Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre closes to public during FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

Edmonton’s Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre will close to the public for three weeks to accommodate the athletic, coaching, administration and security needs of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The closure is scheduled from July 26 – August 18, with the facility reopening Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Commonwealth patrons are invited to visit the City’s other rec facilities during the shutdown, including Mill Woods Recreation Centre, Confederation Recreation Centre, Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre and . Edmonton is one of four Canadian cities (Montreal, Moncton, Toronto) chosen to host this prestigious sporting event. The City will host seven matches at , including group matches and a quarter final match over a three-week period. Connected to Commonwealth Stadium, ’s premiere athletic facility, Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre offers world-class amenities including a field house, fitness centre, gymnasium and aquatic centre. The proximity of the centre’s facilities to Commonwealth Stadium advances Edmonton’s ability to attract, and host, international sporting events which enhance Edmonton’s reputation internationally, generates significant revenue for our city, and helps diversify our economy.
