Det vore ingen överdrift att sammanfatta det postrevolutionära Iran som en tid präglad av kaos, kris, trauma och djupa själsliga sår. Aldrig någonsin i Irans moderna historia har behovet av att berätta och återberätta varit så stort. Det kanske mest utmärkande för den ­persiska­litteraturen­efter­revolutionen­är­dess­gränsöverskridande­karaktär,­både­geografiskt­ och innehållsmässigt. Den skrivs och publiceras parallellt både i och utanför Iran, och un- der helt olika sociala och politiska omständigheter. Antologin Tavlan är ett försök att fånga en skönlitterär bild av Iran efter revolutionen och samtidigt presentera några av de litterära strömningarna inom samtida persisk litteratur. Den innehåller tretton noggrant utvalda no- veller skrivna efter revolutionen i Iran 1979. Av dessa noveller är nio skrivna och publicerade i Iran av iranska författare, en är skriven och publicerad i Iran av en afghansk exilförfattare, tre är skrivna och publicerade utanför Iran. Ambitionen har varit att inkludera ett så brett och så representativt spektrum av berättarstilar, motiv och teman som möjligt. Ett stort tack ska också gå till Bo Bergstrand, Maria Bergstrand och Atti Brinkmann som korrekturläst en tidigare version av manuset. 7 Introduktion Revolutionen i Iran år 1979 har utan tvekan varit den mest om- välvande händelsen i Irans moderna historia. Islamiseringen och införandet av sharialagar, det åttaåriga Iran–Irak-kriget, förföljelsen och elimineringen av oliktänkande iranier både i Iran och utomlands, kvinnoförtrycket, och en omfattande emigration utan like i Irans historia är bara ett fåtal exempel på det som har präglat det iranska samhället efter revolutionen. Det vore ingen överdrift att sammanfatta det postrevolutionära Iran som en tid präglad av kaos, kris, trauma och djupa själsliga sår. Aldrig någonsin i Irans moderna historia har behovet av att berätta och återberätta varit så stort. Den post- revolutionära persiska litteraturen, speciellt persiska noveller och romaner, bör därför ses som det postrevolutionära Irans försök att bearbeta de djupa sår som åsamkats nationen. Det kanske mest utmärkande för denna litteratur är dess gränsöverskridande karaktär, både geografiskt och innehålls- mässigt. Den skrivs och publiceras parallellt både i och utanför Iran, under helt olika sociala och politiska omständigheter. Medan litteraturen i Iran endast kan röra sig inom ramen för censurens tillåtna gränser har persisk litteratur utanför Iran för- fattats utan begränsningar. Idag kan man inte längre tala om samtida persisk litteratur utan att beakta denna exillitteratur, inte bara på grund av dess omfång utan också på grund av de förbjudna och tabubelagda motiv och teman den berör. Ett annat utmärkande kapitel i persisk litteratur efter revolutionen är exillitteraturen av afghaner och om afghaner i Iran. Samti- digt som iranierna själva tvingades fly för att komma undan krig och förföljelser i Iran, tvingades miljontals afghaner av 9 samma anledningar att ta sig till Iran och där lägga grunden för afghansk exillitteratur i Iran. Ändå har modern persisk litteratur i västerländska akade- miska och litterära kretsar fortsatt att överskuggas av den klassiska persiska litteraturen – i synnerhet den klassiska poesin. De enstaka antologier på andra språk som fokuserat på modern persisk litteratur har i regel varit tillägnade persisk poesi eller en viss prosaförfattares verk från tiden före revolutionen. Det finns ett fåtal antologier som berör persisk skönlitterär prosa efter revolutionen, bland annat Strange Times My Dear: The Pen Anthology (2005) och Stories from Iran: A Chicago Anthology (1991). Strange Times My Dear: The Pen Anthology of Contemporary Iranian Literature består av två delar, där del I är tillägnad prosa, noveller och utdrag ur romaner, och del II poesi. Stories from Iran: A Chicago Anthology fokuserar däremot bara noveller men den täcker tiden både före och efter revolutionen under perioden 1921– 1991. Det har också kommit ut ett antal antologier med persiska noveller efter revolutionen men skrivna enbart av kvinnliga författare, t.ex. The Shipwrecked: Contemporary Stories by Women from Iran (2014) och In a Voice of Their Own: A Collection of Stories Written by Iranian Women since the Revolution in 1979 (1996). På svenska finns det endast tre hela samlingsverk med modern persisk skönlitterär prosa: Getingboet och nitton andra noveller från Iran (1983) och Suleimans flykt och andra noveller från Iran (1988) som båda innehåller noveller skrivna före revolutionen samt Iran berättar: Dans på slak lina (2004) som innehåller elva noveller och utdrag ur romaner som till största delen är skrivna efter revolutionen.1 Antologin Tavlan är ett försök att fånga en skönlitterär bild av Iran efter revolutionen och samtidigt presentera några av de litterära strömningarna inom samtida persisk litteratur. Hålan av Qazi Rabihavi utspelar sig under Iran–Irak-kriget och handlar om en ung mans strävan att bli sedd, men med livet som insats. Novellen publicerades första gången i novell- samlingen Hasht dāstān (Åtta noveller, 1984) skrivna av åtta unga lovande författare på initiativ av Houshang Golshiri.2 Jag är er sons mördare av Ahmad Dehqan är en annan novell i denna antologi som berör Iran–Irak-kriget. Although mobility in its various forms is part of the Afghan social and cultural landscape, past and present, Abdullah metaphorically expresses the idea that he would not have left his country of origin unless forced by some compelling reasons. Abdullah’s brief statement weaves together themes explored in this paper. It expresses the feeling that there is no future in the homeland, how dear it might be.

