Abstract Background: Indoor residual spraying (IRS), as one of the malaria control techniques, requires high spraying coverage and acceptance rate by householders, to be effective. Objectives: The main aim of the study was to assess the spraying acceptability and coverage rates in relation to acceptance and rejection reasons of the IRS program. Also, the householders’ perception about IRS benefits and satisfaction with the malaria prevention and knowledge of transmission pathways were estimated. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was performed in endemic districts of Sistan-and Baluchistan province (south-east of Iran), in two years of 2013 and 2014. Data were collected by a validated questionnaire, through interviewing 834 household heads that were randomly selected from 40 villages, of four malarial sub-districts. To analyze the data, chi-squire test was performed, by using SPSS software (Version 18). The significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05. Results: A total of 834 households’ heads were interviewed, with the mean age of 39.5 ± 15.4 years, 73.3% males and 26.7% females. The main sources of information, concerning IRS, were health care workers (51.4%). The IRS coverage and acceptance rates were 96.5% and 94%, respectively. Of the total number of participants, 95.3% of householders associated the disease transmission with mosquito bites and reported the use of insecticidal bed nets (90%) and IRS (74.1%), as important ways of malaria prevention. Conclusions: The study showed that IRS coverage and acceptance rates were relatively high, which is essential in reaching malaria elimination. The information on malaria transmission and knowledge prevention measures showed that householders were, to a certain extent, familiar with the malaria control activities conducted by the health care service. Neptosternus circumductus Régimbart, 1899 has been found in south- eastern Iran, which represents the westernmost record of the Oriental members of the genus Neptosternus Sharp, 1882. The lectotype of N. circumductus is desig- nated, and its male genitalia as well as the variability of the elytral pattern are illustrated, based on additional material from the Sistan va Baluchestan province of Iran. In addition, a list of species and new distributional data are published for the predaceous diving beetles (Dytiscidae) of the Baluchistan region (Sistan va Baluchestan province in Iran and Baluchistan province in Pakistan). The follow- ing first national records are given: Hyphoporus aper Sharp, 1882 from Iran and Pakistan; Nebrioporus indicus (Sharp, 1882), Neptosternus circumductus, and Peschetius quadricostatus (Aubé, 1838) from Iran; Laccophilus maindroni persi- cus Brancucci, 1983 from Pakistan. The occurrence of Laccophilus inefficiens (Walker, 1859) in Iran is confirmed. Altogether 23 species of the family Dytis- cidae are now known from Baluchistan. Keywords. Also included are one family, 7 genera,9 species and 4 subspecies introduced into Iran. Overhalf the species and nearly half the genera are in the family Cypririidae; over75% of the genera and species are in the orderCypriniformes. The fish fauna may be separated into threemajor groups. The largest and nst diverse is the Sannatian Fauna,which includes the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Lake Bezaiyeh, Rhorasan,Isfahan, Dashte-Kavir, and the four subbasins of the Namak LakeBasins. Of the fish found in Iran, 14 of 31 earnilies, 48 of 90 genera,127 of 269 species and 46 of 58 subspecies are found in theSarmatian Fauna. Endemisa is low, and nstly expressed at the subspecific level.The fauna contains marine relicts from the Sannatian Sea and recentinmigrants with strong relationships to the fishes of Europe, the Black Seaand northern Asia. The marine relicts are absent outside the Caspian Sea Basin, where the fauna is best described as a depauperate extensionof the Caspian and Aral Sea faunas. The second major fauna is the Nesopotamian Fauna,and includes the Tigris and Euphrates river Basins, the Karun1iver Basin, and the Kol, nd, Maliarlu, Neyriz and Lar Basins.

In this study, we surveyed the presence of Babesia 23 ovis, Theileria ovis, Theileria lestoquardi, Anaplasma ovis, Anaplasma 24 phagocytophilum, and Anaplasma marginale in 200 goats from 3 different districts in 25 Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran. Species-specific diagnostic PCR and 26 sequence analysis revealed that 1.5%, 12.5%, and 80% of samples were positive for 27 T.

    1 Poverty Maps of Iran Majid Einian1, Davood Souri2 Abstract Poverty maps are shown to be of the best tools in economic policy design in poverty alleviation programs. This study uses small area estimation method to calculate the poverty headcount ratio for rural and urban areas of 397 counties of Iran. We use the “Household Expenditures and Income Survey” (HEIS) 2014 by “Statistical Center of Iran” (SCI), and 2011 Census (a 2% random sample), and some macro county- and province-level data to build models to estimate household per capita expenditures. 60 urban/rural provincial regions are divided into 13 clusters using k-means clustering method. For each of these clusters a model is built to estimate the expenditures. As usual in small area methods, we use survey data to estimate the model parameters and apply the model to census data to estimate the desired variable for each household. Regional poverty headcount ratio is then calculated for each of 794 urban/rural regions of counties. International studies on welfare programs show that most of them use poverty maps in designing a well-targeted program (IMPS 2014).

Accepted May 2, 2006) SUMMARY: Within the years 2001 to 2004, Sistan-va-Baluchestan was the only province with transmission of cholera in Iran. The objective of this study was to determine the epidemiological characteristics of the cholera outbreak that occurred in 2004 in the Sarbaz district in the southern parts of this province. The surveillance data were analyzed, and a matched case-control study was performed. From 22 October to 15 November 2004, from 2,242 diarrhea cases that were sampled for stool culture, 90 cases were positive for Vibrio cholerae O1 El-Tor biotype, serotype Ogawa. Multivariate analysis showed that risk factors for cholera were drinking beverages from street vendors (OR = 10.16, 95% CI: 2.55-40.50), illiteracy (OR = 5.76, 95% CI: 2.63-30.09), no hand washing with soap after toilet use (OR = 22.06, 95% CI: 2.91-167.11), no hand washing with soap before meals (OR = 3.64, 95% CI: 1.03-12.82), sex (OR = 3.73, 95% CI: 1.17-11.89) and eating food left over from previous meals without reheating (OR = 4.03, 95% CI: 1.23-13.18).
