A Gift of Miracles’ ‘A GIFT OF MIRACLES’ CAST BIOS RACHEL BOSTON (Darcy Miller) – Born and raised in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Rachel Boston fell in love with theater at the age of 7 when she was cast in a church production of We Like Sheep. At the age of 17, Boston moved to New York City to pursue an acting career. She received a scholarship to study at New York University and also studied at Fordham University and The Actor's Center. Boston currently stars alongside Julia Ormond and Jenna Dewan-Tatum in the new Lifetime series “Witches of East End” and TV Guide recently included Boston in their 2013 “Hot List” issue. For her starring role as Mindy in the independent feature “The Pill,” Boston was honored with the “Stargazer Award” for the most talented emerging actress at the Gen Art Film Festival in New York City, the “Best Actress” Award from the San Diego Film Festival and the “Emerging Artist” Award from the Big Apple Film Festival. Filmed in Manhattan, “The Pill,” which also took home the “Gen Art Film Festival Audience Award,” opened in theaters in 2012 and is currently available on DVD, VOD and iTunes. She previously appeared with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in the Golden Globe® nominated film "500 Days of Summer," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win an Independent Spirit Award for “Best Screenplay.” She also co-starred alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.” Boston recently starred opposite Julia Stiles, America Ferrara and David Cross in the indie comedy, “It’s A Disaster,” which was distributed theatrically by Oscilloscope. The Village Voice called the film “perhaps the first great apocalypse potluck comedy.” Boston plays the role of Lexi Kivel, the funny and whip-smart wildcard who happens to play the glockenspiel. After a successful run on the festival circuit and at Comic-Con in 2012, “It’s A Disaster” is also available on VOD and iTunes. In 2011, Boston joined the hit television series “In Plain Sight,” in the role of Detective Abigail Chaffee. Tough but with southern charm, Abigail soon became the love interest to Marshall Mann. “In Plain Sight” completed its fifth and final season in New Mexico. During her hiatus from “In Plain Sight,” Boston executive produced and starred in the film “Black Marigolds,” which reunited her with Noah Bean, her co-star from “The Pill.” The film follows a young married couple, Kate (Boston) and Ryan (Bean), as they set off into the wilderness. Ultimately a love story, “Black Marigolds” was filmed in Palomar Mountain and premiered in April 2013 at The Boston International Film Festival, where it received the “Special Recognition Award.” Previously, Boston starred on the CBS series "The Ex List" as Daphne Bloome, the free-spirited sister of Bella Bloome played by Elizabeth Reeser. Some of her guest-starring appearances (more) HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES/ ‘A GIFT OF MIRACLES’ – Cast Bios – Page 2 include "Grey's Anatomy," "Curb Your Enthusiasm, "ER," "Rules of Engagement" and "The Closer." She had recurring roles on ABC's "Scoundrels" with Virginia Madsen and the CBS comedy "Mad Love." She also produced and starred in the Lifetime musical comedy “Holiday High School Reunion,” which aired through the 2012 Christmas season and starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie “A Ring by Spring.” Boston began her career in television on NBC’s award-winning series “American Dreams,” playing Beth Mason, the strong-willed girlfriend to J.J. Pryor (Will Estes). On the one-hour drama set in the 1960’s, Beth brought a wave of female independence and a voice of modern- day opinions as she laid the groundwork for the ever-changing world issues, including equality for women. The “American Dreams” cast & crew reunited in June 2013 for a panel discussion at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, TX. ### RITA MORENO (Beverly) – At just 83 years young, Rita Moreno remains one of the busiest stars in show business. In January 2014, Moreno received the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Last Spring, Moreno lent her voice as Aunt Mimi in the highly anticipated animated film, “Rio 2.” Her first book, Rita Moreno: A Memoir, published by Celebra last March, instantly became a New York Times bestseller. In 2011, she premiered her one-woman show, Life Without Make-up, an original play about her life and appeared regularly as Fran Drescher's mother in the TVLand series “Happily Divorced.” In addition, Moreno frequently travels for concerts and lectures. Such creative diversity has been the hallmark of Moreno's nearly 70-year career. She belongs to an elite group of only eight living performers who have won entertainment’s grand slam of the industry's most prestigious awards: The Oscar®, The Emmy®, The Tony® and The Grammy®. Her Oscar® win came in 1962 as Latina spitfire Anita in the film version of “West Side Story” for which she also won a Golden Globe®. The Tony® was for her 1975 comedic triumph as Googie Gomez in Broadway's The Ritz. The Grammy® was for her 1972 performance on The Electric Company Album, based on the long-running children's television series. She won not one, but two Emmy Awards®—the first for a 1977 variety appearance on “The Muppet Show” and the following year for a dramatic turn on “The Rockford Files.” Over the decades, Moreno has collected dozens of other show business awards, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995. A favorite of Chicago audiences and critics, Moreno received that city's coveted Joseph Jefferson Award in 1968 as Serafina in The Rose Tatoo and in 1985 she was awarded the prestigious Sara Siddons Award for her hilarious portrayal of Olive Madison in the female version of The Odd Couple. Moreno