Bad Vibrations

I have a body vibration at 55 mph and over that is hard to diagnose. Anyone up for the challenge?

2004 330 Ci ( aka BABY) manual trans M package original rims Uniroyal Tiger Paw less than 2k miles ( don't laugh put them on while car sat for projects) original owner 160,000 miles no accidents

Problem has been getting worse over past year/5k miles

Car has sat for upholstery work and body detail work total of 2 months in last 3 tires don't appear to have any flat spots

Had local shop and Dealer BOTH check rims, balance, alignment all good

had front lower control arms replaced

vibration similar to what you would get when braking with warped rotors but more general to the entire car

some of the vibration is felt in the

Shifting to neutral at (eg) 75 mph doesn't reduce syx

Acceleration up to high rpm ( 5 to 6K) doesn't create syx until reaching problem speed of 55+

Dealer says pull the tiger paws off to further trouble shoot. Local shop that recommended tires ( given project car would be stilling an is only driven @ 5k in past year). Local shop suggests pulling and U joint.

Likely unrelated ( engine compression is good but M54 engine oil compression ring wear w some oil loss 1 qt every 3k or so ) while sitting in drivers seat at idle hear a tick sound every 3 seconds.

Read Dave Zeckhausen`s white paper on "Brake Bedding', and perform that procedure.

Was your steering giubo ("Flex disc") ever replaced ?

If your car came with a staggered wheel setup, are you sure all are mounted in their correct location ?

BTW, there were never any "M Package" E46s sold in this country....Sport Pkg., Performance Pkg. (aka/ ZHP), yes, but no M Pkg. ______

I believe it will be in the tires from sitting. The side walls can get a soft or hard spot in them that is hard to detect visually. If you can find a shop that does "Road Force" balancing it may be detected by the . Basically while the assembly is being balanced, a wheel that will put about 200 lbs of pressure on the to check it.

E46 Steering Coupler DIY

Staggered wheels have narrower wheels & tires on the front, and wider ones on the back. Also check to be sure the tires were mounted on the correct wheels (don`t laugh, stranger things have happened )

No need to check the bill of sale, I can see by the photo that you have the Sport Pkg. Nice car ! ______
