Human being considers himself synonymous with nature suddenly falls on his knees. Wherever you are, in any corner of the world, you are unarmed in front of the challenge of nature. This has been happening since millions of years. So far 60 thousand people have died due to Covid-19 in India. The death toll in the cities is more alarming than in the villages. Many cities of India have become a mound of death. I do not remember when was the last time such a large number of people died? Actually our generation did not expect such aggressions like Covid-19. We used to think that the attack would be from the water or from space . But for some other reason, someone else did the orgy of death. Millions of people in India are dying of starvation. For the last one decade, I was constantly thinking that this country was walking on the edge of the sword. We are giving children carelessly. We justify every crime in the name of religion, caste and community. Do you think that any government can meet the livelihood and health needs of 135 crore people of India. Is it possible in a semi-developed country in a country like India? We think in pieces. We only think about ourselves and sometimes even not about our family members. Corona crisis has brought to us this shameful and naked truth that we do not want to touch even our closest relative, if he is died because of Corona. During the riots, I have seen a wall of hatred and jealousy even among those look modest and cool, otherwise. We expect leaders to provide education, health and other humanitarian services . They cannot do this. You cannot blame them because you have elected them and sent them to Parliament and Assembly. I have always been looking for national leaders with a mature brain. But I found only clever, sly, illustrious, greedy and thugs. The political leadership in the country will succeed when it does a big job on economic issues. When governments are unable to find a solution to the problem of the public, then they start praising emotional slogans. This has been happening for the last thousand years. In the time of crisis can we help each other? This is not the time for community enmity and political deceit.     Statement by H. E. Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh 22 April 2021 Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim Honourable President Joe Biden, H.E. António Guterres, Excellencies. Assalamu Alaikum, and good morning. I thank President Biden for convening the Summit and inviting me to speak to this august gathering. Bangladesh deeply appreciates the United States’ return to the Paris Climate Agreement and is keen to engage with the international community. Excellencies, Despite being a climate vulnerable country with resource constraints, Bangladesh has emerged as a global leader on adaptation and mitigation. Every year we are spending about 5 billion dollars, about 2.5 percent of our GDP, on climate adaptation and resilience-building measures. The 1.1 million forcefully displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar whom we have sheltered worsened our vulnerability. Bangladesh is pursuing a low carbon development path. To raise our Nationally Determined Contribution-NDC and adaptation ambition, we have included new sectors in addition to the existing energy, industry and transport sectors in the mitigation process. We are planning to submit a quantified ambitious NDC by June 2021. Excellencies, Bangladesh is observing ‘Mujib Year’, marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We are planting 30 million saplings nationwide and adopted “Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan” to achieve low carbon economic growth. As the Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum-CVF and V20, Bangladesh’s key focus is to uphold the interests of the climate vulnerable countries. We are hosting the South Asian regional office of the Global Centre on Adaptation which is promoting locally-led adaptation solutions.

At the outset, on behalf of the Bangladesh delegation, let me offer you the greetings of “Mujib Year” as we have been celebrating the centennial birth anniversary of our “Father of the Nation”, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Concurrently, we are celebrating the Golden Jubilee of our independence. 2. Now, I would like to thank the UNESCAP for organizing the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development which is a unique opportunity to share experiences of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, best practices, and lessons learned as well. The experience of the APFSD helped us a lot in conducting the Voluntary National Reviews for High-Level Political Forum held in July last year. Respected Chair, 3. Last month in the second tri-annual reviews, the UN-CDP provided the final recommendation for Bangladesh to be graduated from LDC in 2026, which revealed the sustained and inclusive growth in social, economic, and environmental spheres in Bangladesh, particularly in the last decade under the dynamic and visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It will give us an impetus in fulfilling the commitment of SDGs by 2030, graduating to an upper-middle-income country by 2031, and realizing the dream of 168 million people to be a developed nation by 2041 as envisioned by the Government of Bangladesh. 4. Recently, the Government has approved its flagship strategic document viz. the 8th Five Year Plan (FY 2021-2025), which like the 7th Five Year Plan has incorporated the targets of SDGs in a befitting way, which depicts the strong political commitment for achieving the SDGs.

Briefing media in New Delhi today, Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said, employee of essential service can fill the form 12(D) and submit before 19th of this month to avail the postal ballot facility. He said, nodal officers have been deployed for this process for essential service employees. • Mr Singh said, under postal ballot facility, these absentee voters, including those who are unable to vote due to some immobility can vote. • He said, ramp, sign language, Braille and pick and drop facilities will be available for disabled persons at polling stations. • Mr Singh said, commission is trying, with its objective of inclusive and accessive election, to make each and everyone to participate in the election process.
