They have experienced mixed fortunes in the competition since then, failing to qualify in 1984 and 1992 but reaching the final in both 2000 and 2012. The Azzurri won their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying group with room to spare, remaining undefeated in their ten matches to secure their place at the finals for the sixth time in a row. EURO pedigree Matches played Overall: P141 W77 D45 L19 F220 A97 Final tournament: P33 W13 D15 L5 F33 A25 Qualifying: P108 W64 D30 L14 F186 A72 Italy's sole UEFA European Championship success came in Rome in 1968 when, under coach Ferruccio Valcareggi and with Dino Zoff in goal, Yugoslavia were beaten 2-0 in a final replay two days after a 1-1 draw. The Azzurri came close to adding a second European title in 2000, Sylvain Wiltord's last-gasp equaliser for France denying them before David Trezeguet ended their dreams with an extra-time golden goal. There was more heartbreak in 2012, but a 4-0 loss to Spain was hardly close – indeed, that marks the most one-sided EURO final to date. Semi-finalists in 1980 and 1988, Italy have reached every tournament since 1992, when they were edged out by the Commonwealth of Independent States in qualifying. Memorable EURO matches 28/06/2012: Germany 1-2 Italy, UEFA EURO 2012 semi-finals Two Balotelli goals and a fine overall display helped Italy eliminate their fancied opponents. 29/06/2000: Netherlands 0-0 Italy (1-3 on pens), UEFA EURO 2000 semi-finals Down to ten men, Zoff's side overcame a side that twice failed from the spot in regulation time. 10/06/1968: Italy 2-0 Yugoslavia, 1968 UEFA European Championship final Goals from Luigi Riva and Pietro Anastasi sealed Italy's only EURO title to date. Did you know? Italy hosted the first eight-team final tournament in 1980 but had to settle for fourth place after losing a third-place play-off on penalties to Czechoslovakia. *Last updated on 18/11/15 3 UEFA EURO 2016 - FINAL TOURNAMENT DRAW Saturday 12 December 2015 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Press kit Paris, France Italy - Coach profile Antonio Conte Date of birth: 31 July 1969 Nationality: Italian Playing career: US Lecce, Juventus Coaching career: AC Siena (assistant), USD Arezzo, AS Bari, Atalanta BC, AC Siena, Juventus, Italy • A combative and versatile midfielder, Conte also weighed in with his share of goals – usually spectacular. • Made Serie A debut with hometown club Lecce aged 16 in 1985/86 but was not a regular until 1988/89 when his side returned to the top flight after two seasons away. Joined Juventus in November 1991. • Spent the next 13 seasons at Juve, later describing the famous black-and-white shirt as his "second skin". After leading Bari and Siena to the top flight in 2009 and 2011 respectively, he signed a two-year contract with Juventus. • Wasted no time in revamping the squad and enjoyed a debut season to remember as the Bianconeri claimed the Scudetto without losing a single game, suffering their sole defeat of the season against SSC Napoli in the Coppa Italia final. Appointed Italy coach on a two-year deal a month later, he guided the Azzurri undefeated to UEFA EURO 2016. 4 UEFA EURO 2016 - FINAL TOURNAMENT DRAW Saturday 12 December 2015 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Press kit Paris, France Italy - Team facts EURO record Pld W D L GF GA Overall 141 77 45 19 217 97 Final tournament 33 13 15 5 33 25 Qualifying 108 64 30 14 184 72 UEFA European Championship records: Italy History 2012 – runners-up 2008 – quarter finals 2004 – group stage 2000 – runners-up 1996 – group stage 1992 – did not qualify 1988 – semi-finals 1984 – did not qualify 1980 – fourth place 1976 – did not qualify 1972 – did not qualify 1968 – winners 1964 – did not qualify 1960 – did not enter Final tournament win 2-0: five times, most recently v Republic of Ireland, 18/06/12 Final tournament loss 4-0: Spain v Italy, 01/07/12 Qualifying win 6-0: Italy v Turkey, 02/12/62 Qualifying loss 0-3: Italy v Sweden, 15/10/83 Final tournament appearances 13: Paolo Maldini 