Godowsky’s musical language, as revealed in this Sonata in E minor, places him in the post-Roman- tic era, retaining an attachment to a tonality that is abundantly chromaticised within its limits, quite comparable to the Scriabin of the intermediate period. A true monument of the piano repertoire, the Sonata lasts 50 minutes and is structured in five movements. Karol Szymanowsky occupies a prominent place in his generation of Polish composers. Of his early compositions, written at the dawn of the 20th century, most of which he destroyed, these 9 Preludes opus 1, dating from 1899-1900 and published in 1906, remain. The legacy of Chopin Label Ligia / Distribution Socadisc can be seen here, combined with the harmonic metamorphoses of Tristan and the contemporary influence of Scriabin through the superimposition of binary and ternary rhythms. « De la valse à l’abîme » (“From waltz to abyss”)

The album was awarded the 41st Grand Prix du Disque in Budapest in October 2020. This award allowed Mūza Rubackytė to join the pres- tigious list of laureates such as , György Cziffra, Alfred Brendel, , Zoltán Kocsis or Maurizio Pollini. This beautifully constructed disc brings together Schubert’s Lieder transcribed for solo piano by Liszt and pieces by the two great Franz, including Schubert’s famous Sonata in A minor.
