Form guide • Beaten 2-1 in Glasgow on matchday three, Astra have now lost their last four European games, with their 5-1 matchday one defeat at GNK Dinamo Zagreb their worst European result to date. • Celtic are without a European away win in three games (D2 L1) since beating KR Reykjavík 1-0 in their opening away trip of the season. They have not won in six UEFA group stage away fixtures (D1 L5) since a 3-2 UEFA Champions League success at FC Spartak Moskva in 2012. • Celtic fans with long memories will remember the Hoops' first meeting with Romanian opponents; Charlie Nicholas scored twice as they beat FC Timişoara 2-1 at home in the 1980/81 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, but a 1-0 loss in Romania – courtesy of a Dan Păltinişanu strike – spelled an away-goals defeat for Billy McNeill's side. Trivia and links • This is Celtic's 300th UEFA club competition game (the first 299 ended: W142 D51 L106). • No Scottish club has won a UEFA game on Romanian soil in ten meetings (D4 L6); in addition, Kilmarnock FC lost 2-0 at FCM Bacau in the 1970 edition of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup – the non-UEFA-affiliated precursor to the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League. The coaches • Astra coach Daniel Isăilă was dismissed during the October international break with his side having won just one of their previous seven games in all competitions. • Former Soviet Union forward Oleh Protasov is Astra's new coach, having returned to Romania nine years after a five-month spell as FC Steaua Bucureşti coach. The one-time FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, FC Dynamo Kyiv and Olympiacos FC player has coached in Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus as well as in his native Ukraine. • Celtic coach Ronny Deila took charge of the Hoops in June 2014 following a successful spell at Strømsgodset IF in his native Norway. The former Odd Grenland and Viking FK defender led the Drammen club to the 2010 Norwegian Cup title and, in 2013, their first league crown since 1970. 3 FC Astra Giurgiu - Celtic FC Thursday 6 November 2014 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Marin Anastasovici, Giurgiu Team facts FC Astra Giurgiu Formed: 1921 Nickname: Black Devils (Dracii Negri) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • none Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Romanian Cup: 1 (2014) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: play-offs 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 3-0: Astra v FC Slovan Liberec 31/07/14, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 1-3: FK AŠ Trenčín v Astra 01/08/13, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-2: Astra v FC Salzburg 02/10/14, UEFA Europa League group stage 0-1: Astra v Olympique Lyonnais 28/08/14, UEFA Europa League play-off second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: GNK Dinamo Zagreb v Astra 18/09/14, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 3-0: Astra v FC Slovan Liberec (see above) • Biggest away win 1-3: FK AŠ Trenčín v Astra (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 1-2: Astra v FC Salzburg (see above) 0-1: Astra v Olympique Lyonnais (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: GNK Dinamo Zagreb v Astra (see above) Celtic FC Formed: 1888 Nickname: The Hoops, The Bhoys UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup (1): 1967, (1970) • UEFA Cup: (2003) • European/South American Cup: (1967) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) 4 FC Astra Giurgiu - Celtic FC Thursday 6 November 2014 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Marin Anastasovici, Giurgiu League title: 45 (2014) Scottish Cup: 36 (2013) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: UEFA Champions League group stage 2012/13: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2011/12: group stage 2010/11: play-offs (having transferred from the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2009/10: group stage (having transferred from the UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2008/09: UEFA Champions League group stage 2007/08: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2006/07: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2005/06: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2004/05: UEFA Champions League group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 9-0: Celtic v KPV Kokkola 16/09/70, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-7: Waterford United FC v Celtic 21/10/70, European Champion Clubs' Cup second round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Celtic v AC Milan 26/11/13, UEFA Champions League group stage 0-3: Celtic v Juventus 12/02/13, UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg 0-3: Celtic v Paris Saint-Germain 02/11/95, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 6-1: FC Barcelona v Celtic 11/12/13, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Cup/Europa League • Biggest home win 8-1: Celtic v FK Sūduva 19/09/02, first round first leg 7-0: Celtic v AS Jeunesse Esch 24/08/00, qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 0-6: Cwmbran Town FC v Celtic 12/08/99, qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Celtic v Hamburger SV 10/09/96, first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: Neuchâtel Xamax FC v Celtic 22/10/91, second round first leg 4-0: FC Utrecht v Celtic 26/08/10, play-off second leg 5 FC Astra Giurgiu - Celtic FC Thursday 6 November 2014 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Marin Anastasovici, Giurgiu Squad list FC Astra Giurgiu Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE - 2014/15 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS Celtic Park - Glasgow Thursday 23 October 2014 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Celtic FC Group D - Matchday 3 FC Astra Giurgiu Last updated 03/06/2015 03:13CET Match background 2 Legend 3 1 Celtic FC - FC Astra Giurgiu Thursday 23 October 2014 - 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Match press kit Celtic Park, Glasgow Match background Celtic FC rode their luck to beat GNK Dinamo Zagreb in their last UEFA Europa League Group D game and will hope to have an easier ride against winless FC Astra Giurgiu. Form guide • Celtic fans with long memories will remember the Hoops' only previous European meeting with Romanian opponents; Charlie Nicholas scored twice as they beat FC Timişoara 2-1 at home in the 1980/81 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, but a 1-0 loss in Romania – courtesy of a Dan Păltinişanu strike – spelled an away-goals defeat for Billy McNeill's side. • Astra have lost their last three European games but have a decent record in their seven continental away fixtures (W5 D0 L2).
