    UPPER PERKIOMEN SCHOOL DISTRICT 2229 East Buck Road Pennsburg PA 18073 April 8, 2021 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Upper Perkiomen School District was called to order by President Melanie Cunningham, at 7:00 p.m. as a virtual and in-person meeting at the Upper Perkiomen Education Center. The following Board members attended: Stephen Cunningham, Melanie Cunningham, Mike Elliott, Dana Hipszer, Raeann Hofkin, Judy Maginnis, Keith McCarrick, and Peg Pennepacker. Absent member was: Kerry Drake. Administration in attendance were: Allyn J. Roche, EdD., Andrea Farina, EdD., Sandra M. Kassel, Kimberly Bast and Georgiann Fisher. Others in attendance were: Kyle Somers, Doug Kenwood, Jim Roth, J.P. Prego, Jennifer Hartzell, Carmina Taylor, Judy Sledgen, Mary Cannon, Linda Davidheiser, and Gene Dolloff. BOARD PRESIDENT’S REPORT President Cunningham reported that she was very happy about school being back in session four days a week. Mrs. Cunningham had sent out an email to staff beforehand and said she received great feedback from many excited teachers and she hoped there were many excited students as well. Many comments that she received after school started were about how well everything was going. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT Dr. Roche gave an update on increased in-person instruction. He reported that there were smiles all around from students to teachers to parents to support staff. Dr. Roche said overall there was a smooth transition with a few bumps that will get better and shared pictures of the students back in the different schools. Dr. Roche reported that the high school graduation is being planned for an outdoor ceremony on Thursday June 10, 2021.

A fitting title for a group of 14 students graduating in 2014. At their Graduation, held on Friday, June 6, they were addressed by David Allain, President of the Board of Trustees. Here is a portion of his words to the class: Members of the Wyndcroft Class of 2014, let me first suggest that you are a filled candy. It’s not really important what filled candy comes to your mind, but you have been filled—or I could say it another way. You are blessed. First and most importantly you have had lots of loving, supporting family and friends, including all your teachers here at Wyndcroft. You have had amazing opportunities here to learn various academic subjects. More importantly, I hope and believe you have learned skills and attitudes: the idea of Non Sibi, working hard, managing your time, and work- ing and getting along with others. Although most of our expectations as an institution are similar to other schools, The Perkiomen School is unique. Understanding our culture and being well versed in the general expectations are essential. Please read these guidelines and take them to heart. As with all thriving independent schools, we work best when each of us understands the basic tenets of living and learning together. Structure, support, trust, dignity, respect, and honor go hand in hand to guide students, colleagues, and families toward success here, in college, and in life. The Handbook further outlines the various expectations by which we all live during the year, expectations that build a culture of trust, support, honesty, and integrity that foster a sense of dignity and respect for each other at all times. These are not just words on a page. In order to live and work in this community, we must embrace these behaviors. There are so many important parts to effectively educate children, but it begins with being a presence, physically and emotionally. That means everyone has to pay attention to the school calendar, so it is resoundingly clear that as you plan for your personal holidays you do so without conflicting with the school schedule. We are fortunate to have a wealth of time off as educators; use that time to take care of your other responsibilities in life. During school days your focus must be on Perk. That means you should be scheduling appointments, etc. on your own time unless an emergency arises.
