The best part as usual was seeing old friends and meeting new ones. These Swift atten- dees were a hardy bunch and expended a lot of energy and ingenuity in getting there. lt seems we July 29-August 4 were totally surrounded by weather...surely an unprecedented occurrence for us....but somehow Oshkosh, Wl some of our pilots got through all the way from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Florida and one intrepid pilot....Roger Weber....from Oregon. Paul Marcandetti, Jim Roberts and Jack Meyer did their usual fine job over the hot grill with steaks, burgers and some really nice September 4-8, 2013 salmon.... despite a steady downpour...a nice trick if you can do it. Woodruff, SC At the Friday evening med we were pleased that McMinn County Mayor john Gentry and Couiriy Airport Cominitiee Cha;rinai'l David Crews were able to attend. These two gentlemen have been very suPPortive of Swift and a large part of our success in tetting our new facilities is due to them. We look forward to continued success with McMinn County in eventually completing our proiects. 2013 Reno Air Races ln order to pull off a Swift National at Athens it September I l-15, 2013 takes a lot of hard work to get the old FBO building and hangar suitable for occupancy. Pam and Jack Nunley along with Ken Coughlin really had a job to do since it had been two years since we last held National at Athens. We all owe them hearty thanks for all their hard work, late perseverance. The good news is this RRSW Fall Fly-ln nights and is the last time we will be in that old dingy build- Pecan Plantation ing to host our National since it will be torn down later this year after the new FBO building OcL 3l-Nov 3 near our new Swift Headquarters is finished. How does the saying go: "l don't know how I could make it much clearer...happiness is the'Old FBO' in the rear view mirror." Having said that, we DID have some great times in that old building over the years. And for many there are lots of memories, visions and personal remembrances from those years. The route was McMinn Co to Sandy Mercandecti Monroe Co, to Dayton, then Cleveland, and back to McMinn. At each stop a card was selected for the poker hand that was played after landing.
