Introduction Knight, Kavanagh & Page Ltd (KKP) was commissioned by the South Essex authorities of Basildon, Castle Point, Rochford and Southend, together with Essex County Council and Sport England, to assess formal indoor sports facility needs in the four local authorities of: Southend-on-Sea. Basildon. Rochford. Castle Point. The output is the provision of four separate needs assessments, four strategies across the aforementioned authorities plus one additional overarching strategy which also encompasses provision in the Thurrock Council area in order to assist strategic planning in South Essex. This report provides a detailed assessment of current provision of indoor and built sports facilities for Southend-on-Sea Borough Council (SBC), identifying needs and gaps in provision. 1.2: Background The following is an overview of Southend-on-Sea. Data is taken from nationally recognised sources such as the Office for National Statistics, NOMIS, Sport England and Experian. It reflects the most up to date information presently available although it should be noted that new data is published regularly, often at different intervals. Purpose of Report To inform members of the current position with regard to the performance of all schools, including those schools causing concern, and to update on known Academy developments. 2. Recommendation For members to note and approve the information in the report. 3. Background Ofsted Inspections Earls Hall primary school was inspected 26 to 27th of June 2018 and the report which judged the school as being good was published 16 July 2018. Cecil Jones Academy received a monitoring visit on 3 July following Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector concerns about the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements at the academy. The report which was published on 12 July, found safeguarding to be effective. Officers track the likelihood of a school inspection based upon the time of its previous full inspection, the judgement, and if and when the school converted to an academy. This is not an exact science, as OFSTED indicate the period for reinspection by stating “in the third/four year of…”. However, our tracking indicates the likelihood of several inspections this academic year. Ofsted Inspection reporting update In July 2018, Ofsted published details of the impact of the changes to the statistical reporting of inspection outcomes. The main change following the consultation is to include the inspection outcomes of predecessor schools in our statistical reporting, where schools have not yet been inspected in their current form (in general this meant Report Title Page 1 of 5 Report Number that academy converters kept their inspection history while sponsor-led academies did not).

Complete the Academy SIF form 9 September (PA) Sports (S) and Performing Arts (PA) aptitude tests to be taken at The Eastwood Academy 14, 19, and 20 by those pupils whose parents have registered for them to take the tests. September (S) Selection test (11+) to be taken by those pupils whose parents have registered for them to 21 September 2019 take the test with the CSSE (www.csse.org.uk). 15 October 2019 Those pupils who took the selection test (11+) will be advised of the outcome by CSSE.
