Hudon Department of History, Bloomsburg University, 400 East Second Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815, USA; [email protected] Received: 31 October 2017; Accepted: 14 February 2018; Published: 25 February 2018 Abstract: Camilla Battista da Varano (1458–1524), a mystic and Franciscan nun, spent most of her life in Camerino in east-central Italy. Now a saint—since 17 October 2010—she composed two autobiographical treatises across a ten-year period mid-way through a literary career that spanned the end of the fifteenth and the early part of the sixteenth centuries. In one, La vita spirituale (My spiritual life, 1491), she delivered a complete spiritual life story, tracing her religious devotion from the ages of eight to thirty-three. She described her relationship with a number of men, including her father and several clerics who—to one degree or another—inspired and guided her devotional life. By the time she wrote, she had been a professed Franciscan nun for seven years. She presented herself at that point as one who had undergone visionary, mystical experiences and as a woman who had both benefitted and suffered under the control of men like her father and her spiritual directors.     IL PALAZZO DA VARANO E I PRIMITIVI INSEDIAMENTI DELL’ORDINE DEI CAPPUCCINI NELLA MARCA DI CAMERINO Ileana Tozzi ella ricorrenza del quinto centenario della riconquista della signoria da parte di Giovanni Maria da Varano, unico superstite insieme con la sorellastra N suor Camilla Battista all’eccidio ordinato da Cesare Borgia, la città di Camerino ha promosso una serie di manifestazioni culturali di notevole rilievo, fra cui si segnala il convegno internazionale I da Varano e le arti, svolto con apprezzabili risultati scientifici nell’ottobre 2001. A margine del convegno, merita di essere meglio indagata la singolare dedizione con la quale il casato camerte ha sostenuto e promosso l’attività delle congregazioni religiose attraverso la cospicua dotazione di monasteri e conventi: eppure la dinastia da Varano, che governò la Marca di Camerino per oltre tre secoli, meritò di essere inclusa fra le tirannidi minori più sanguinarie nella rassegna fatta da Jacob Burckhard nel suo saggio fondamentale La civiltà del Rinascimento in Italia, e neppure gli storici di parte, come è certo il camerinese Camillo Lilii, si astengono dal rimarcare la violenta sequenza di aggressioni e faide familiari che segnò il XV secolo. Sta di fatto che, se pure nella lotta cruenta per il potere i signori di Camerino non si sottrassero alle norme spietate della politica che caratterizzano l’Italia rinascimentale, seppero del pari dimostrare sincera fede e costante riguardo nei confronti della Chiesa, a cui dettero peraltro alcuni illustri membri nelle persone dell’ abate di Fiastra Antonio (+ 1456), e dei vescovi Bernardo (circa 1290) e Fabrizio (+ 1508), accordando particolare protezione alle famiglie religiose fiorite dall’Ordine francescano1.

    In ricordo STAGIONE di Pier Alberto Conti LIRICA nel 50° dalla scomparsa Civitanova Marche è lieta di ospitare la bellissima stagione che il Maestro Sorichetti metterà in scena nella nostra città, allietando un pubblico eterogeno ma desideroso di cultura. Civitanova all’Opera rappresenta un momento di caratura molto elevata e rende merito e lustro a questa città che da tanti anni è priva di una rassegna tanto importante ma che ha una grande tradizione lirica, per la quale mi preme ricordare Pier Alberto Conti. Che si alzi il sipario, dunque, e che questa bellissima stagione lirica abbia inizio! Il Sindaco di Civitanova Marche Fabrizio Ciarapica Alfredo Sorichetti proietta Civitanova Marche in un’atmosfera unica con la sua emozionante Stagione Lirica. Il Maestro non solo ha riportato la lirica a Civitanova, grande assente in tutti questi anni, ma è riuscito a coinvolgere i gio- vani e questa è un’importante rivoluzione culturale. Civitanova Marche è la scenografia perfetta per il lavoro re- alizzato dal Maestro Sorichetti che non poteva non iniziare con due Opere che si ispirano a due donne coraggiose: Tosca e Violetta (La Traviata). La sensibilità del pubblico saprà cogliere l’essenza di tutto questo lavoro. He wrote 39 operas, including the famous Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), La Cenerentola (Cinderella), and Guillaume Tell (William Tell). His musical style is characterized by distinctive, song-like melodies that, combined with his operasʼ lighthearted stories, have captivated audiences to the present day. Rossini was born in Pesaro, Italy on February 29, 1792 to musical parents. As a boy he learned to sing and play the horn, and sang in at least one opera in Bologna. Though he wrote an opera that went unperformed for several years at the age of 13 or 14, the official beginning of his operatic career occurred at the age of 18, with a one-act comedy for the opera in Venice, and furthercommissions followed from Bologna, Ferrara, Venice, and Milan, where La Pietra del Paragone was a success at La Scala in 1812.
