5 Viewpoint C MuM Becky Bond gets ini na s ptin hoveer Middle the latest craze... My mum has mild dementia, but sometimes she’s right on the button with a comment. This time, it was when my daughters were showing her how to use a fidget spinner. In the unlikely event that you don’t know what a fidget spinner is, it’s a thing you hold between your thumb and forefinger and spin. Yep, that’s it. It just spins. But it’s the latest craze for three to 13 year-olds and if you don’t own one its social suicide. Featherbank, The problem is, I’ve got a bit of a thing about background noise. I think it’s because I work in radio, where all day I hear people talking, emoting or playing Phil Collins. So when I come home, I just like a bit of non-sound. There’s a whole host of noises which have the potential to irritate if I’m that way out: slamming doors, piano scales, the dsh... dsh... dsh escaping from headphones. But I’ve recently discovered that the intermittent hissing of a fidget spinner is in a vexation league all of its own.
