Crestview Local School District

October 2017

Message from the Superintendent

Dear Rebel Community:

We would like to introduce our new certified and central office staff for the 2017 - 2018 school year. I am pleased to introduce these talented people to the Rebel Family!

Leslie Biastro - Psychologist - Miss Biastro grew up in North Lima, graduating from South Range High School in 2001. She attended college in Washington, Pennsylvania where she acquired her teaching degree. She taught first, third and fourth grades during her eight years in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Her teaching experience gives her a unique perspective as she starts her journey as a psychologist. She is glad to return to the area and be with family and her two cats!

Andrew Crawford - High School Intervention Specialist - Mr. Crawford is originally from Niles, Ohio and is very excited to be a Rebel! His wife, Denise, is a 4th grade teacher at Crestview Elementary School; they have two children, Layla (10 years old) and Cameron (6 years old). He’s a die-hard fan of the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. His other hobbies include reading, singing, lifting weights, eating mass quantities of good food, watching (mainly) classic films (Hitchcock is his favorite--He’s in the midst of collecting all of his films on blu-ray). He also loves Slush Puppies and is overjoyed that he can buy them at Crestview football games!

Emma Nappi - Assistant Treasurer - Miss Nappi graduated from Ohio University with a degree in business. She is an avid personal trainer in her free time and she enjoys music and her cats. She is engaged to be married next year. Miss Nappi has a wonderful sense of humor and jokes that she loves snacks; therefore, friends may drop off snacks anytime in her office.

Tiffany Noling - Title 1 Reading - Mrs. Noling is a graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her son, Jake is a 4th grader this year at the elementary and he fills his time with his passion of sports by playing flag football, , and . Her daughter, Sophia is also a Crestview Rebel student in 2nd grade and she enjoys tumbling on the mats at gymnastics and also playing basketball and . The Noling family returned to Crestview in 2013 and loves being part of the Rebel Nation!

We want you to note that parent teacher conferences have been moved from November to October 12, 2017. The goal is to establish positive communication earlier for families to work together to build and foster student success. On October 13, 2017 our students will be off and our teachers will be having class. The state has trainings that need accomplished, so all teachers and administrators will return to being students. I believe it is important that our students know that learning never stops. Our teachers spend endless hours researching and attending workshops to continue to enhance their craft and vocation.

Over the last few months, we have been working with the state and an architect on our facilities. We know that the state will provide significant dollars to update our facilities. Our state dollars will be available in 2019; however, we did an emergency funding proposal with them that was due on September 15, 2017. If approved, the dollars will be available in 2018. There were some significant issues from roofing to heating. For example, the high school heating system cannot be repaired. There are no parts for the system, and we need several million dollars for replacement. Last year, we had to move Mrs. Montgomery out of her Science Lab for a few days. From here on out, if a coil goes out in a room, we have to put an independent unit in that classroom. That repair was accomplished with local dollars. When we get state money, the majority of that repair would be accomplished through state dollars; thus preserving your local funding. The state and architect are formulating long term options. We hope by the first of the year to be able to start to look as these with the community.

We hope that you have a beautiful fall and we encourage you to attend events and watch our kids excel. There are so many options from the arts to athletics. Have a healthy fall and enjoy the harvest. Sincerely yours, Matthew T. Manley, Superintendent CRESTVIEW EVENTS
