On this 26th Convocation day, we confer degrees on persons who have graduated in the year 2012. I congratulate all the degree recipients who, on successful completion of their respective courses of studies, will receive degrees from the university today. The convocation day is an important day in everyone’s life. After sincere and hard work during your studentship, today you will be awarded the degree which you rightly deserve. (IIT), Ph.D. (IIT, Kharagpur) Jyoti Vihar - 768019 Vice Chancellor Sambalpur, Odisha PREFACE Sambalpur University, spread over an area of six hundred and seventy acres of land adjacent to Hirakud Dam, was established on the 1st of January, 1967. It has continued to be an active organization for human resource development in Odisha for the last 49 years in the western region of Odisha. It has catered to the academic aspiration of the people of 10 districts, including the underdeveloped Kalahandi and Bolangir districts of the KBK region. The University is committed to imparting quality education at the tertiary level while promoting the social and cultural ethos of Odisha in general and that of the western part of the State in particular. The University has 206 undergraduate colleges affiliated to it, and it has 6 autonomous and 2 constituent colleges with the total student strength of more than 90,000. The University started functioning with three Departments in Science and four Departments in Humanities during the 4th Plan Period. There are now twenty-two Post- graduate Departments on the University Campus aside from a constituent college, called Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT), established in 2010. Many of these Departments have made a name for themselves at the national level, and in certain cases at the international level. The School concept, with the implicit thrust on interdisciplinary studies, emerged in the University for the first time in the State, and the School of Life Sciences evolved from the Department of Biological Sciences.

Festival of Letters 2014
DELHI Festival of Letters 2014 Conglemeration of Writers Festival of Letters 2014 (Sahityotsav) was organised in Delhi on a grand scale from 10-15 March 2014 at a few venues, Meghadoot Theatre Complex, Kamani Auditorium and Rabindra Bhawan lawns and Sahitya Akademi auditorium. It is the only inclusive literary festival in the country that truly represents 24 Indian languages and literature in India. Festival of Letters 2014 sought to reach out to the writers of all age groups across the country. Noteworthy feature of this year was a massive ‘Akademi Exhibition’ with rare collage of photographs and texts depicting the journey of the Akademi in the last 60 years. Felicitation of Sahitya Akademi Fellows was held as a part of the celebration of the jubilee year. The events of the festival included Sahitya Akademi Award Presentation Ceremony, Writers’ Meet, Samvatsar and Foundation Day Lectures, Face to Face programmmes, Live Performances of Artists (Loka: The Many Voices), Purvottari: Northern and North-Eastern Writers’ Meet, Felicitation of Akademi Fellows, Young Poets’ Meet, Bal Sahiti: Spin-A-Tale and a National Seminar on ‘Literary Criticism Today: Text, Trends and Issues’. n exhibition depicting the epochs Adown its journey of 60 years of its establishment organised at Rabindra Bhawan lawns, New Delhi was inaugurated on 10 March 2014. Sri Nagalla Guruprasadarao expressed his gratitude towards the Akademi for the presentation of the Bhasha Samman. He said that among the old poets Mahakavai Tikkana is his favourite. In his writings one can see the panoramic picture of Telugu Language both in usage and expression. He expressed his thanks to Sivalenka Sambhu Prasad and Narla Venkateswararao for their encouragement. Prof. Damodaran briefed the gathering about the Sourashtra dialect, how it migrated from Gujarat to Tamil Nadu and how the Recipients of Bhasha Samman with the President and Secretary of Sahitya Akademi cultural of the dialect has survived thousands of years. He expressed his gratitude to Sahitya Akademi for Sahitya Akademi organised the presentation of Bhasha honouring his mother tongue, Sourashtra. Procedures and policies for maintaining and utilizing physical, academic and support facilities - laboratory, library, sports complex, computers, classrooms etc. Sambalpur University has a University Scientific Instrumentation Centre (USIC), headed by a Professor –in- Charge and run by technical staff. It provides effective and economical services in the repair and maintenance of scientific/ electronic instruments of various laboratories and electrical appliances of academic as well as administrative units. The objectives of this facility are to provide maintenance service to all the sophisticated instruments housed in various departments, and to fabricate instruments and accessories for research purpose. The facilities as shown in following table are available to the faculty members and research scholars. In addition to this USIC takes care of all the electrical maintenance work of the University which includes office, Department, Hostel and residential quarter. The University has a Development and Maintenance Section and University Scientific Instrumentation Center (USIC) to look after the maintenance of buildings, classrooms and laboratories. The infrastructure facilities and services are maintained by the technical personnel such as Asst. Engineer and Junior Engineer, who work under the supervision of the Development Officer. Networking, computers and accessories are managed and maintained by the E-Governance Nodal Centre under AMC. The AMC vendor is stationed on the campus having two dedicated engineers to resolve technical issues. Internet 1 GB link under NMEICT/NKN and its services are completely maintained and managed by the expertise of computer centre in-house.
