katie Moore, Mikayla Robertson, Kaitlinn Rutland, Samantha Rutland, Sonia Spence, Lily Stubbs, Georgia Thomas, Eden Vassallo. Coach: Jimmy Millar Manager: Samantha Rutland

AAW/6 – 7th We added 5 new players to our team this year giving us 17 players so we knew we’d have to stand down 1 player each week – never happened! With injuries, work, sickness and holidays, no-one had to stand down. Unfortunately, we lost Michelle O. partway through the season after breaking her shoulder, and bid Jenny a sad farewell when she moved to Queensland. Our average age made us the oldest female team in Nepean however we played enthusiastically and gave it our best every game. We even had 4 wins during the season. The highlight was when we beat Emu Plains 1-0 after being beaten by them 7-2 in the 1st round. We must’ve really scared them because they forfeited the last game against us in the semi’s! Thanks to everyone who came to training and games each week (even though sometimes and often injured). Thanks also for everyone’s support and encouragement throughout the season. Players: Gabrielle Barton, Michelle Christie, Rachel Collyer, Sue Dunn, Eva Gerencer, Annette Harrop, Alyssa Hartup, Sue Hartup, Rhonda Jenkinson, Cheryl Lynch, Sharon Morgan, Michelle O’Flanagan, Jenneifer Paton, Donna Patterson, Lauren Richards, Louise Sutcliffe, Ingrid Wells. IM/1– 4th This season Intermediate Men’s Division 1 played a tough and successful season although not making it to the finals, with a total of 5 wins and 3 draws. This season the boys played fairly and had the utmost respect in regards to other teams, players and use of equipment. All 16 players should be proud of the way they handled themselves this season and most importantly be proud of the exceptional games completed! As Coach and Manager we look forward to seeing you all next year!. Players: Bailey Attard, Daniel Erich, Samuel Fenech, Brodie Gilchrist, Angus Hosking, Lewis Hughes, Liam Jones, Zachary Maxwell, Jake Minney, Partick Moloney, Ryan O’Flanagan, Lucas Opdam, Jacob Patterson, Callum Ryan, Jordan Ryan, Daniel Warrick. Coach: Gianni Sipione Manager: Sarah Kirkis

IM/2 Black – 7th This season saw the amalgamation of last year’s U17 teams making up a squad of 16 players. This seemed like a big number at the beginning of the season, however as most of the boys were embarking upon their HSC or commencing their trades, it was a handy number to have up our sleeves. The biggest challenge this year for a team comprising of U18 players, was playing against teams where it was evident they were a combination of 19, 20 & 21 year olds. We were definitely the babies of the bunch in terms of average age however this did not deter the boys from playing competitive football. There were many highlights this season with some great goals being scored; solid defence, bustling mid-field play and some great goalkeeping. However one thing that has always impressed me with these group of boys is their mateship and support for each other. Despite what the score board said at the end of the match, they always walked off the pitch as a team congratulating each other for their efforts. The boys came up against some tough opposition this season with the likes of Pitt Town, Wentworth Falls, Emu Plains and of course the other Springwood team who went on to win the competition (congratulations to Ray and the boys!). This will stand them in good stead as they move through the Intermediate Men’s competition until they reach 21. One season highlight which needs a mention was our final match of the season against our old nemesis Hazelbrook. With both teams having nothing to play for other than bragging rights from our local derby, we could only field 9 players against a full strength Hazelbrook team. One would think the result would have been obvious owing to the numerical disadvantage the boys faced. However the boys never contemplated that. After 90 minutes of football the boys pulled off the impossible winning 2-1 in a display of never-die attitude. What a great demonstration of mateship. A big thank you to Leanne our manager for mustering the boys each week. It’s more of a challenge when they get older Leanne and you did a fantastic job! Also thank you to Scott and Paul for filling in my shoes and assisting on Sundays when required. Boys, you are credit to each other, to the team and the club. Look forward to seeing you next season. Players: James Boidin, Daniel Bosley, Griffen Burgess, Tom Falconer, Oliver Freame, Kieren Holder, Ryan Leehy, Simon Maher, Aiden Morgan, Luke Porter, Aidan Richards, Jackson Saunders, Scott Sharp, Benjamin Sneesby, Brendan Vittozzi, Braydon Wells. Coach: Sean Leehy Manager: Leanne Saunders