    The position of politics in the metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature is the main subject of this research. In this study, politics is considered as a general term. Biographies and the history of literature each from their own view express the reasons for the growth and decline of Persian language and literature. This study aims to prove what is said so far about the causes of change and metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature is a mere cause but can be considered as one of the reasons for the metamorphosis of poetry style. The authors of this article believe that the political, social, religious, cultural, economic, historical, regional and environmental factors and other reasons have affected the metamorphosis of Persian poetry and literature. The authors consider the results of the past review of Persian literature as a necessity to draw a future map and to encourage the scholars and thinkers for innovative, attractive, creative and compatible planning with the new conditions of the today world. Considering the cyberspace and social networks is another point in this study which emphasized the importance of applying these kinds of inclusive technologies in Persian language and literature promotion. ISBN 978-91-554-9577-0 The present study explores the image of the Islamic Revolution, the concept of the hero, and the concept of martyrdom as depicted in ten post-Revolutionary Persian novels written and published in Iran compared with ten post-Revolutionary Persian novels written and published in exile. The method is based on a comparative analysis of these two categories of novels. Roland Barthes’s structuralism will be used as the theoretical tool for the analysis of the novels. The comparative analysis of the two groups of novels will be carried out within the framework of Foucault’s theory of discourse. Since its emergence, the Persian novel has been a scene for the dialogue between the five main discourses in the history of Iran since the Constitutional Revolution; this dialogue, in turn, has taken place within the larger framework of the dialogue between modernity and traditionalism. The main conclusion to be drawn from the present study is that the establishment of the Islamic Republic has merely altered the makeup of the scene, while the primary dialogue between modernity and traditionalism continues unabated. This dialogue can be heard in the way the Islamic Republic, the hero, and martyrdom are portrayed in the twenty post-Revolutionary novels in this study.

Dissertation Advisor: Françoise Massardier-Kenney This dissertation addresses the need to expand translation scholarship through the inclusion of research into different translation traditions and histories (D’hulst 2001: 5; Bandia 2006; Tymoczko 2006: 15; Baker 2009: 1); the importance of compiling bibliographies of translations in a variety of translation traditions (Pym 1998: 42; D’hulst 2010: 400); and the need for empirical studies on the functional aspects of (translation) paratexts (Genette 1997: 12–15). It provides a digital bibliography that documents what works of Persian literature were translated into English, by whom, where, and when, and explores how these translations were presented to Anglophone readers across three historical periods—1925–1941, 1942–1979, and 1980–2015— marked by important socio-political events in the contemporary history of Iran and the country’s shifting relations with the Anglophone West. Through a methodical search in the library of congress catalogued in OCLC WorldCat, a bibliographical database including 863 editions of Persian-English literary translations along with their relevant metadata—titles in Persian, authors, translators, publishers, and dates and places of publication—was compiled and, through a quantitative analysis of this bibliographical data over time, patterns of translation publication across the given periods

The influx of foreigners into Iran and Iranians into West caused a new sort of trend in European literatures and Persian literature. Travelers played a leading role in bringing them closer academically and culturally. Iran’s interaction with the West in general and with the France in particular resulted in the form of a revolution on political, social and literary levels. The establishment of Dar-ul-Funun necessitated the translations of books from the western world. Persian literature, which had deteriorated since Mongol times in Iran, had started its revival in the early nineteenth century. The primary reform in prose literature took place ‘in the official correspondence, led by two of the greatest prime ministers Persian has ever produced: the Qa’im Maqam Farahani and the Amir Kabir. Later innovations came from two political and literary figures: Mirza Malkom Khan and Abdul Rahim Talibuff’. After that Jamalzade, Hedayat and many more writers who visited France or any other western country and became familiar with their literatures wrote some remarkable and path-breaking books that also revolutionized the whole corpus of Persian prose literature.
