May 11, 2015 Minutes **************************************************************** SOUTH RANGE LOCAL BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES REGULAR MEETING – MONDAY, MAY 11, 2015 **************************************************************** The regular meeting of the South Range Local Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Ralph Wince. The following members were present: Jeff Good, Dale Murray, Ed Pierson and Amy White. 65-15 APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Good moved that the minutes of the regular meeting held on April 20, 2015 and the special meeting on April 24, 2015 be approved. Mrs. White seconded the motion. All votes were yes REPORTS The Treasurer/CFO presented the financial reports. 66-15 FINANCIAL REPORT & CLAIMS AND INTERIM PURCHASES Mr. Pierson moved that the financial report and claims and interim purchases report presented by the Treasurer/CFO be approved. Mr. Murray seconded the motion. All votes were yes. New Business Good News The building principals reported the good news from their respective buildings. Legislative Liaison Report Mr. Good presented the legislative report for the month of May. Food Service Report The food service manager presented the monthly report to the board. 67-15 APPROVAL OF PAYMENT IN LIEU OF TRANSPORTATION Mr. Good moved that the South Range Local Board of Education approve for the 2014/2015 school year the payment of $440.00 per child transported to chartered private schools to which it is impractical for the board to transport resident children on the condition that the board has on file an agreement, a request for payment and verification of attendance. Mr. Pierson seconded the motion. All votes were yes. 68-15 BUS PURCHASE Mrs. White moved that the South Range Local Board of Education purchase a new 71 passenger conventional school bus from the low bidder, Myers Equipment Co. for $80,911.00 (includes trade of 1995 Ford/Carpenter Bus). Other bus bids received are as follows: Cardinal Bus Sales- $82,500.00 and Rush Bus Center -$86,338.00. Mr. Murray seconded the motion. All votes were yes. 1128 69-15 CONTINUATION OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE OHIO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Mr. Murray moved that the South Range Local Board of Education re-new its membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for inter-scholastic sports at South Range Middle School and South Range High School for the 2015/2016 school year. Mr. Pierson seconded the motion. All votes were yes. April/May District Update The superintendent updated the board and audience of events and activities within the district over the past three weeks. Special Board Meeting Date There will be a special board meeting on May 21, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. at the board of education office. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the approval of resolutions regarding the five year forecast and handbooks. 71-15 EXECUTIVE SESSION Mr. Good moved that the South Range Local Board of Education go into executive session (as per ORC 121.22) to consider the employment of a public employee or official. Mr. Pierson seconded the motion. Roll Call Jeff Good Yes Dale Murray Yes Ed Pierson Yes Amy White Yes Ralph Wince Yes The Board entered executive session at 8:04 p.m. and returned to open session at 9:44 p.m. 72-15 PERSONNEL Mr. Good moved that the South Range Local Board of Education approve the following: Approve for the 2014/2015 school year, the following people as substitute teachers, on an as needed basis, as long as all criteria is met (current certificate/license; T.B. test result; resume; and BCI&I report: Courtney Grantz Carolyn Nezbeth Jeff Pilcher 1130 Approve, as substitute bus drivers, substitute cafeteria aides, substitute custodial aides, substitute teacher aides, substitute nurse, substitute office aides, substitute playground aides, substitute bus and/or van driver aides, etc., for the 2014/2015 school year the following people: (after BCI/FBI reports are on file): Marcella Zinz Mary Henry Shari Gonatas Approve Lisa Gorby as a Saturday Detention Monitor for the 2014/2015 school year. Approve Mr. James Ridge as a Senior Class Trip Chaperone for the 2015 trip to Cedar Point. Approve Joe Brooks as the boys basketball scorebook statistician at $30.00 event for the 2014/2015 school year. Approve Eric Bodine to perform bus body repairs at a rate of $25.00 per hour as approved by the director of transportation for the summer of 2015. Mr. Bodine will be reimbursed for supplies (pre-approved) used as per documentation received, reviewed and approved by the director of transportation. Resolved, that in accordance with Article VI of the collective bargaining agreement with the South Range Education Association that the Board has recalled Mark Giesy to a teaching position effective with the beginning of the 2015/2016 school year. Approve the following supplemental contracts for the 2014/2015 school year: James Hanek Head Baseball Coach Ericka Burkey Middle School Girls Track Coach Memorandum of Understanding Between South Range Classified Employees Association And The South Range Local Board of Education Agreed