Publicado por: Ciro Bianchi Ross En páginas precedentes, al abordar el tema de la mafia en Cuba, este escribidor aludió, en lo esencial, a las figuras de Meyer Lansky y Santo Trafficante. El primero era el capo de los capos en la Isla, el número uno, gracias a sus relaciones con el Gobierno cubano, en los círculos del juego de azar en La Habana. Lansky tenía metido en el bolsillo al dictador Fulgencio Batista. Trafficante no llegaba a tanto, pero era, después de Lansky, el más poderoso. No eran, por supuesto, los únicos. Enrique Cirules, en su libro El imperio de La Habana, que mereció premio Casa de las Américas, menciona asimismo a Amadeo Barletta y a Amletto Battisti Lora como cabecillas de sus propias familias. Barletta había nacido en Calabria, sur de Italia, en 1896, y tres años antes nacía Battisti, en El Salto, Uruguay. Barletta llegó a La Habana en 1939. Battisti, en 1936. En una escala que, en orden descendente, va del 1 al 5, Guillermo Jiménez, en su libro Los propietarios de Cuba; 1958, otorga a ambos sujetos la categoría 2.
