I am pleased to inform you that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is planning to appoint award-winning Malaysian actress Michelle , internationally renowned for her film career, advocacy and philanthropic efforts, as a UNDP Global Goodwill Ambassador.

In this role, Ms. Yeoh will join soccer players Ronaldo de Lima, , lker Casillas, da Silva and ; tennis player Maria Sharapova; American actress Connie Britton, Japanese actress Misako Konno, Spanish actor Antonio Banderas; and Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway.

Ms. Yeoh is passionate about global development issues, which makes her an ideal candidate for promoting UNDP's work and mobilizing support for the Sustainable Development Goals. Some of her contributions include:

• teaming up with UNDP to record an hour-long radio segment for Project Everyone's Radio Everyone, reaching millions of people during the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals in September 2015 • appointment as the Global Ambassador for the "Make Roads Safe" campaign from 201 0 to 2020, as part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety • appointment as the Global Ambassador for the "Live to Love" international network of non-profit organizations in April 2012

• a pledge of $12.5 million for earthquake victims in Nepal in May 2015, together with her partner, president of the Federation lnternationale de !'Automobile (FIA) and UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt.

While she is well known around the world, including in the United States, Ms. Yeoh is particularly influential across Asia and will play an important role in raising UNDP's profile among key audiences in the region.

Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian actress best known in the Western world for her roles in the 1997 film and the multiple Academy Award-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which she was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in 2000.

In 2005, Ms. Yeoh starred in Memoirs of a Geisha, and she continued her English-language work in 2007 with Sunshine. In 2008, Ms. Yeoh also starred in the hit fantasy The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor with and .

In 2008, Ms. Yeoh was ranked as the greatest action heroine of all time. In 2009, she was heralded by People magazine as one ofthe "35 All-Time Screen Beauties," the only Asian actress on the list.

Ms. Yeoh is active in many charitable/nonprofit campaigns worldwide, including the 2013 Zero Discrimination campaign (UNAIDS); 2015 Live to Love Appeal to Help Nepal (she and her fiancee pledged $12.5 million to help the victims of the earthquake); and an address at the General Assembly in New York during the 19th UN Road Safety Collaboration Meeting.

Ms. Yeoh received many awards and honors, including the Officier de Ia Legion d'honneur awarded by then French President in March 2012; the Excellence in Asian Cinema award during the seventh annual Asian Film Awards on March 2013; and Chief Guest at the International Film Festival of India in November 2013.

Her fiancee is FIA President Jean Todt, who is the SG's UN Special Envoy for Road Safety as of April 2015.

Terms of reference for Michelle Yeoh as a Goodwill Ambassador

The Goodwill Ambassador (GWA) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) upholds the vision of the United Nations Charter in general, and in particular the objective of promoting and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals set forth in the mandate of UNDP. As a public figure, the GWA serves as a primary catalyst for helping build critical partnerships that will mobilize wider constituencies to achieve a future where poverty is a thing of the past.

UNDP and the GWA will develop a tailor-made programme of activities based on the following objectives:

• Promote the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of UNDP in media interviews andfor appearances at public events • Initiate, undertake and support activities and special events to raise public awareness about and galvanize support for UNDP's efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals around the world. • Visit UNDP projects in developing countries to be able to provide first-hand accounts to diverse audiences of achievements in poverty eradication globally and of the difference that UNDP, the UN system and other partners are making in the lives of people. • Undertake other responsibilities as necessary.

Proposed Goodwill Ambassador Annual Work Plan

MENU OF ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES • Lend image, quote and written content for inclusion on UNDP's website and promotional materials • Take part in mutually agreed upon press interviews and speaking engagements that UNDP generates, and/or incorporate UNDP talking points into your existing media opportunities • Support UNDP's campaigns throughout the year using social media platforms. o About one post per month on average. Depending on campaigns and events at the time, some months won't require any posts while others may need a 2- 3 to help promote a campaign or event. • Support a signature event, such as the UN General Assembly and the Social Good Summit in September, through in-person attendance and/or social media. • Attend UNDP's SQth Anniversary Gala o The gala will be held in New York City in November or December 2016 (exact date to be confirmed) o Invite other celebrities and influencers interested in and passionate about development work to attend the gala and leverage their voice and visibility to help raise awareness of key issues and programs • Accompany UNDP's staff on a field visit to experience UNDP's work first hand • Host an intimate awarenessjfundraising salon event for UNDP in partnership with Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety • Attend a high-level donor event • Record a personal video encouraging support for UNDP for use at future events/fundraisersjofficial website • Attend Goodwill Ambassador appointment ceremony/press conference at UNDP headquarters in New York City