2017 End of Season Yearbook 49 IM/2 White – Premiers What a season lads! To get through to the grand final with only one loss under our belts was a serious effort. Unfortunately, the Grand Final just wasn’t our day but the results and bants throughout the season overshadows any grand final. We were pretty great! Ben the broken, left footed Zac, Scott the fridge, Chook the corner scorer, where’s Paul?, straight legged Nimbog, Red carded Fionn, nimble Isaac, lean mean angry Dean, Christian & the mullet, Connor the big swing no ding, Lach the one handed freak, Louis lost the goal, Mitch the good, Jim the red head redemption man, step mum Ethan, knobby shite Ray and LUKE. Thanks to Ray for doing a hella good job coaching and keeping us in line throughout the season. We wouldn’t have been able to smash so many teams without your help. Also shout out to Ethan for helping out all the time and for being a truly great team step mum. Players: Paul Ajok, Christian Bakija, Louis Boyd, Connor Byrne, Dean Camilleri, Mitch Duncan, Zac Grima, Niahm Jarrett, Luke Kowald, Scott Mcelroy, Ben Ong, Ryan Parlato, James Sherriff, Isaac Smith, Lachlan Thomas, Fionn Wilkinson. Coach: Ray Sherriff Manager: Louis Boyd

AAM/2 – 8th & AAM/3 – 5th The season was a positive with neither team forfeiting any matches, there was also minimal fines for not completing match sheets during the season! Both teams had challenging years with a mix of existing and new players coming together and a number of injuries/holidays which made it difficult to get the same team in each grade weekly. Both teams were competitive in stages with the 2's picking up points against top of the table teams and the 3's challenging for finals up until the last game of the year. The progress and growth of players in both teams who had not played in several years or not played positions before was great to see. A big thankyou to the Under 17/1s, Iain Lynch and the Over 35/1's for providing players throughout the year. Thank you to Ciaran, Mitch and Harry for assisting throughout the year and we hope to see everybody again next year. Players: AAM2 – Ashley Dickson, Jye Doyle, Josh Egan, Nathan Frost, Harrison Gill, Mitchell Lynch, Jayden Magennis, Lucas Magennis, Mitchell Manzo, Zachary Mcilvride, Dylan O’Brien, Alex O’Connor, Martijn Rixon, Mitchell Robson, Joshua Sayers, Oliver Smith, Callum Stopford. Coach: Harrison Gill Manager: Mitchell Lynch

Players: AAM3 – Patrick Bartush, James Bird, Stuart Cooke, Marc Elysee, Hessam Hami, Peter Hartland, Matthew Hill, Christopher Hodge, Craig Lewis, Tate Mercieca, Russell Perkins, Ciaran Rooney, Dean Southern, Craig Townley-Jones, Matthew Townley-Jones, Michael Wood. Coach: Patrick Bartush Manager: Ciaran Rooney

AAM/11 – 8th That time of the year again, where I get to brag about how our team showed great character and turned up every week. I thought this year I might take a different tactic and talk about the laughs instead. From the get go we had a real sense of team spirit when at the 2nd training session everyone took the mickey out of one of the newest members in the team for rocking the vengaboys as he came into Summerhayes Park. This was followed by the new girly names that got thrown around at trainings, Alison, Daisy and Stephanie amongst the ones I remember. The “Team Goat” (Morgan) really lived up to his name this year, usually the butt of all jokes, the pensioner delivered AGAIN. Missing the back of the net from 1.5 metres, breaking himself again (how,

50 Springwood United Football Club no one knows) but the funniest of all has to be him wanting to eat some grass, how nice it looked in the corner of field 3. I’d like to pass honourable mention to the nights / days out (50th dinner, Munro’s birthday & of course trivia, 2nd wasn’t a bad result, thanks Shannon and Mark for carrying our team, again). Finally I’d just like to thank you all for playing this year. It’s been a blast, special mention to those who helped out on canteen it was greatly appreciated. Hopefully see as many of you as possible at EOS and again for next year, Cheers lads! Players: Geoff Bailey, Danilo Capuyon, David De Chelard, Morgan Drake, Stuart Fox, Dylan Friedewald, Adam Gascoigne-Cohen, Allan Hung, Daniel Jagiello, Chris Mackenzie, Giles Mcloughlin, Mark McLoughlin, Sean McLoughlin, Marc Munro, Adrian Olivera, Luke Smith. Coach: Stuart Fox Manager: David De Chelard

O35/1 Black – 6th From the dictionary for old footballer geezers. Dream – to believe you can achieve more than you are actually capable of. Hope – the misguided belief your dreams will come true. Fashion – a well-worn cardigan. Reality – a harsh season of shocking results shattering your dreams and hopes. As the average age of this squad continues to rise, the ability to compete at this level seems to unfortunately fade and perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate the dreams and hopes. Regardless, in a season riddled with injuries and illness, whoever was able to at least limp onto the pitch continued to do so in defiance of medical industry advice, right until the final game. (A result which should never be discussed.) We should celebrate the fact that we did manage a sweet victory and be grateful that for another year we were able to kick a ball around a park… or to be more accurate… chase a ball around a park. Special thanks to Tom for keeping us informed and organised and also to Peter ‘Omo’ Dempsey who had us looking sparkly and clean for every game. Players: Brendan Cusack, Peter Dempsey, Terry Frost, Christopher Gilchrist, Tom Goudis, Craig Harrison, Sean Leehy, Iain Lynch, Glen McCaffery, Gavin Morgan, Ciaran O’Flanagan, Trevor Pride, Bruce Robins, Christian Shaw, Nigel Stubbs. Coach: Tom Goudis Manager: Nigel Stubbs