13: Alessandro Del Piero 13: Gianluigi Buffon 13: Antonio Cassano 11: Gianluca Zambrotta 11: Andrea Pirlo Final tournament goals 3: Mario Balotelli 3: Antonio Cassano 2: Pierluigi Casiraghi 2: Filippo Inzaghi 2: Andrea Pirlo 2: Francesco Totti Overall appearances 54: Gianluigi Buffon 37: Andrea Pirlo 35: Fabio Cannavaro 33: Paolo Maldini 32: Alessandro Del Piero 28: Daniele De Rossi 28: Giorgio Chiellini Overall goals 14: Filippo Inzaghi 5 UEFA EURO 2016 - FINAL TOURNAMENT DRAW Saturday 12 December 2015 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Press kit Paris, France 10: Luigi Riva 9: Alessandro Altobelli 9: Alessandro Del Piero 9: Antonio Cassano UEFA EURO and FIFA World Cup campaigns Season Competition Result Pld W D L GF GA 2016 EURO qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group 10 7 3 0 16 7 2014 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 10 6 4 0 19 9 2012 EURO finals Final 6 2 3 1 6 7 2012 EURO qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 10 8 2 0 17 2 2010 World Cup finals Final tournament - Group stage, 4th in group 3 0 2 1 4 5 2010 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 10 7 3 0 18 7 2008 EURO finals Quarter-finals 4 1 2 1 3 4 2008 EURO qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 12 9 2 1 22 9 2006 World Cup finals Final 7 5 2 0 12 2 2006 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 10 7 2 1 17 8 2004 EURO finals Final tournament - Group stage, 3rd in group 3 1 2 0 3 2 2004 EURO qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 8 5 2 1 17 4 2002 World Cup finals Round of 16 4 1 1 2 5 5 2002 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 8 6 2 0 16 3 2000 EURO finals Final 6 4 1 1 9 4 2000 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 1st in group (qualified) 8 4 3 1 13 5 1998 World Cup finals Quarter-finals 5 3 2 0 8 3 1998 World Cup qualifying Play-off for Final Tournament (qualified) 10 6 4 0 13 2 1996 EURO finals Final tournament - Group stage, 3rd in group 3 1 1 1 3 3 1996 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 2nd in group (qualified) 10 7 2 1 20 6 1994 World Cup finals Final 7 4 2 1 8 5 1994 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 10 7 2 1 22 7 1992 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 2nd in group 8 3 4 1 12 5 1990 World Cup finals 3rd place 7 6 1 0 10 2 1988 EURO finals Semi-finals 4 2 1 1 4 3 1988 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 1st in group (qualified) 8 6 1 1 16 4 1986 World Cup finals Round of 16 4 1 2 1 5 6 1984 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 4th in group 8 1 3 4 6 12 1982 World Cup finals Winner 7 4 3 0 12 6 1982 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 2nd in group (qualified) 8 5 2 1 12 5 1980 EURO finals 4th place 4 1 3 0 2 1 1978 World Cup finals 4th place 7 4 1 2 9 6 1978 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 6 5 0 1 18 4 1976 EURO qualifying Preliminary round, 3rd in group 6 2 3 1 3 3 1974 World Cup finals Final tournament - Group stage, 3rd in group 3 1 1 1 5 4 1974 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 6 4 2 0 12 0 1972 EURO qualifying Quarter-finals 8 4 3 1 13 6 1970 World Cup finals Final 6 3 2 1 10 8 1970 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 4 3 1 0 10 3 1968 EURO finals Winner 3 1 2 0 3 1 1968 EURO qualifying Quarter-finals (qualified) 8 6 1 1 21 6 6 UEFA EURO 2016 - FINAL TOURNAMENT DRAW Saturday 12 December 2015 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Press kit Paris, France UEFA EURO and FIFA World Cup campaigns 1966 World Cup finals Final tournament - Group stage, 3rd in group 3 1 0 2 2 2 1966 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 1st in group (qualified) 6 4 1 1 17 3 1964 EURO qualifying Round of 16 4 2 1 1 8 3 1962 World Cup finals Final tournament - Group stage, 3rd in group 3 1 1 1 3 2 1962 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round (qualified) 2 2 0 0 10 2 1958 World Cup qualifying Qualifying round, 2nd in group 4 2 0 2 5 5 1954 World Cup finals
