Evidently, enough people were making podcasts, listening to them, or at least uttering the word podcast in everyday contexts to warrant the accolade. Despite occasioning a media sensation, the actual extent of podcasting is still unknown. The thesis analyses podcasts in terms of the evolution of the medium, describes the variations in form and content while providing examples, acknowledges its advantages and disadvantages and maps the current state of its popularity and general awareness. The last chapter aims to provide proof of the potential podcasts present as a supplementary teaching material and its value in use as input for language acquisition. Vem conquistando grande espaço na Web 2.0, especialmente com relação à produção de informação e às suas potencialidades comunicacionais e educativas. Além disso, também subverte a questão do receptor passivo ligado às mídias de massa tradicionais. A partir de uma origem fortemente tecnológica, o podcast teve um desenvolvimento voltado a facilitar sua produção e distribuição, permitindo que qualquer pessoa se torne potencialmente receptor e emissor, tornando a difusão de informações mais democrática. Os podcasts produzidos no Brasil possuem ainda características que os diferenciam das produções realizadas no exterior, aprofundando o caráter colaborativo existente na internet. The podcast is produced and hosted by me and my colleague Elina Korpela for Houston Inc., a software consultancy based out of Helsinki, Finland. In this Master’s thesis, I explore the role Nudging Pixels plays in helping Houston Inc. build its network and brand. The role of this podcast is examined through three lenses, as a tool for knowledge sharing, as con- tent marketing and for building familiarity within the design and technology community in Fin- land. The results presented in this thesis are based on the findings collected from informal inter- views with listeners and critical reflection. These findings are used to iterate every episode of Nudging Pixels continuously. Nudging Pixels is an ongoing podcast first published in January 2019. This thesis explores the pro- cess behind creating the podcast, and how it attempts to meet the goal of providing new and relat- able content to its listeners. As a final result, this thesis aims to provide information to practition- ers who may wish to embark upon the endeavour of creating a podcast to further their company’s

Bei StreamOnTheFly handelt es sich um ein webbasiertes Open Source Medienarchiv, welches speziell für die Bedürfnisse von freien Radios entworfen und entwickelt wurde und der Bereitstellung, der Archivierung sowie des Austausches von Sendungen dient. Es besteht aus mehreren Servern in Österreich und Ungarn, die Metadaten von vorhandenem Content unter Verwendung von XML-RPC austauschen. Bis vor kurzem unterstützte die Software – da ja vorwiegend von Radiostationen verwendet – ausschließlich Audiomaterial. Die Videoerweiterung wurde nun durchgeführt, um StreamOnTheFly ebenso mit Videodateien kompatibel zu machen. Dies beinhaltete neben einer Anpassung der Metadaten die Umsetzung einer flexiblen Transcoding- Lösung, um eine Vielzahl mobiler Videoplayer zu unterstützen.
