ACTA MATERIALIA AUTHOR INFORMATION PACK TABLE OF CONTENTS XXX . • Description p.1 • Audience p.1 • Impact Factor p.1 • Abstracting and Indexing p.2 • Editorial Board p.2 • Guide for Authors p.4 ISSN: 1359-6454 DESCRIPTION . Acta Materialia provides a forum for publishing full-length, original papers and commissioned overviews that advance the in-depth understanding of the relationship between the processing, the structure and the properties of inorganic materials. Papers that have a high impact potential and/ or substantially advance the field are sought. The structure encompasses atomic and molecular arrangements, chemical and electronic structures, and microstructure. Emphasis is on either the mechanical or functional behavior of inorganic solids at all length scales down to nanostructures. The following aspects of the science and engineering of inorganic materials are of particular interest: (i) Cutting-edge experiments and theory as they relate to the understanding of the properties, (ii) Elucidation of the mechanisms involved in the synthesis and processing of materials specifically as they relate to the understanding of the properties, and (iii) Characterization of the structure and chemistry of materials specifically as it relates to the understanding of the properties. Acta Materialia welcomes papers that employ theory and/or simulation (or numerical methods) that substantially advance our understanding of the structure and properties of inorganic materials. Such papers should demonstrate relevance to the materials community by, for example, making a comparison with experimental results (in the literature or in the present study), making testable microstructural or property predictions or elucidating an important phenomenon. Papers that focus primarily on model parameter studies, development of methodology or those employing existing software packages to obtain standard or incremental results are discouraged.

Page 1/30 Abstract Ambio is a leading journal in environmental science and policy, sustainable development and human- environment interactions. The paper at hand aims to run a bibliometric analysis to inspect the main publications features of Ambio in Science Citation Index Expanded SCI-EXPANDED. For this scope, a bibliometric survey has been carried out to investigate the journal’s historic characteristics in the Web of Science (WoS) categories of environmental sciences and environmental engineering for Ambio from 1980 to 2019. These are the categories for which the journal has been indexed throughout the indexed time frame. The paper proposes technical and methodological innovations, including improvements in the methods and original characteristics analyzed. Documents published in Ambio were searched out from SCI-EXPANDED. Six publication indicators were applied to evaluate the publication performance of countries, institutes and authors.

Society of Vertebrate Paleontology 7918 Jones Branch Drive, Suite 300 McLean, VA 22102 USA Phone: (301) 634-7024 Email: [email protected] Web: www.vertpaleo.org FEIN: 06-0906643 April 21, 2020 Subject: Fossils from conflict zones and reproducibility of fossil-based scientific data Dear Editors, We are writing you today to promote the awareness of a couple of troubling matters in our scientific discipline, paleontology, because we value your professional academic publication as an important ‘gatekeeper’ to set high ethical standards in our scientific field. We represent the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP: http://vertpaleo.org/), a non-profit international scientific organization with over 2,000 researchers, educators, students, and enthusiasts, to advance the science of vertebrate palaeontology and to support and encourage the discovery, preservation, and protection of vertebrate fossils, fossil sites, and their geological and paleontological contexts. The first troubling matter concerns situations surrounding fossils in and from conflict zones. One particularly alarming example is with the so-called ‘Burmese amber’ that contains exquisitely well-preserved fossils trapped in 100-million-year-old (Cretaceous) tree sap from Myanmar. They include insects and plants, as well as various vertebrates such as lizards, snakes, birds, and dinosaurs, which have provided a wealth of biological information about the ‘dinosaur-era’ terrestrial ecosystem. Yet, the scientific value of these specimens comes at a cost (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/11/science/amber-myanmar-paleontologists.html). Where Burmese amber is mined in hazardous conditions, smuggled out of the country, and sold as gemstones, the most disheartening issue is that the recent surge of exciting scientific discoveries, particularly involving vertebrate fossils, has in part fueled the commercial trading of amber.

Goudie School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford Key Messages There are increasing signs of potential integration within Geography. A range of areas for collaboration exists between Human and Physical Geographers. Geography is not irredeemably divided. Although there are still gulfs between Human and Physical Geographers, in the last three decades interest has burgeoned in a whole series of closely and inextricably related areas which lie at the interface between humans and their environment. These include inter alia seven closely interweaved themes: (1) the study of hazards and disasters and of resilience and vulnerability; (2) global changes and their causes, mitigation, and adaption; (3) Earth System Science; (4) human impacts; (5) the Anthropocene; (6) environmental history and environmental influences on human history and prehistory, including migration and settlement abandonment; and (7) the study and appreciation of landscape. These areas can act as foci for a more unified and valuable Geography.

  • The Relationship Between Appetite and Food Preferences in British and Australian Children Alison Fildes1,2,3, Kimberley M
Fildes et al. International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (2015) 12:116 DOI 10.1186/s12966-015-0275-4 RESEARCH Open Access The relationship between appetite and food preferences in British and Australian children Alison Fildes1,2,3, Kimberley M. Mallan2,4, Lucy Cooke1, Cornelia HM van Jaarsveld1,3, Clare H. Llewellyn1, Abigail Fisher1 and Lynne Daniels2* Abstract Background: Appetitive traits and food preferences are key determinants of children’s eating patterns but it is unclear how these behaviours relate to one another. This study explores relationships between appetitive traits and preferences for fruits and vegetables, and energy dense, nutrient poor (noncore) foods in two distinct samples of Australian and British preschool children. Methods: This study reports secondary analyses of data from families participating in the British GEMINI cohort study (n = 1044) and the control arm of the Australian NOURISH RCT (n = 167). Food preferences were assessed by parent-completed questionnaire when children were aged 3–4 years and grouped into three categories; vegetables, fruits and noncore foods. Appetitive traits; enjoyment of food, food responsiveness, satiety responsiveness, slowness in eating, and food fussiness were measured using the Children’s Eating Behaviour Questionnaire when children were 16 months (GEMINI) or 3–4 years (NOURISH). Relationships between appetitive traits and food preferences were explored using adjusted linear regression analyses that controlled for demographic and anthropometric covariates. Results: Vegetable liking was positively associated with enjoyment of food (GEMINI; β = 0.20 ± 0.03, p < 0.001, NOURISH; β = 0.43 ± 0.07, p < 0.001) and negatively related to satiety responsiveness (GEMINI; β = -0.19 ± 0.03, p < 0.001, NOURISH; β = -0.34 ± 0.08, p < 0.001), slowness in eating (GEMINI; β = -0.10 ± 0.03, p=0.002, NOURISH; β = -0.30 ± 0.08, p < 0.001) and food fussiness (GEMINI; β = −0.30 ± 0.03, p < 0.001, NOURISH; β = -0.60 ± 0.06, p < 0.001).