upon for the 2015/2016 school year a classified supplemental contract for the position referred to as “Central Call Off/Bus Dispatcher”. The classified supplemental position applicant must have experience in the use of technology and have flexible hours to accommodate employee call offs and communication skills necessary to coordinate bus dispatching duties before and after school hours. The supplemental contract stipend will be $4,000 for the 2015/2016 school year. Approve Connie Stewart as the “Central Call Off/Bus Dispatcher” (as per SRCEA/SRBOE MOU) for the 2015/2016 school year. Grant a continuing full time classified custodian contract to Thomas Foster 1131 Memorandum of Understanding Between the South Range Board of Education and the South Range Education Association For the 2015/2016 school year only, the parties agree to modify the supplemental positions of Middle School Athletic Director, High School Athletic Director, Middle School Ticket Manager and High School Ticket Manager supplemental positions contained in the SREA and SRLSD negotiated agreement. The positions will be consolidated from four (4) to three (3) as follows: Athletic Director - Grades 7-12 - 22% Assistant Athletic Director - Grades 7-12 - 13% Ticket Manager - Grades 7-12 - 10% The Athletic Director will be responsible for directing and coordinating all athletic events associated with the OHSAA interscholastic competition in grades 7-12. Due to the nature of this position, the Athletic Director will be limited to obtaining one (1) supplemental contract for the 2015/2016 school year. The Assistant Athletic Director will also be limited to obtaining (1) supplemental contract for the 2015/2016 school year. The Assistant Athletic Director will work closely with the Athletic Director and will perform the necessary duties as agreed upon by the Athletic Director and building level Administrator(s) for grades 7-12. The Ticket Manager supplemental position will be for grades 7-12. The Ticket Manager supervises ticket operations of all athletic events. The ticket manager position coordinates and oversees the mailing, distributing and publicizing of ticket information for each athletic season. The guidelines and course offerings have been specifically created to satisfy the needs of our South Range High School stu- dents and community. I am pleased to introduce these talented people to the Rebel Family! Leslie Biastro - Psychologist - Miss Biastro grew up in North Lima, graduating from South Range High School in 2001. She attended college in Washington, Pennsylvania where she acquired her teaching degree. She taught first, third and fourth grades during her eight years in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Her teaching experience gives her a unique perspective as she starts her journey as a psychologist. She is glad to return to the area and be with family and her two cats! Andrew Crawford - High School Intervention Specialist - Mr. Crawford is originally from Niles, Ohio and is very excited to be a Rebel! His wife, Denise, is a 4th grade teacher at Crestview Elementary School; they have two children, Layla (10 years old) and Cameron (6 years old). He’s a die-hard fan of the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. His other hobbies include reading, singing, lifting weights, eating mass quantities of good food, watching (mainly) classic films (Hitchcock is his favorite--He’s in the midst of collecting all of his films on blu-ray). He also loves Slush Puppies and is overjoyed that he can buy them at Crestview football games! Emma Nappi - Assistant Treasurer - Miss Nappi graduated from Ohio University with a degree in business. She is an avid personal trainer in her free time and she enjoys music and her cats.

    OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION Dear OHSBCA Members, Welcome to the 68th annual OHSBCA State Clinic, January 17th, 18th and 19th of 2019. You are a member of the 2nd largest coaches associations in the United States. Many high school coaches and college speakers have said that this is one of the best clinics in the nation. I am hoping that you are able to take something from this year’s clinic and go back to your school to make the young men in your program better this coming year and for future players as well. With my involvement on this board for the past 5 years, I have seen the giant steps forward the association has made. It is my honor to give back as Director of the 2019 State Clinic. This venue at the Hyatt Regency and Columbus Convention Center is just one example of what a first class operation we all are here to witness. If there is anything that any of our 24 board members or the Hyatt personnel can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know. Your board is committed to making this a most enjoyable and rewarding experience, and represents you throughout the entire year. We have the opportunity to recognize and honor four (4) of our own with their induction into our OHSBCA Hall of Fame this weekend. I truly hope that you take the opportunity to attend our banquet on Friday at noon in the Regency Ballroom to honor these four great men who have given so much to their schools, community and our association.
