By bringing together some of the nation’s most aspiring, young, forward-thinking talent to the startup ecosystem, VFA is able to impact and transform emerging cities across the nation through fast- paced startups and entrepreneurial experiences. Fellows acquire the hands-on skills and guidance while companies gain access to a talented pool of start-up future leaders. Venture for America started in 2011 with little more than a bold vision, a handful of tirelessly dedicated team members, $200,000 in funding and the audacious belief that these ingredients could create something transformative. After six years in operation, with a budget that had grown over 30x, hundreds of incredible Fellows and Alumni, and a full-time team of over 30, the VFA team set out on a new strategic planning process to assess progress and formally chart a path forward. Vision 2020: Setting Our Sights on the Future resulted in a new mission statement, the identification of three key program pillars to achieve this mission, the creation of a strategy screen used to evaluate all new and existing initiatives, and much more. -

We also took a creative risk and produced our musical in our smaller theater. The compromise was that our box office numbers were not as strong as they’ve been in years past. We are proud of the work we did in the past season because audience members who visited our spaces came away offering near-universal acclaim for our work. We were also pleased to welcome an appreciative crowd of local high school students to the theater for our performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. With the 2012 Republican presidential primary race in high gear this fall, students packed buses to nearby New Hampshire to meet presidential candidates as the IOP conducted timely younger voter public opinion research in Iowa and the Granite State. Welcome to the Institute of Politics at Harvard University Trey Grayson, Director The 2012 election cycle is in high gear, and the past six months have been fast- paced at the Institute. As you will note in this newsletter, the IOP has been at the forefront of election and campaign-related programming, with events, conferences and younger voter research unavailable anywhere else. One of my biggest goals since beginning service as the Institute’s Director has been to improve how the IOP utilizes technology – in an effort to maximize efficiency internally and best distribute and share our content externally to audiences inter- ested in politics and public service. Toward this end, we are very pleased this month to unveil the new online home for John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum programming at www.jfkjrforum.org (see feature on next page). The new microsite not only has a state-of-the art design but also can broadcast Forum programming in a format allowing Forum events to be streamed live or viewed later on any computer or device, including iPads and iPhones. We are also hard at work building a new IOP-wide website – scheduled to be completed next fall – which improves our current website layout and better integrates key online content from Institute students and student publications like the Harvard Political Review. -

Post-Graduate Transitional Programs WHAT IS A TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM? • A six-month to two-year structured program with a defined application and selection process. • An opportunity for service learning, to explore a career field, or to gain experience before starting graduate or professional school. • Transitional programs may pay a salary, a stipend or help pay back student loans. This report summarizes the responses from August and December 2016, May 2017 Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree recipients. The school awarded 402 undergraduate degrees. Career Services received 354 responses, representing an 88% response rate. The overall average salary of the employed respondents rose by 3.8% to $90,905. As in previous years, engineers have the highest reported average starting salary of all Bachelor’s level students at Penn, and a higher average salary than the national average for engineers. The average salary of Penn Engineering majors (not including computer science related) was $79,357 compared to the national average of $64,530. Graduates in computer related majors at Penn averaged $104,630 compared to the national average of $74,183. The average salaries for all SEAS majors was higher than the national averages provided by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, NACE Salary Survey, Fall 2017 Executive Summary. -

74 Finalists Selected in Race to Address Jobs Crisis Philadelphia Area’s Baker Industries, Career Wardrobe, NPower Pennsylvania, Opportunity Finance Network and Programs Employing People Among Groups Vying to Outraise the Field Starting Inauguration Day *** full list of finalists at bottom *** Palo Alto, CA – Jan 14, 2012 – On Inauguration Day, when politicians return to Washington to face the same jobs crisis, 74 organizations will begin a crowd funding competition to demonstrate who has the most promising, scalable employment solutions. They are finalists in the JobRaising Challenge, an innovative competition to help job‐creating nonprofits raise money and publicity. The Skoll Foundation, The Huffington Post, and knowledge partner McKinsey & Company have selected the most innovative, feasible, and scalable candidates of the 210 applicants representing 31 states and 110 cities across America. Starting on Monday, January 21st, the American people can choose to donate to one or more of these organizations. Top fundraisers will be eligible for $250,000 in prizes by The Skoll Foundation. The finalists represent innovative ideas to help fight the jobs crisis.
