RVTS TARGETED RECRUITMENT The Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) is assisting the recruitment of doctors to targeted remote communities with high medical workforce need by including the RVTS GP Vocational Training program as a component of the doctor recruitment package. In 2018-20 the RVTS Targeted Recruitment Strategy successfully secured the services of 11 full-time doctors to 13 rural and remote communities across Australia. RVTS Training is a four-year GP training program delivered by Distance Education and Remote Supervision leading to Fellowship of the ACRRM and/or RACGP. RVTS Training is fully funded by the Australian Government.

Mid Eyre Medical delivers an innovative model of general practice, providing diverse patient-centred primary health care and hospital-based services to the communities of Cleve, Kimba, Cowell, and Elliston.

The team operates primarily from Cleve to support the four rural hospitals. The practice is owned and managed by the Eyre and Far North Local Health Network. The team of GPs is supported by administration staff, a practice nurse and a full-time practice manager.

Mid Eyre Medical provides primary and emergency health care to more than 3000 people. The emergency on-call roster is a 1:4 arrangement, allowing for a work-life balance. The other GPs in the practice offer support to their colleagues to ensure safe patient care and good self-care.

The network comprises: Cleve Hospital with 20 acute and additional aged care beds; Cowell and District Hospital has 12 acute and 18 aged care beds; Elliston and District Hospital has six acute and 15 aged care beds specialising in dementia services; Kimba and Districts Hospital has 12 acute and 19 aged care beds.
