The Police Synchronicity II Synchronicity II The Police Another suburban family morning Grandmother screaming at the wall We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies We can't hear anything at all Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration But we know all her suicides are fake Daddy only stares into the distance There's only so much more that he can take Many miles away Something crawls from the slime At the bottom of a dark Scottish lake Another industrial ugly morning The factory belches filth into the sky He walks unhindered through the picket lines today He doesn't think to wonder why The secretaries pout and preen like Cheap tarts in a red light street But all he ever thinks to do is watch And every single meeting with his so-called superior Is a humiliating kick in the crotch Many miles away Something crawls to the surface Of a dark Scottish loch Another working day has ended Only the rush hour hell to face Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes Contestants in a suicidal race Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance He knows that something somewhere has to break He sees the family home now looming in his headlights The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache Many miles away There's a shadow on the door Of a cottage on the shore Of a dark Scottish lake Many miles away, many miles away Tištěno z pisnicky-akordy.cz Sponzor: www.srovnavac.cz - vyberte si pojištění online! Particular attention is given to the unique confluence of the Sufi theme of the "Voyage and the Messenger" and Carl Jung's own personal encounter with the unconscious. The Grateful Dead: Communitas Through Music and Dance . 16 By Ann Vermeer – The author finds a sense of the sacred through the modern ritual of concert- going. The music of the Grateful Dead and the experience of Grateful Dead concerts initiate and transform participants into new states of awareness and being. Epics: Of Ministers, Morticians and Architects . 29 By Terry Pearce – The author shows how the epic novel can recreate the past and project the future; not merely to define a need for change, but to transform that need into a call for progress.

  • The Spiral Dynamics of Cinema Studies Provisionally Drafted by Alex Burns ([email protected])
1 The Spiral Dynamics of Cinema Studies Provisionally Drafted by Alex Burns ([email protected]). Version 0.1 (December 1998) Comment (8th November 2007) I wrote this as a course proposal outline whilst in the Cinema Studies undergraduate program at Australia’s La Trobe University in 1998. I had been studying the Spiral Dynamics® psychological model of levels of human existence for about 18 months, and had also been corresponding with Howard Bloom and Richard Metzger. This represented a first attempt to codify the SD model using film content as examples of the models and dynamics. The artefact is from my ‘early stage’ exploration of the SD model, written with good intent but a novice’s understanding. This document has several limitations. It relied on the SD colour scheme, and prioritised breadth and span over situated depth. The selected films and sequences reflected several personal theories about media analysis and the scientific debate on memetics and were heavily influenced by the pre-millennial sub-currents of the mid- to-late 1990s. I hadn’t taken the SD practitioner training I and II at the time. My knowledge of Cinema Studies frameworks and models also varied. Thus, today I wouldn’t necessarily endorse the films or their SD codification now as correct or representative of the Beck & Cowan model or Clare W. Graves’ original research. This is provided for historical interest and self-research purposes only. I subsequently developed a more precise methodology in 2003 whilst in the Strategic Foresight masters program at Swinburne University. I trialled it in workshops at SD practitioner training and the Australian festival This Is Not Art in 2003 and 2004.

  • Jung on Astrology
Jung on Astrology Jung on Astrology brings together C. G. Jung’s thoughts on astrology in a single volume for the fi rst time, signifi cantly adding to our understanding of his work. Jung’s Collected Works , seminars, and letters contain numerous discussions of this ancient divinatory system, and Jung himself used astrological horoscopes as a diagnostic tool in his analytic practice. Understood in terms of his own psychology as a symbolic representation of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, Jung found in astrology a wealth of spiritual and psychological meaning and suggested it represents the “sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.” The selections and editorial introductions by Safron Rossi and Keiron Le Grice address topics that were of critical importance to Jung – such as the archetypal symbolism in astrology, the precession of the equinoxes and astrological ages, astrology as a form of synchronicity and acausal correspondence, the qualitative nature of time, and the experience of astrological fate – allowing readers to assess astrology’s place within the larger corpus of Jung’s work and its value as a source of symbolic meaning for our time. The book will be of great interest to analytical psychologists, Jungian psy- chotherapists, and academics and students of depth psychology and Jungian and post-Jungian studies, as well as to astrologers and therapists of other orientations, especially transpersonal. Safron Rossi, PhD, is a Professor of mythology and depth psychology in the Jungian and Archetypal Studies specialization at Pacifi ca Graduate Institute, Cali- fornia. For many years she was curator of the Joseph Campbell and James Hillman manuscript collections.

As it is now 2019, I thought an updated introduction for the Cosmocritic audience was called for. Thank you, Garry, for the suggestion. I want to clarify a few points from the original paper and more generally introduce myself. I'm happy you're here, reader and hope you find value in the work that follows. When I originally wrote this thesis for my MA in psychology, I wanted to bridge two disparate worlds that better than anything else I knew, captured the magic of interconnection between people and planet(s). I say magic because it feels that way to me in the moment, in the process of being alive with the earth and becoming aware of my entangled aliveness, in the process of doing astrology. Ecopsychology and astrology are two traditions that live as one in my mind. This paper was my humble attempt to translate each tradition to the other, thus the term, ecological astrology. Ecological astrology is best described in the second chapter of the paper (p. 22). In short, it's an astrology that comes alive through the theories of dialogical psychology and deep ecology in the tradition of David Abram's (1996) Spell of the Sensuous. What results is an embodied, imaginal, experiential cosmic dialogue that is inseparable from the environment in which it is occurring.

This model was expanded upon by musicians in England and Germany during the late-1970s who developed the popular music style called Industrial as a fusion of experimental popular music sounds, performance art theatricality, and avant-garde composition.

  • MTO 17.4: Temperley, Scalar Shift
Volume 17, Number 4, December 2011 Copyright © 2011 Society for Music Theory Scalar Shift in Popular Music David Temperley NOTE: The examples for the (text-only) PDF version of this item are available online at: http://www.mtosmt.org/issues/mto.11.17.4/mto.11.17.4.temperley.php KEYWORDS: rock, popular music, scales, modality, expression ABSTRACT: Existing approaches to scales in popular music do not do justice to the variety of scale collections that are used or to their expressive effects. In this article I propose a novel approach to this problem, focusing particularly on shifts of scale within songs. The idea is simple: The scale-degree content of a song (or a section of a song) tends to occupy a certain region on the “line of fifths,” the circle of fifths stretched out infinitely in both directions. Moving outside this region —especially if the move is emphasized (by rhythmic, textural, or other means) and involves multiple pitch classes—creates a sense of scalar shift. Scalar shifts can be used in a variety of ways: to delineate and reinforce sectional boundaries; to convey a change in mood or situation, simply through the shift itself, or more specifically through sharpward or flatward motion on the line of fifths; to create a momentary effect of surprise or disorientation; or to construct more complex trajectories of tension and resolution. Received June 2011 1. Scales in Popular Music [1.1] The current study is an attempt to explain certain phenomena in the perception and composition of popular music— phenomena that have puzzled and intrigued me for many years, and that do not seem well accounted for by current theories.
