HUGH4 HINTON, SR. (JESSIE3, AARON2, JAMES1) was born January 20, 1810 in Johnston County, North Carolina, and died January 18, 1882 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. He married (1) EFFIE MCCLOUD Bef. 1836. She died Abt. 1844 in Jackson (Now Lincoln Parish) Louisiana. He married (2) WINNIFORD HUEY February 06, 1845 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, daughter of JAMES HUEY and PRISCILLA FRANKLIN. She was born April 13, 1820 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, and died July 20, 1887 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. Notes for HUGH HINTON, SR.: HUGH HINTON (son of Jesse Hinton and Sarah Brauner/Brawner) was born January 20, 1810 in Johnston County, North Carolina, and died January 18, 1882 in Lincoln Parish, La. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Hugh moved to Perry County Mississippi with his family in 1812. There he met and married his 1st wife: Effie McCloud born ca. (?); died ca. 1844 in Jackson Parish, 4 Louisiana. Effie had also moved to Mississippi with her parents as a young girl. Before 1836 Hugh and Effie had moved to Woodville, Louisiana which was then in Jackson Parish. One can only guess as to why Hugh and Effie made this move from a place that had been their home for so many years. Perhaps Hugh was urged on by the spirit of exploration and by the desire for homesteading on a prosperous looking site. The land around Woodville furnished an acreage which was well wooded with virgin timber, was very fertile, and was supplied with streams and springs. Hugh had a keen eye for land, and was a thrifty and hard- working man. At the time of his death in 1882 he had increased his holdings to over 1,000 acres. Hugh and Effie had five (5) children, all born in Louisiana except Budd, who was born in Mississippi. It is believed that Hugh and his family had gone back to Perry County, Mississippi for the settlement of his father - Jesse Hinton's estate, during which visit Budd was born. Hugh was listed on the tax list of Perry County for the years 1833, 1835 and 1841. When Effie died there were no cemeteries anywhere near, so Hugh buried her across the road from their home near Woodville and covered the grave with bricks. Today the grave would be located across the road from the Joe Simpson estate. (No other marker was ever placed on her grave). After the death of Effie, Hugh realized his five (5) children needed a mother - so on February 6, 1845 in Ouachita Parish he married Miss Winniford "Winnie" Huey born April 13, 1820 in Ouachita Parish, La. died July 20, 1887 in Lincoln Parish, La. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Ruston. She was the daughter of James Huey, Jr. and Priscilla Franklin whose home was located near Old Trenton (West Monroe today).
