Because our “Two Vendors” sale is of material that we routinely feature it seemed sensible to hold it on the same day as our general auction. This General Auction #126 will commence at our usual time of 1.00pm. We expect #127 to get under way at 5.00pm and it will not begin any earlier. Please note that this sale begins with Lot 1, while #127 begins at Lot 2001. At Prestige Philately, we’re always looking for ways to make our 2417 Cabrillo Drive operations more relevant and user-friendly. A good example is our Hayward CA 84545 Special Interests Register. Last year we started including illustrations in Cell Ph: +11 (1)510 415 6158 the personalised catalogue extracts that are sent to hundreds of clients Home Ph: +11 (1)510 785 4794 every sale. Those clients can now choose to receive that same Email: information, much faster and in colour, by e-mail. [email protected] Page: 4 Prestige Philately - Auction No 126 Mar 10, 2007 That’s just one of the many client benefits that flow from registering your e-mail address with us. We also provide automatic advices when we receive your bids and again if your bids are exceeded. You receive a reminder notice a couple of days before each sale, and your results immediately after the auction closes. The cost to you? Nothing! Along with free catalogues, it’s part of our total benefits package for all clients. But if you don’t have an e-mail address or haven’t given it to us, then we can’t provide you with our best level of service. 4. Pardon me for pushing the technology barrow a bit more. In the past year or so we have had a series of catalogue delivery problems both in Australia and overseas. It’s very frustrating for us and we have twice changed carriers in an effort to obtain the best service possible. But it’s more frustrating when a client says “The catalogue arrived after the sale and I’m really annoyed because I would have bid on such-and-such.” Every one of our auctions is loaded onto our website even before the hard-copy catalogues have been printed. We send out a broadcast e-mail to advise that this has been done. The on-line catalogue actually includes more information (such as reserve levels and many more illustrations) than we can include in the printed version. Now we even offer you a “virtual catalogue” that is the next best thing to viewing the printed catalogue. Individual pages, even the entire catalogue, can be printed by you for no cost. So, even if our physical delivery system fails you, you need never again miss that elusive item for which you would have given your right arm. 5. Many clients won’t be aware that before Christmas we ran a small on-line literature auction using our subsidiary website www.philatelybooks.com. We sent out the usual broadcast e-mail, accepted bids for just a few days, and achieved a very pleasing result for buyers and sellers alike. Yes, we will be doing it again but probably only once or twice a year. And, yes, you will need to be on-line to participate. I hope this message is reaching the people who have been stoically resisting buying a computer etc. Yes, Dad, I’m talking to you too. If you are a modern-day Luddite, your reluctance to plug into the worldwide web will cause you to miss out on more and more opportunities. Remember when your fax machine, answering machine and mobile phone were all “new- fangled gadgets”? Be the next of a regular stream of clients to send us an e-mail announcing “This is FANTASTIC! I don’t know how I ever did without my PC!” We’ll all just smile knowingly. 6. By the time you receive this catalogue I will be on my way to New York. My first time ever in the “Big Apple”, and I must confess I’m rather excited about it. Of course, I’m going for the auction of Arthur Gray’s phenomenal collection of Kangaroos. However, I’ll also be catching up with a few clients and making my first (obviously) visit to the Collectors Club, of which I have been a member for a few years, on the evening of 21st February. If you’re at either event, please make yourself known to me. I’ll be very pleased to meet you. Mar 10, 2007 Prestige Philately - Auction No 126 Page: 5 UnderstandinJ our Symbols & Unique GradinJ System At Prestige Philately we utilise much the same symbols as other firms, but with some additional categories that you should be aware of. We are the only major firm in the world that actually grades the quality of the material we offer. While some clients have struggled with the whole concept of grading, most have clearly embraced the idea and we receive much favourable comment about the system. It is important that you understand our Grading System because the symbols used form part of the lot description. We are confident that once you are comfortable with our gradings, you will always be satisfied with the quality of the material you purchase from us. And, in the event that we have missed a tear or a thin and consequently overgraded an item, we WANT you to return it. We stand behind the Prestige Grading System. 1. Firstly, we have the lot number. If it is in bold and bright red, the item is illustrated. (The actual location of the illustration is given at the end of the description: e.g. {Page 41.37} is position 37 on page 41.) 2. The second column contains a symbol, which represents the item(s) in the lot: ** Mint, unmounted o.g. * Mint, mounted o.g.
