Ohio Baseball Coaches Association OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION Dear OHSBCA Members, Welcome to the 68th annual OHSBCA State Clinic, January 17th, 18th and 19th of 2019. You are a member of the 2nd largest coaches associations in the United States. Many high school coaches and college speakers have said that this is one of the best clinics in the nation. I am hoping that you are able to take something from this year’s clinic and go back to your school to make the young men in your program better this coming year and for future players as well. With my involvement on this board for the past 5 years, I have seen the giant steps forward the association has made. It is my honor to give back as Director of the 2019 State Clinic. This venue at the Hyatt Regency and Columbus Convention Center is just one example of what a first class operation we all are here to witness. If there is anything that any of our 24 board members or the Hyatt personnel can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know. Your board is committed to making this a most enjoyable and rewarding experience, and represents you throughout the entire year. We have the opportunity to recognize and honor four (4) of our own with their induction into our OHSBCA Hall of Fame this weekend. I truly hope that you take the opportunity to attend our banquet on Friday at noon in the Regency Ballroom to honor these four great men who have given so much to their schools, community and our association. The banquet also includes many other awards being given to your peers and scholarships to the children of our members. I have taken great pride in putting together a great lineup of clinic speakers who have a variety of messages that will help you to get back into “baseball mode” as we get closer to our seasons approaching. We continue to learn and seek out information and I feel that this year’s speakers will truly help all of us grow our players and build a stronger program. Boys Division I: Glenville won its second straig ht title and 12th overall when its 80 points set a boys record for all divisions. Reynoldsburg was a distant second with 30. The Tarblooders were led by senior Ted Ginn Jr., who defended his title in the 110 hurdles in a tournament record time of 13.40; won the 200; was on the winning 4x400 relay, and placed second in the 400. Ginn’s time of 13.26 in the 110 hurdles semifinals would have set a state mark but did not qualify for a record since the time was wind-aided. Also winning a championship for Glenville was the 4x100 relay. The Tarblooders’ 12th championship trails boys’ all-time leader Cleveland East Tech by one. Also in the division, Trotwood-Madison senior Zach Logan won his second 400 title in three years w hen he edged Ginn, and Middletown junior Jeff See defended his title in the 1,600. The initial complaint (#15-11-1080) was filed against the Wooster City School District (District) on January 24, 2011. The complainant alleged that the District denied a student with a disability (the Student), who uses a wheelchair, an equal opportunity to participate on the District’s middle school track team during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years. On December 30, 2011, OCR opened a related complaint (#15-12-4010) against the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), as OCR determined that OHSAA, as the organization responsible for setting athletic participation rules for the District and an entity involved in the District’s alleged denial of equal opportunity to the Student, was a necessary party to the resolution of the complaint against the District.

  • Special Base Running Situations
Special Base Running Situations 1. Situation: The base runners responsibility on the hit and run Some coaches want the runner to shorten his lead and not worry about a great jump. They feel it is the batters job to make contact. Their reasoning is if the batter doesn’t put the bat on the ball the base runner is “hung out to dry”. The base runner should be conditioned that when the hit and run us on he is trying to steal the base. The only difference is after his third step he needs to take a good look at the batter to pick up the flight on the ball and make the necessary reaction. The only true exception to this is for the pitcher that has a great move to 1st base and it is difficult to steal 2nd base. In this situation the base runner breaks to 2nd only when he knows the pitcher is delivering the ball to home plate. If the base runner can’t pick up where the baseball was hit he should look directly at the 3rd base coach. The coach shouldn’t YELL at the base runner, but arm signal him what he wants him to do. For some reason many players loose there sense of hearing when they are running full speed. The coach should point back to 1st base if the ball was hit in the air and he wants him to return, arm circle signal if he wants the base runner to advance to 3rd base, or point to 2nd base if he wants the base runner to stay there.
