St. Patrick’s Day
When: March 17 Where: Worldwide What: St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday. St. Patrick’s Day colors used to be blue. Chicago dyes the river green for a couple hours. The real St. Patrick wasn’t really Irish. On St. Patrick’s Day, if you don’t wear green, you’ll get pinched. So make sure you remember to wear green!! LJHS CIRCUIT RIDER March 2019 ~ Page 10
Congratulations Cheerleaders!
3rd Place at ICCA State
The LJHS Cheerleading squad placed 3rd at ICCA State Competition. These girls had to qualify at other competitions in order to get into the state competition. The team had to get at least a 50% score to be able to go to state. 50% may not seem like much, but when you add up all the stunting, jumping, cheering, yelling, and dancing, cheer can be hard. Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday or Pancake Day, refers to events of Carnival celebration. It is celebrated in New Orleans, Louisiana. It starts on Tuesday the 5th, and is celebrated for about two weeks total. The colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green, and gold, which are usually the colors of the bead necklaces and masks. “Change Your Mind” was the season 5 finale of Steven Universe, and I have to say it is phenomenal. So much happened in this 44-minute special that I am just awestruck.
The episode showed so I also got to see what many new fusions fans happens when Steven’s have been longing for ever gem is pulled out. The since we found out scene where Steven and Steven could fuse. Pink Steven reunite was Rainbow 2.0, Sunstone, and super fluid! I have to give Obsidian were all major props to James wonderful additions to the Baxter, the animator for list of fusions. that scene.
Lastly, my favorite scene is when all of the corrupted gems get uncorrupted. All of the Nephrites were adorable! I was very happy to see Jasper again after 2 seasons. Confidence is something a lot of people need, but too much of it can be bad. Everyone needs to find a medium between being insecure and being cocky. Having confidence is a big key in life. You want to date someone, you ask them out or you want a raise, you ask for a promotion. Stuff like this is important in life now or in the future. Being confident all starts with you being comfortable with yourself. The mirror speech is one of the best ways to actually believe in yourself. If you hear things over and over again, you’ll start to believe it. Start by pointing out your biggest insecurity and reversing how you feel; for example, instead of saying that you are stupid, say that you are smart. Make sure you say it in the mirror, so you really start to believe it about yourself. You can even make your mirror speeches super long or super short. As long as it works for you, it doesn’t matter. Congratulations to the Poms squad!
The LJHS Pom Squad got 2nd place at IESA State Competition. To qualify to get to state you had to have a score of 70. They qualified 3 times!
