The 7th Conference of European Survey Research Association welcomes you to the fashionable city of Lisbon! Lisbon, the most westerly capital in mainland Europe, is one of the few cities in the world to offer a unique natural landscape. It’s for sure one of the most impressively located, with a series of hills facing the Tejo estuary, one of the sunniest and probably one of the least expensive cities to discover. Being a city built on hills, from the various belvederes, installed in the highest points, can enjoy breathtaking views. We highlight the castle of S. Jorge, where we reach the cacilheiros in their crossing to the south bank, the 25th April bridge, Rossio, Carmo convent, Bairro Alto, Eduardo VII park, among other points of the city. Alongside the old city, with a very rich heritage, Lisbon is also a modern city that has been renewed in new cultural and leisure proposals. In this document you can find out more about the places you cannot miss in this city – excursions, restaurants and bars, among others. SEEINGLISBON A GUIDE TO GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR STAY magentablackcyanyellow ES959734_OTECG0817_cv1.pgs 08.22.2017 19:44 ADV It‘s Better, It‘s Different – Welcome to the city of discoverers Vasco da Gama began his ingenious discovery tours in the city on the western edge of Europe and greatly enhanced people’s conception of the world. He strongly questioned some approaches to knowledge and paved the way for trade with India. Following his achievements, Lisbon enjoyed a time of great prosperity that came to a sudden end following the disastrous earthquake in 1755. What we experience as an impressive city image today, especially the Baixa, was created in the 18th century. Only the Torre de Belém still reminds us of the time of great sailors and their untiring spirit of discovery. Of course, the time of individual explorations is long past, but the urge for new knowledge has remained unchanged. Today, it is a great number of people who work on the front lines with curiosity, diligence and persistence to bring about progress. They have come to Lisbon as well, to make new discoveries by sharing scientific and practical approaches. Not only in lectures, workshops and discussions but also in dialogues with industry, at the Oertli booth for example. Discover the total range of cataract and posterior segment surgical platforms, the latest functions of the OS4 device, an amazingly simple MIGS method and the new FEELceps line, or simply discover the friendliness and competence of our employees at booth no P263. We warmly welcome you! magentablackcyanyellow

  • Lisbon's Immigrant
Costas CAPA Lisbon’s Immigrant Roadmap A useful tool for the immigrant ci!zen, to find en!!es and/or services that address the issues of their integra!on in this city 3 4 Lisbon’s Immigrant Roadmap 5 Lisbon’s Immigrant Roadmap The geo-strategic positioning of Lisbon grants it the status of crossroad between Europe and Africa, between Mediterranean and Atlantic, a point of both arrivals and departures, meeting and culture exchange place, space for learning tolerance in diversity. On the other hand, cities are multiple identities, plural and hybrid, and the diversity of cultural, ex- pression, practices, languages and artistic contents must be an essential asset to preserve and to promote the several dimensions of city policies. The Action Plan of the Social Rights Councillor for the years 2014-2017 at Lisbon’s City Council establishes as an area of action the “Interfaith Dialogue”, having as a goal “to value the cultural and religious diversity of the city”. It is in this context that a set of actions is expected – services, programs and tools – to support and promote the inclusion of immigrants. “Lisbon’s Immigrant Roadmap” is one of the actions established in the Plan, a “support tool” to all the newcomers to Lisbon, in which several needed services are identified such as: Tax Authorities, Healthcare Centres, Hospitals, Embassies, Job Centres, Foreigners and Borders Service, as well as many associations representative of their country of origin. To the Lisbon’s City Council, the reception of those who look for us, the appreciation of the different communities, the recognition of difference is the contribution for the solidary development of the city and all its citizens.

Article Commodifying Lisbon: A Study on the Spatial Concentration of Short-Term Rentals Iago Lestegás 1,*, João Seixas 2 and Rubén-Camilo Lois-González 3 1 Institute for Studies and Development of Galicia, University of Santiago de Compostela, 15782 Santiago de Compostela, Spain 2 Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, New University of Lisbon, 1069-061 Lisbon, Portugal; [email protected] 3 Department of Geography, University of Santiago de Compostela, 15782 Santiago de Compostela, Spain; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: (+34) 881 814 467 Received: 10 December 2018; Accepted: 22 January 2019; Published: 25 January 2019 Abstract: This article explores the relationship between the spatial concentration of short-term rentals in Lisbon’s historic center and the phenomena of uneven development and tourism gentrification. By providing quantitative and qualitative evidence of the uneven geographic distribution of tourist apartments within the municipality of Lisbon, it contributes to the study of the new processes of neoliberal urbanization in the crisis-ridden countries of Southern Europe. It argues that the great share of whole-home rentals and the expansion of the short-term rental market over the housing stock are symptoms of the commodification of housing in the neoliberal city. Due to the loss of consumption capacity by the Portuguese society amid crisis and austerity, real estate developers target external markets and local households must compete for access to a limited housing stock with tourists and other temporary city users. The subsequent global rent gap stimulates the proliferation of vacation rentals at the expense of the supply of residential housing, fueling property prices and jeopardizing housing affordability.

  • Analysis of the Main Determinants of Price in Housing Buildings in Lisbon
Analysis of the Main Determinants of Price in Housing Buildings in Lisbon Parishes of Arroios, Beato, Marvila, Olivais, Penha de França, Santa Clara and São Vicente Carolina Pais Correia [email protected] Instituto Superior Técnico May 2019 Abstract The purpose of this research is to disclose the determinants of the sale price of residential properties in the city of Lisbon, particularly in the parishes of Arroios, Beato, Marvila, Olivais, Penha de França, Santa Clara and São Vicente. This work was based on a database with information on real estate sold in the municipality of Lisbon from 2008 to 2017, with a sample of 1986 properties sold in the parishes under study. For each parish, two models of property price prediction were developed using two statistical tools: multiple linear regression model and generalized linear model. The most recurrent predictive variables were the year of construction and the state of conservation of the property, and these variables tend to have a high weight. The quarter, the existence of an extra floor in the property and the existence of charges are not predictive variables of any of the parishes. The area, which normally has a great weight in the definition of real estate prices, is predictive on only three parishes and presents a very low weight. This is because the independent variable, the price of real estate, is given in the form of price per square meter, removing the largest contribution of the area on the property value. Comparing the two models of each parish, it is observed that the generalized linear model always has a better fit.
