The organization:

The SPAW-RAC is the Regional Activity Center for the Protocol Relating to Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife of the Cartagena Convention for the Protection and Enhancement of the Marine Environment of the Greater Region (SPAW ). Locateded in Guadeloupe, this operator of the French Ministry of the Environment was created by an agreement between France and the United Nations Environment Program. It works with partners based across the Caribbean, but also around the world.

The project:

Carib-Coast Carib-Coast, or “Caribbean Network for the Prevention of Coastal Risks Related to ”, is a regional cooperation project which aims to bring together, co-construct and share knowledge about monitoring methods, prevention of coastal risks and adaptation to climate change in the Caribbean; it is implemented by BRGM (the french Geological and Mining Research Bureau) and several partners including SPAW-RAC and its activities operate in Guadeloupe, , , and .

The expected service: Restore and protect a mangrove

The expected service is the realization, over thirteen months (13), of an operation that aim to support the natural restoration and / or active restoration of a mangrove, accompanied by actions to protect this environment. The entire operation must however be carried out over 12 months, which includes the delivery of deliverables. The last month (the 13th) is devoted to the analysis, by the SPAW RAC, of the carried out operations. The operation can be carried out throughout the Greater Caribbean Region, but applications from SIDS (Small Developing States), or from Carib Coast partner countries (Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico) or the Contracting States of the SPAW Protocol, when the sustainability of the operation seems guaranteed, will be studied in first place. This support operation for the natural restoration and / or active restoration of a mangrove, be accompanied by a range of innovative actions to enhance the natural heritage and involve local communities, in order to guarantee the acceptability of the operation and thus improve its long-term success.

To apply : The candidate will have to justify the potential for success over time of the restoration and the protection devices: biological, ecological and socio-economic parameters.