was born Rosa Dolores Alverio in Humacao, a small town near the Puerto Rican rain forest. At age five, she moved with her mother to New York where the precocious child soon began dance lessons. She made her Broadway debut at just 13 in Skydrift, starring Eli Wallach. Then, in true Hollywood tradition, a talent scout spotted her and arranged for the teen to meet MGM mogul Louis B. Mayer, who signed her to a film contract. (more) HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES/ ‘A GIFT OF MIRACLES’ – Cast Bios – Page 3 Moreno’s Hollywood career advanced steadily, including early films with stars such as Richard Widmark, Esther Williams, Mario Lanza, Susan Hayward, Tyrone Power and Gary Cooper. She appeared in the delightful “Singin’ in the Rain” starring Gene Kelly and was featured as Tuptim in the classic “The King and I” with Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr. Although early roles sometimes found her typecast as a Mexican spitfire or Indian maiden, she also broke the Latina mold playing an Irish teacher, an Italian widow, a female evangelist, a proper Englishwoman and a Southern belle. After her Academy Award® for “West Side Story,” Moreno was acknowledged as a major big-screen talent. Other significant film appearances include: “The Night of the Following Day” with Marlon Brando in 1967; with James Garner in “Marlowe;” as Alan Arkin’s girlfriend in “Popi” and in Mike Nichol’s production of “Carnal Knowledge.” She reprised the role of Googie Gomez in the film version of “The Ritz,” followed by Alan Alda’s “The Four Seasons,” Columbia Pictures' acclaimed “I Like it Like That” and “Angus” with George C. Scott. More recently, Moreno starred in the indie feature “Carlo’s Wake” with Christopher Meloni and in “Blue Moon” opposite Ben Cazzara. In addition, she appeared in the highly acclaimed movie “Pinero” starring Benjamin Bratt and in John Sayles film, “Casa de los Babys.” Her long stage career has included starring roles on both sides of the Atlantic. In London, she appeared in Hal Prince’s 1962 production of She Loves Me and in the 1997 West End run of Sunset Boulevard. In New York, Moreno has starred in Lorraine Hansbury’s The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, opposite Robert Shaw in Gantry and with Jimmy Coco in The Last of the Red Hot Lovers. She received a Tony Award® nomination for her role in The National Health in 1974, followed by her 1975 Tony® win for The Ritz. Other New York credits include: Anne Meara's After-Play; Wally’s Café with Jimmy Coco; Circle Rep's The Size of the World; and more recently the female version of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. Moreno's diverse regional theatre roles include Lola in Damn Yankees, Anne Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, Doris in The Owl and the Pussycat and Mama Rose in Gypsy. At Berkeley Rep, she received rave reviews for her interpretation of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's play Master Class in 2004 and, two seasons later, she received similar acclaim for her portrayal of Amanda Wingfield in that company's The Glass Menagerie. Moreno has guest starred on a wide variety of television productions in the U.S. and abroad. She is proud to have been a featured artist for many years on “The Electric Company,” the highly regarded educational show for children. She starred in her own TV series based on the film “9 to 5.” Additionally, she played opposite Burt Reynolds in “B.L. Stryker” and was a series regular with Bill Cosby in NBC’s “The Cosby Mysteries.” In 2007, she starred in the CBS series “Cane” and more recently she was one of the leads in the highly acclaimed HBO series “OZ.” She performs concerts across the country and often appears as a guest artist with symphony orchestras.

  • ETC Marketing Metadata 1.0
ETC Marketing Metadata 1.0 Introduction The explosion of online digital content has heightened the need for complete and accurate marketing metadata to assist consumers in search and discovery of movies and television. In addition, the increase in online distributors with widely different content submission requirements makes the delivery of accurate metadata a time-consuming and difficult process for content owners. For this reason, the Entertainment Technology Center organized the Metadata Working Group to create best-practices for the creation and distribution of marketing metadata. This working group is made up of metadata experts from the major Hollywood Studios, film service, and technology companies. Historically, each digital service provider has created its own metadata specification and required that content providers conform their product information to that format. Unfortunately, the lack of standards underpinning those metadata elements -- their names and definition, and the terms used to populate them -- has confounded efforts to streamline the digital distribution, and ultimately the search and discovery, of content. Some forward-looking groups have sought to simplify the process; MovieLabs and the Entertainment Merchant's Association (EMA), for example, recently released Version 1.0 of the EMA Metadata specification, covering information delivered from publishers to retailers (http://www.entmerch.org/ema_metadata_.html). What is typically missing from the various public metadata documents/specifications are details on how content providers should actually construct metadata. This document begins to scratch the surface on that topic -- tackling first and foremost, descriptive metadata (much of what the EMA specification calls "Basic Metadata"). Our goal in writing this document was to provide a set of best practices, based on the combined wisdom of the metadata experts who produce and distribute digital media for the leading Hollywood studios.
