The Generations+/Northern Manhattan Health Network remains fiscally strong with a net surplus of $7.337 million as of June 30, 2008. This was the best financial performance of all HHC Networks. Harlem had a surplus of $ 4.782 million. Lincoln continued to have the highest surplus in HHC of $ 20.337 million. Metropolitan’s deficit was $ 21.439 million. Our Neighborhood Family Health Centers performed strongly as well. Segundo Ruiz Belvis’ surplus was $3.269 million. Morrisania had a surplus of $1.509 million and Renaissance had a deficit of $1.121 million.

Dr. Frieden has served as Commissioner of DOHMH since January 2002. In 2002, Dr. Frieden launched a comprehensive tobacco control program that has resulted in 240,000 fewer smokers and will prevent approximately 80,000 premature deaths. During this time, smoking declined twenty percent among adults and fifty percent among children.
