13 MGOCSM – DIOCESE OF AHMEDABAD ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2016-17

Glory be to the Triune God. With a deep sense of gratitude we hereby present the Annual Report of MGOCSM Ahmedabad Diocese for the year 2015-17. The CWC meeting for planning the year under the review was held on 23.03.2015 under the Presidentship of our Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios. The meeting was attended by the Diocesan Vice-President, Fr. James Geevarghese. In the meeting it was decided that the annual conference of Ahmedabad Diocese will be held bi-annually. For the year 2015- 16 it was decided that all the respective regions coming under the diocese namely Gujarat Region, Rajasthan Region and M.P. Region will conduct a regional conference in the first year. Also all the units under the Diocese were instructed to conduct a one day conference in their respective units. M.P. region was the first to conduct such a meeting and there was whole hearted participation from all the units. Dewas Parish in Madhya Pradesh was the host Parish and the conference was attended by members of Dewas Parish, Indore Parish, Pithampur Parish. The conference was a grand success as many new members from various parishes attended the conference. The Gujarat region conference was held in the month of October and the same was attended by all the participants of Gujarat Region. Baroda Parish was the host Parish for the conference. Fr. Bijesh Philip was the main speaker for the conference. The conference was attended by more than 100 members from various parts of Gujarat making the conference a grand success. As decided in the CWC meeting the Rajasthan Region conference could not be conducted as none of the churches in the region were financially sound to host a conference of regional level. However many of the Parishes in the region conducted a one day conference in their own parish. In the year 2015-16 various events were conducted by various parishes. The most common among them being charity events, Tree plantation activity and Sports meets. Baroda MGOCSM unit and Ahmedabad MGOCSM unit also conducted special counseling classes for the students appearing for the SSC and HSC examinations. During the Lent period the MGOCSM units actively participated in conducting VIGIL and prayer sessions. Ahmedabad unit has started a new initiative by way of a quarterly magazine named SEGTHO. Besides these activities, the youths also meet up often for bible studies, sharing sessions after Church as well as fellowship gatherings to further enhance the relationship and bond of the youth. In the second year 2016-17 also various unit level conferences were held across the Diocese and utmost importance was given to protect the environment theme and to form a connection between our Church and the environment. The main motto was to sustain the environment so that it can also be useful for the future generation. The annual conference of MGOCSM

14 Ahmedabad Diocese was held in Indore from Oct 28-2016 to Oct 30-2016. The conference was attended from all the parts of the diocese. Indore unit was hosting the annual conference for the first time. But under the able guidance of the parish Vicar Rev. Fr. Tiju Iype and Diocesan Vice President Rev. Fr. James Geevarghese the unit was able to host the conference in one of the best ways possible. Our President H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan was the chief guest and the main speaker for the conference. The conference was also graced by the presence of various members from The Coptic Orthodox Church from Egypt. The conference began with a grand welcome to all the dignitaries and the delegates present for the conference. For the first day of the conference, all the classes were conducted by the Priests of the Coptic Orthodox Church along with their kochammas and the team that was with them. It was an altogether a different experience for the delegates as they experienced another way of Orthodoxy from the usual way. The second day of the conference started with Holy Qurbana which was celebrated by the Priests from The Coptic Orthodox Church. The third day of the conference began with the Holy Qurbana and the Chief celebrant being our Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios.
