Legal Deposit and Official Publications Repositories Legal deposit is a statutory provision that requires all publishers, State entities, private and commercial organisations, and individuals to deposit one or more copies of a publication to the designated places of legal deposit. The NLSA promotes Legal Deposit to create awareness and to strengthen engagements with provinces to designate Official Publications Depositories in line with section 6(2) and (3) of the Legal Deposit Act 54 of 1997. Building awareness of the provisions of the Act and promotion of ISBN and ISN to enhance legal deposit of material. The Legal Deposit Committee is appointed by the Minister of Arts and Culture, consists of all heads of places of legal deposit, Head of Government Printing Works and two representatives of the publishing sector.