O35/1 White – Premiers It was always going to be exciting when the bulk of our last State League Team with a few mates were re united in Springwood colours. Though nobody would have envisaged the season we just had. Undefeated Premiers! Championship Final winners! Wonderful! Our strikers anchored by the imposing Matt Halse & supported in behind by the brilliance, & I mean brilliance of Jason Scibberas & Michael Haberman, set the scene for the team scoring 80 goals. The talent available in the midfield was awesome, enabling us to play possession football not seen on Summerhayes Park for many years. Often not scoring our 1st goal to close to half time, we run our opponents ragged moving the ball all around the park before clinically finishing them off. The centre, marshalled by leaders of men like Kaan Davies & Craig Small and supported by hard working and skilful players like Steve Seymour, Josh Buggy, David Stephens & Rob Haberman was always going to give the team complete control & be the engine room the team needed, to play the style of football it was capable of & wanted to play.

2017 End of Season Yearbook 51 Out wide we were represented by speedy, skilful & hard working players like Chris Johnson, Tim Heyman, Matt Philbrook & Alan Whelan. The pin point service they provided to our strikers is evident by the number of goals scored. Unreal! What can you say about our defenders Nathan King, Evan Stanford & Keith Wilson? Only three! Well for a start conceding only 6 goals all year is something special to remember. These guys just cut off anything our opposition threw at us. Just fantastic! Goalkeeper Tim Kelly’s contribution to the low number of goals conceded cannot be underestimated, he was a rock! His experience playing on the field throughout his career helped him be heavily involved in our possession style and also kept him from getting bored. A truly memorable year! Looking forward to testing our skills in the upcoming Champion of Champions. Players: Joshua Buggy, Kaan Davies, Michael Haberman, Robert Haberman, Matthew Halse, Tim Hayman, Christopher Johnson, Timothy Kelly, Nathan King, Matthew Philbrook, Jason Sciberras, Stephen Seymour, Craig Small, Evan Stanford, David Stephen, Allan Whelan, Keith Wilson. Coach: Stephen Seymour Manager: Bill Seymour

O35/3 – 4th Well what a difference a year makes. We managed to make it all the way to the Semi Final and were knocked out by the Premiers 1-0 in a hard fought match. The team continued to build throughout the season with a number of new players joining the squad this year. Batch was a revelation in goals. John “the tank" Hall was a brick wall in defence, literally. A number of people rotated through the backline and midfield and strikers. We had a number of goal scorers this year which will hope to build on next year. It was the club's 50th season and it took all those years but Graeme Ellis scored and he reliably informs us he is still trending on social media. Amazingly we only had 15 goals scored against us all season, the second best in our division. We only lost 4 matches during our season, what cost us was 7 draws. It was great each week coming from the pitch with a laugh, a smile and some type spent rehydrating with a great group of men. We trained well throughout the season which along with pre- game warm-ups limited our injuries to a couple of players. We all look forward to returning next year, if can turn around a couple of those draws which should go well. Rest up, enjoy the end of season trip and see you next year. Thank you to the esky manager Scott “the Axe Man” Jacka and Mick Skinner for his assistance as Manager throughout the year. Thanks boys. Players: Christian Batchelor, Matthew Churchill, Graham Ellis, Andrew Graham, John Hall, Doug Higgins, Scott Jacka, Peter Monnink, Peter Murphy, Lincoln Rintoul, Barry Salisbury, Michael Skinner, Andrew Smith, Mark Tandy, Dale Wade-Ferrell, Byron Walker. Coach: Andrew Graham Manager: Michael Skinner

O35/4 – 8th The 2017 season began with strong prospects as we commenced with 18 player registrations. A couple of games in and this prospect was ravaged by some injuries but the reliable core of the team played on throughout the season. We tried and aimed to be competitive each week and this can be attributed to our great manager Jane Walker who kept the 35/4s on the park. WASH UP! It was unfortunate to field a constant team who had no reprieve to subs but the core players tried week in week out and did Springwood's boys proud. Players: Craig Adams, John Baxter, Dean Berwick, Patrick Campbell, Michael Cini, Roy Clifford, Sean Davis, Keith Hand, Noel Lynch, Michael Magyary, Brogan Mulhall, Scott Palmer-Brown, Glenn Pickham, Robert Rowntree, Trevor Rowntree, Rory Shanahan, Derek Temple, Duncan Walker. Coach: John Baxter Manager: Jane Walker
