Application Part III (Letters of Endorsement) Sample Letter of Endorsement Langone MEDICAL CENTER Application Part III (Letters of Endorsement) Sample Letter of Endorsement Langone MEDICAL CENTER CERTIFIED MAIL February 12, 2016 Dear Chief Executive Officer: Since 1972, the Emergency Medical Services Department of the NYU Lutheran Medical Center campus at 150 55th Street, Brooklyn has provided emergency medical service at the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support levels in southwest Brooklyn. The significant increase of 911 emergency calls has put a heavy burden on the New York City Fire Department's ability to allocate Emergency Medical Services resources throughout the City. With the recent merger of NYU Lutheran into NYU Hospitals Center ("NYUHC") and the concurrent availability of three Emergency Department facilities in Brooklyn and Manhattan (the free-standing ED at NYU Langone Cobble Hill, the Lutheran campus ED at and the ED at the main campus on First Avenue in Manhattan), we believe an expansion ofNYUHC's service area to cover all of Brooklyn and Manhattan will greatly benefit public need by reducing response times and facilitating access to medical care. Accordingly, NYUHC seeks your support in favor of its application to the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City, Inc. for an expansion of its service area. Recognizing that the health needs of patients coming through our hospital doors may not represent the wider health needs of the community, we embarked on an extensive stakeholder engagement process led by OneCity Health, who built new relationships with community stakeholders through the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program. For the first time, we conducted a system-wide assessment to identify priorities that need to be addressed city-wide and will allow us to maximize our resources in response. We believe that we should reliably deliver high-quality services and that patients should have a consistent experience at our facilities. Montgomery finds fault with the current judicial selection process, but is wary of a merit-based appoint- ment system because it could possibly lead to a lack of diversity on the bench. She supports the creation of an independent redistricting commission to draw state legislative district lines, and argues that downstate districts are under represented, largely due to the counting of prisoners at their prison location for determination of district size. Montgomery recently drafted a bill that has been passed by both houses of the Legislature, and awaits approval by the Governor, which would help formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into the job market and reduce recidi- vism by amending the general business law to prevent licensing agencies from dis- qualifying someone from receiving a license to become a barber or cosmetologist solely on the basis of a criminal conviction. She also sponsored a bill that would grant $1 million to the Department of Education to establish extracurricular activ- ities in the state’s largest school districts, which she believes, will help reduce dropout rates and crime. Montgomery has voiced concern over several elements of the plan to develop the Atlantic Rail Yards, specifically the possibility that the massive development project would price long term residents and business owners out of their communities.

No, not the Republicans, who currently lead the Senate, or even the Democrats. The only seemingly sure thing? Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, leader of the Independent Democratic Conference, a band of renegade Democrats who have worked hand in hand with the Republican majority for the last four years. Mr. Klein has seen his breakaway coalition morph from an annoyance and a curiosity into a legitimate island of power; this year, his group added Marisol Alcantara, the Democratic nominee for the Senate district covering neighborhoods in northern and western Manhattan. On Monday, the conference added its seventh member: Senator Jesse Hamilton, a Brooklyn Democrat, who said in a statement that he joined the coalition because “they get results.” The biggest question in Albany is whom will Mr. Klein, who represents parts of the Bronx and Westchester County, align with if there is a new Democratic majority.
