This event became the first World Championships in Olympic sport discipline not only in Azerbaijan but on the whole region. In 2007, 2009 and 2014, Azerbaijan hosted new major competitions – the European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics. In 2015, the events in 6 gymnastics disciplines took place within the framework of the 1st European Games.
